Abstract:Two new 9,10-seco-cycloartanes, named sphaerophyside SC (1) and sphaerophyside SD (2), together with four known compounds (3-6), were obtained from the ethanol extract of the seeds of Sphaerophysa salsula. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral and chemical evidences. Compounds 3-6 were isolated from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were further determined by ROESY and an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with literature.

Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:Two new lignans, named zuihonins E (1) and F (2), were isolated from the stems of Schisandra bicolor Cheng var. tuberculata Law. The structures of the new lignans were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR, and MS experiments, and their absolute stereochemistry was determined by circular dichroism spectrum. Compounds 1 and 2 did not inhibit the growth of hepatoma carcinoma cell (HepG2), lung carcinoma cell (A549), and human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cell lines.

Abstract:The efficient and concise synthesis of (-)-orthodiffenes A and C has been accomplished for the first time in eight steps from readily available chiral synthons, D-mannose and D-ethyl lactate. Our work confirmed the complete structure of orthodiffenes A and C, including their absolute stereochemistry. The key steps of our total synthesis involved cis-fused tetrahydrofuran cyclization, one-pot deprotection-lactonization, and intramolecular benzoyl migration according to a biosynthetic hypothesis of orthodiffenes.

Abstract:Two new dihydrochalcone glycosides named 6''-O-acetyltrilobatin (1) and 3''-O-acetylphloridzin (2) as well as four known compounds were isolated from the leaves of Lithocarpus litseifolius (Hance) Chun (family Fagaceae). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. The phenomena of C-H --> C-D exchange were observed in NMR spectra of the isolated phenolic components when measured in deuterated methanol.

Abstract:A sesquiterpene lactone was isolated from Nouelia insignis Franch,and its structure was elucidated(compound 1)by 2D NMR to be 8β,9-dihydro-onoseriolide.Complete assignment of the 1H and 13C chemical shifts for the compound was obtained.The assignments of H1 and H-2 of the compound previously reported were found incorrect,and the correct assignments were given.The results of this study may have some practical significance for the structural elucidation of onoseriolide sesquiterpene lactones.

Abstract:A novel brominated cuparene-derived sesquiterpene ether, 8,10-dibromo-3,7-epoxy-laur-13-ol (1), was isolated from Laurencia sp. collected in South China Sea. Besides this, two known sesquiterpenes, (9β)-aristol-1(10)-en-9-ol (2) and aristolone (3), were also yielded, and aristolone (3) was obtained from Laurencia for the first time.
