Abstract:A novel gold-catalyzed tandem cycloisomerization/hydrogenation of chiral homopropargyl sulfonamides has been developed. Various enantioenriched pyrrolidines can be obtained in excellent yields and excellent enantioselectivities by combination of chiral tert-butylsulfinimine chemistry with gold catalysis. Importantly, this represents the first example of a pyrrolidine synthesis from homopropargyl sulfonamide.

Abstract:A highly enantioselective oxidative cyclopropanation of 1,6-enynes catalyzed by cationic Au(I)/chiral phophoramidite complexes is presented. The new method provides convenient access to densely functionalized bicyclo[3.1.0]hexanes bearing three contiguous quaternary and tertiary stereogenic centers with high enantioselectivity (up to e.r. 98:2). Control experiments suggest that the quinoline moiety of the β-gold vinyloxyquinolinium intermediate in the reaction plays an important role in promoting good enantioselectivity through a transitional auxiliary effect in the transition state.

Abstract:A gold-catalyzed tandem cycloisomerization/oxidation of homopropargyl amides has been developed, which provides ready access to synthetically useful chiral γ-lactams with excellent ee by combining the chiral tert-butylsulfinimine chemistry and gold catalysis. The utility of this methodology has also been demonstrated in the synthesis of biologically active compound S-MPP and natural product (−)-bgugaine. The use of readily available starting materials, a simple procedure, and mild reaction conditions are other significant features of this method.

Abstract:Starting with vinyl sulfoxides and propargyl silane, the Au(I)-catalyzed asymmetric [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of sulfonium intermediate furnished, after protodemetallation step and hydrolysis of thionium ion, the corresponding 4-oxo-2-aryl-2-alkyl-pentanal derivatives. From the fine analysis of crude mixtures representative of this transformation, formal α-arylated products of acetone (1-arylpropan-2-one derivatives) and aryl sulfanes were also isolated and characterized, depending on the substrates and reaction conditions used. Therefore, a tentative mechanistic explanation of the formation of these unexpected products was highlighted and DFT calculations have also streamlined the reactivity of these cationic gold(I)-catalyzed transformations.

Abstract:Chiral rings made easy: Chiral azetidin-3-ones have been easily prepared from chiral N-propargylsulfonamides, which in turn are readily accessible through chiral sulfinamide chemistry (see scheme). Using tert-butylsulfonyl as the protecting group avoids unnecessary deprotection and reprotection steps, and allows its removal from the azetidine ring under acidic conditions. Abstract:A novel dual gold/photoredox-catalyzed bis-arylative cyclization of chiral homopropargyl sulfonamides with diazonium salts has been developed, allowing the facile synthesis of various enantioenriched 2,3-dihydropyrroles in generally moderate to good yields with excellent enantioselectivities under very mild conditions without using any strong oxidants. The reaction is proposed to undergo an Au-I/Au-III redox cycle promoted by visible-light photoredox catalysis.
