Abstract:Copper-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction has been realized under biphasic conditions (water / organic substrates) allowing decreasing the copper loading up to 0.02-0.2 mol %. A potential intermediate species of the reaction, corresponding to a copper cluster linked with acetylide moiety, has been identified.

Abstract:A tandem process of micellar catalysis and cloud point extraction (CPE) is developed for copper-catalyzed Ullmann C-S coupling reactions in water. The functional nonionic surfactant, amine terminated polyether M2070, affords nano-micelle environment in the aqueous system; the latter splits to two phases above the cloud point temperature (CPT). The nature of the micellar catalysis in M2070 aqueous was investigated by DLS, EDS, XPS, IR, TEM and 1H NMR. M2070 was verified to provide nano-space for encapsulation and aggregation of the substrates. More importantly, the metallic micelle formed by M2070 chelating copper was identified. It is noteworthy that excellent productivity in pre-micellar catalysis of C-S coupling reactions was obtained with good tolerance of substrate. Finally, the water-micelle system was separated into two phases above the CPT thus to achieve the product separation. Furthermore, the M2070/water system can be recycled and reused.

Abstract:Sonogashira coupling is one of the cornerstone Palladium mediated cross coupling reactions, giving a direct and high yield access to symmetric and non‐symmetric alkynes with high tolerance of substituents. The method generally requires the use of CuI as a cocatalyst, an inert atmosphere to protect palladium catalyst, somewhat harsh conditions like prolonged heating and the use of organic solvents due to the hydrophobicity of reagents and products. Leveraging on the opportunities offered by micellar catalysis, we here present a general methodology to perform Sonogashira coupling in water, with moderate or no heating, under air, without copper co‐catalysts and at very low catalyst loading. The method offers the same generality and scope of organic solvents based couplings, but strongly improves sustainability while offering excellent yields.

Abstract:The exploration of inexpensive and stable heterogeneous catalysts and application of green solvents for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction remain challenging. We present a facile fabrication of copper nanoparticles on hydrochar as prepared from natural, inexpensive and renewable chitosan together with in-situ reduction of copper salt in a one-pot hydrothermal carbonization process. The copper nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on hydrochar by choosing block copolymer F127 as surfactant. Moreover, maleic acid was introduced to improve the hydrophilicity of hydrochar. The most active copper nanocomposite catalyst, that is, Cu/HCS-MA-F127, exhibited excellent catalytic activity for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction in water. The nature of the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM and XPS. Moderate to excellent yields of aimed products were gained by using this catalytic strategy. Moreover, the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 catalyst can be reused by simple centrifugal recovery with a stable performance.

Abstract:Three different types of functionalized-CS were prepared and anchored with copper salts for use as the catalyst for the Ullmann C-X coupling reaction. The Schiff-basic chitosan supported copper complex (PCCS@CuI) exhibits the highest catalytic activity. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM, EDS and XPS. This catalyst exhibited high applicability for the C-N and C-S coupling reactions, in which good to excellent yields were obtained. Its easy separation, good reusability and stability were notable.

Abstract:A green,efficient,and recyclable catalytic protocol for Ullmann C—N reaction in water was developed.The catalyst Chi-Gly@CuI was prepared by the cross-linking reaction of chitosan bead with glyoxal and subsequently anchored with copper salt.Chi-Gly@CuI bead of 0.3 mm in mean diameter possesses porous micro-structure demonstrated by scanning electron microscope (SEM).The structure of Chi-Gly@CuI was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis (TG),X-ray diffraction (XRD),inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).This catalytic protocol for Ullmann reaction in water exhibited high applicability,from which the corresponding coupling products were afforded in good to excellent yields.Chi-Gly@CuI could be easily separated from products by simple filtration almost without weight loss.Most notably,after 10 times of recycling,its catalytic activity and chemical stability were still maintained.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed method has been developed for Sonogashira couplings of aryl halides with terminal alkynes in water. The protocol uses inexpensive CuBr as the catalyst, 1,10-phenanthroline as the ligand, tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as the phase-transfer catalyst, environmentally friendly water as the solvent, and various internal alkynes were synthesized in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:The catalyst-free Suzuki-type coupling reaction of sodium tetraphenylborate with iodanes was achieved in good yields in water at room temperature. Similarly, the coupling of sodium tetraphenylborate with iodonium salts easily occurred in acidic water medium at 50 degrees C in good yields. Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed copper-free Sonogashira reaction in water and acetone has been developed under mild conditions. The results showed that the aryl iodides could carry out the cross-coupling reaction with a variety of terminal alkynes in high yields in water-acetone in the absence of amine, copper(l) salts, or phosphine ligands at 60 degrees C for one hour, and good yields were obtained for aryl bromides at 60 degrees C for 12-24 hours in the presence of triphenylphosphine and piperidine. The method could be used to synthesize polyethynyl aromatic compounds in a one-pot reaction.
