Abstract:An efficient process based on the gold-catalyzed redox reaction has been developed to oxidize 1,2-diarylacetylene or ynamide to 1,2-diaryldiketone or α-keto imide respectively. This process can tolerate a variety of functional groups and affords 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:Herein, we report the first intramolecular C-N bond formation of phenylpropanamide derivatives via organocatalytic oxidative reactions, affording 3,3-disubstituted oxindole derivatives with up to 99% yield. The high efficiency of this reaction is exemplified by the transition metal-free mild conditions and the ability to perform the reaction on a gram scale. Meanwhile, the DFT calculation of the catalytic oxidative transformation pathway has also been studied.

Abstract:A general catalytic protocol for the Pd‐catalyzed intramolecular arylations of N‐(2‐halogenoaryl) amides in eco‐friendly medium was successfully developed by using rationally designed acenaphthoimidazolylidene‐ligated chiral oxazoline palladacycles. Under the optimal reaction condition, a broad scope of substrates with various functional groups were well tolerated, leading to desired 3,3'‐disubstituted oxindoles in excellent yields (up to 98% yield).

Abstract:We report a switchable synthesis of acylindoles and quinoline derivatives via gold‐catalyzed annulations of anthranils and ynamides. With an N,O‐ligand on a gold(III) catalyst α‐imino gold carbenes, in situ generated from anthranils, could undergo electrophilic attack to the aryl π‐bond followed by unexpected and highly selective 1,4‐ or 1,3‐acyl migrations to form 6‐acylindoles or 5‐acylindoles. With the JohnPhos ligand gold(I) carbenes experienced carbene/carbonyl additions to deliver quinoline oxides. Some of these epoxides represent valuable substrates for the preparation of 3‐hydroxylquinolines, quinolin‐3(4H)‐ones and polycyclic compounds via facile in situ rearrangements. The reaction can be efficiently conducted on gram scale and the obtained products are valuable substrates for preparing other potential useful compounds. A computational study explained the unexpected selectivities and the dependency of the reaction pathway on the oxidation state and ligand of gold. With gold(III) the barrier for the formation of the strained oxirane ring is too high, with gold(I) this transition state becomes accessible. Also, the barriers for the migrations of the substituents on the intermediate sigma‐complexes perfectly explain the observed substitution pattern in the final product.

Abstract:An oxidative alkylarylation of N‐aryl bicyclobutyl amides with C(sp3)–H feedstocks has been disclosed, allowing for rapid diversity‐oriented synthesis of functionalized 3‐spirocyclic oxindoles via a cascade C(sp3)–H/C(sp2)–H functionalization and cyclization process. Comprehensive Summary The difunctionalization of bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes is an under‐explored transformation that accesses to moieties that are otherwise difficult to prepare. Herein, a new oxidative radical alkylarylation of N‐aryl bicyclobutyl amides with C(sp3)−H feedstocks is achieved in an atom‐economic and photocatalyst‐ and light‐free manner. This protocol follows a sequential C(sp3)–H/C(sp2)–H functionalization, providing an efficient route for diversity‐oriented synthesis of functionalized 3‐spirocyclobutyl oxindoles. In particular, a wide range of C(sp3)−H feedstocks, including ether, alcohol, amine, thioether, polychlorinated methane, silane, acetone, acetonitrile, toluene, and alkane are all suitable for the C(sp3)−H functionalization, demonstrating the broad applicability of this transformation.

Abstract:The rhodium-catalyzed diastereo- and enantioselective Michael addition of arylboronic acids to 3-alkylenyloxindoles has been developed with (R)-binap as a ligand. A wide variety of the desired functionalized oxindoles are smoothly obtained in high yields (up to 99%) with high enantioselectivities (up to 92% ee) and good diastereoselectivities (up to 82:18).

Abstract:2-Alkynylanilines are attractive starting materials in indole synthesis because of their ready availability. Herein, a one-pot stepwise procedure is reported for efficient construction of multisubstituted oxocino[4,3,2-cd]indoles from 2-alkynylanilines and 2-alkynylbenzaldoximes. The method comprises the oxidative dearomatization of 2-alkynylanilines, the silver-catalyzed [3+3] cycloaddition with 2-alkynylbenzaldoximes, and subsequent thermal radical skeletal rearrangement and aromatization.

Abstract:Unsymmetrical 3-arylidene-2-oxindoles are useful pharmacophores for many clinical drugs or intermediates in alkaloids synthesis. An Iridium(III)-catalyzed sequential C-H oxidative reaction of 2-indolyl enamides has been established. This protocol utilized alpha, alpha-dimethyl benzylhydroperoxide as the oxidant and silver fluoride as a key promoter, to provide a wide range of (Z)-3-arylidene-2-oxindole imides in moderate to good yields, together with good regio- and stereoselectivity. The silver fluoride was found to function as a base to facilitate the generation of the active Iridium catalyst species. The resulting (Z)-3-arylidene-2-oxindole imides could be further transformed to various valuable derivatives. Mechanistically, radical-process was excluded from this C-H oxidative transformation, and a 6-membered cationic iridacycle intermediate was proposed to be involved in the catalytic cycle.
