Abstract:Three unique nortriterpenoids, schilancitrilactones A-C (1-3), were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia . Compound 1 possesses a 5/5/7/5/5/5-fused hexacyclic ring system with a C(29) backbone, while 2 and 3 feature a C(27) skeleton with a 5/7/5/5/5-fused pentacyclic ring system. Their absolute stereochemistries were established by CD and single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. Compound 3 showed anti-HIV-1 activity with an EC(50) value of 27.54 μg/mL, and 1 exhibited antifeedant activity at 15.73 μg/cm(2).

Abstract:A new class of highly oxygenated Schisandra nortriterpenoids, lancolides A-D(1-4), from Schisandra lancifolia, represents the first example of natural products that possess a tricyclo[6.3.0.0(2.11)]undecane-bridged system. Their structures were elucidated by NMR spectra, X-ray diffraction, and quantum chemical calculations. Lancolides A (1) and D (4) had specific antiplatelet aggregation induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF).

Abstract:Four new highly oxygenated nortriterpenoids, lancifodilactones O-R (1-4), together with six known ones, i.e., 5-10, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses, including 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments and mass spectrometry. Compounds 1-3 were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against NB4, A549, SHSY5Y, PC-3, and MCF-7 cell lines. No compounds exhibited significant cytotoxicity, the I(C5)0 values being above 50 mu M.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Abstract:Twelve new nortriterpenoids, namely wuweizidilactones J-P (1-7), schindilactones I-K (8-10), preschisanartanin N (11), and schisdilactone J (12), as well as 23 known analogues, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. The absolute configurations of 1 and 11 were established by calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra and that of 7 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The absolute configurations of 2-6, 8, and 9 were determined by an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with that of 1. It is the first time that the ECD spectra of 18(13 -> 14)-abeoschiartane-, 18-norschiartane-, and schisanartane-type nortriterpenoids possessing an alpha,beta-unsaturated-gamma-lactone moiety are presented, this method providing an alternative means of obtaining absolute configurational assignments for these types of nortriterpenoids. All isolates were evaluated for their anti-acetylcholinesterase and anti-butyrylcholinesterase activities, and compounds 8, 13, 23, and 31 show anti-acetylcholinesterase activity at concentrations of 50 mu M, with 12.7, 10.7, 16.6, and 32.1% inhibition, respectively. Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:Ten schinortriterpenoids with biogenetically related lancischiartane scaffolds, including the first 3-norlancischiartane (1) with unusual configuration inversions occurring at C-1 and C-10, were isolated from Schisandra lancifolia. Unusual ECD curve patterns observed in 6–8 were confirmed to be caused by nondegenerate exciton coupling, suggesting that ECD spectrum empirical comparison should be used with caution in configuration determination. Additionally, structure revision of 2, originally proposed as arisanlactone A, was completed using NMR computation and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:Two new triterpenoids, schisphendilactone A and B ( 1 and 2 ), together with three known triterpenoids, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera . Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and the absolute configuration of 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 2 showed moderate inhibitory activity against SW480 cancer cell line, and compound 5 exhibited promising anti-HIV-1 activity with EC 50 value of 0.52 μg ml −1 and therapeutic index value of 117.12.

Abstract:<p>Schipropins A–J, a series of undescribed lanostane and cycloartane-type triterpenoids, were isolated from the stems and leaves of <em>Schisandra propinqua</em>. Their structures, most of which were characterized by C-3/C-4 cleavage, were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses. Noteworthily, the absolute configurations of schipropins A, D–G, and I were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, schipropins E and G were found to possess moderate NO production inhibitory activity.</p>

Compound 1 was the first example of naturally occurring N-containing lignans featuring a nicotinoyl group. Abstract:Ten new triterpenoids, schiglausins A-J (1-10), as well as four known compounds, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra glaucescens. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods, including extensive NMR spectra and CD experiment. Compound 8 was determined to be a norlanostane triterpenoid. The crystal structure of compound 1 has been determined using single-crystal X-ray analysis while its absolute configuration was assigned on the basis of the CD spectrum. All isolates were tested for their FXR agonistic and antagonistic effects.
