Abstract:Two new C(18) dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans named heteroclitalignans A and B (1 and 3), one new C(19) homolignan named heteroclitalignan C(4) and one new natural product named heteroclitalignan D(2), together with the four known lignans kadsurarin (5), kadsulignan E (6), d-epigalbacin, and meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid were isolated from the stems of Kadsura heteroclita. Abstract:AIM: To study the dibenzocylooctadiene lignans from the stems of Kadsura heteroclita.METHOD: Chromatographic separations of silica gel and semi-preparative HPLC were used. All of the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis,including 2D-NMR and HR-MS techniques.RESULTS: Four dibenzocylooctadiene lignans were isolated from K heteroclita. Their structures were identified as heteroclitin R (1), heteroclitin S (2), gonisin O (3), and schisanlignone A (4).CONCLUSION: Heteroclitin R (1) and heteroclitin S (2) are new natural lignans.

Abstract:Two new lignans, named as 6-hydroxyhinokinin and 6-hydroxyhinokinin-6- O-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with five known compounds: elemol, oplodiol, catechin, β-sitosterol and daucosterol were isolated from Kadsura heteroclita. The structures of these compounds were characterized by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectral experiments, chemical analysis and comparison with literature data. The absolute structures of the novel lignans were elucidated as 8 S, 8′ S, based on their optical rotations.

Abstract:Fourteen new rearranged 6/6/5/6-fused triterpenoid acids, namely, kadcoccine acids A-N (1-14), were isolated from an EtOAc-soluble extract of the stems of Kadsura coccinea. Their structures were characterized mainly by analyzing 1D and 2D NMR and HRESIMS data and were shown to feature a rare 14(13 -> 12)-abeo-lanostane skeleton. Compounds 7 and 8 represented the first examples of a 5-substituted 2(5H)-furanone motif on the C-17 side chain of this skeleton. The absolute configurations of C-23 for compounds 1, 7, and 8 were determined by comparison of their experimental electronic circular dichroism spectra. All the isolates were screened for their in vitro cytotoxicity against six human tumor cell lines (HL-60, SMMC-7721, A-549, MCF-7, SW-480, and HeLa), and compounds 2 and 8 exhibited weak inhibitory effects with IC50 values ranging from 3.11 to 7.77 mu M.

Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Kadsufolins A-D (1-4, resp.), four new dibenzocyclooctane-type lignans, were isolated from the roots and stems of Kadsura oblongifolia, together with eleven known lignans. Their structures and configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR techniques. The compounds were also evaluated for cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines A549 (lung carcinoma), DU145 (prostate carcinoma), KB (epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx), and HCT-8 (ileocecal carcinoma). Kadsufolin A (1), kadsufolin D (4), angeloylbinankadsurin A, and heteroclitin B were found to show cytotoxic activities against A549, DU145, KB and HCT-8 with GI(50) values of 5.1 - 20.0 mu g/ml.

Abstract:Eleven triterpene acids including 10 new compounds (kadcoccinic acids A-J, 1-10) were isolated from the stems of Kadsura coccinea. Except for 10, these compounds feature a rearranged lanostane skeleton with a 6/6/5/6 tetracyclic ring system, and compounds 1 and 2 are the first examples of 2,3-seco-6/6/5/6-fused tetracyclic triterpenoids. Their structures were established primarily by spectroscopic and spectrometric methods. Additionally, the absolute configuration of 3 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Several of the compounds isolated were tested for their anti-HIV-1 and cytotoxic activities.

Abstract:The title compound, kadsuranin or 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,2,3,13-tetramethoxy- 6,7-dimethylbenzo[3,4]cycloocta[1,2-f][1,3]-benzodioxole, C23H28O6, is a dibenzocyclooctadiene-type lignan which was isolated from a Chinese medicine, Schisandra chinensis ( the fruit of Schisandra chinensis Baill.). The molecule contains two six-membered aromatic rings, one five-membered ring, and an eight-membered ring with a twisted-boat-chair conformation.
