Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:Further investigation of the stems of Schisandra bicolor led to the isolation of a new dibenzylbutane lignan, named schibicolignan A (1), as well as five known compounds, namely bis[dibenzylbutane] (2), machilin A (3), macelignan (4), saururenin (5) and sphenanlignan (6). Abstract:Chemical investigation into the stems of the medicinal plantSchisandra sphaerandraled to the isolation and identification of a new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan sphaerandrin A (1) and 11 known ones gomisin B (2), schirubrisin B (3), kadsuphilin B (4), schizandrin (5), benzoylgomisin Q (6), angeloylgomisin Q (7), gomisin G (8), schisanwilsonin O (9), isogomisin O (10), schisantherin D (11), and wuweizisu C (12). The structure of the new compound was elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic methods including 1 D/2D NMR, HRESIMS, and CD spectrometry. To the best of our knowledge, compounds2 - 11were obtained from this species for the first time. All the compounds were evaluated for the cytotoxic activity against the triple-negative breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and HCC-1937.

Abstract:Six new lignans (1-6), as well as five known ones (7-11) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. The structures of 1-6 were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods including 1D-and 2D-NMR techniques and CD experiments. Compound 1 was the first example of naturally occurring N-containing lignans featuring a nicotinoyl group. All the new compounds were evaluated for their anti-HIV-1 activities and showed EC50 values in the range 17.89-138.23 mu g/mL.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were further determined by ROESY and an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with literature.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Abstract:AIM: To study the chemical constituents of the seeds of Schisandra sphenanthera. METHOD: The chemical constituents of Schisandra sphenanthera were isolated with chromatographic techniques, and their chemical structures were elucidated by spectral analysis. RESULT and CONCLUSION: Sphenanlignan(1), a new 2,3-dimethyl-1,4-diarylbutane lignan was isolated with 6 known lignans (+)-anwulignan(2), schisantherin A(3), deoxyschizandrin(4), tigloylgomisin O(5), 6-O-benzoylgomisin O(6) and schisandrone(7). 6-O-benzoylgomisin O(6) was obtained from Schisandra sphenanthera for the first time.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of an ethanolic extract of stems of Schisandra neglecta led to the isolation and identification of two new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, designated neglschisandrins E (1) and F (2), and thirteen known lignans. All structures and stereochemistries were determined by spectroscopic methods, including 2D-NMR techniques. The isolates were evaluated for in vitro cytotoxic activity. Among them, compounds 2–6 exhibited moderate to weak cytotoxicity against the human colorectal carcinoma HCT-8 cell line with EC50 values of 7.33~19.8 μg/mL. In addition, compounds 2–4 also exhibited marginal cytotoxicity against the human lung carcinoma A549 cell line with EC50 values of 11.8~15.0 μg/mL.

Abstract:Schisandra chinensis (Schisandraceae) is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Under the name Wu Wei Zi, it is used to treat many diseases, especially as a stimulant, adaptogen, and hepatoprotective. Dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans are the main compounds responsible for the effect of S. chinensis. As a part of ongoing studies to identify and evaluate anti-inflammatory natural compounds, we isolated a series of dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans and evaluated their biological activity. Furthermore, we isolated new sesquiterpene 7,7-dimethyl-11-methylidenespiro[5.5]undec-2-ene-3-carboxylic acid. Selected dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans were tested to assess their anti-inflammatory potential in LPS-stimulated monocytes by monitoring their anti-NF-κB activity, antioxidant activity in CAA assay, and their effect on gap junction intercellular communication in WB-ras cells. Some S. chinensis lignans showed antioxidant activity in CAA mode and affected the gap junction intercellular communication. The anti-inflammatory activity was proven for (−)-gomisin N, (+)-γ-schisandrin, rubrisandrin A, and (−)-gomisin J.
