Abstract:Sonogashira coupling is one of the cornerstone Palladium mediated cross coupling reactions, giving a direct and high yield access to symmetric and non‐symmetric alkynes with high tolerance of substituents. The method generally requires the use of CuI as a cocatalyst, an inert atmosphere to protect palladium catalyst, somewhat harsh conditions like prolonged heating and the use of organic solvents due to the hydrophobicity of reagents and products. Leveraging on the opportunities offered by micellar catalysis, we here present a general methodology to perform Sonogashira coupling in water, with moderate or no heating, under air, without copper co‐catalysts and at very low catalyst loading. The method offers the same generality and scope of organic solvents based couplings, but strongly improves sustainability while offering excellent yields.

Abstract:Three different types of functionalized-CS were prepared and anchored with copper salts for use as the catalyst for the Ullmann C-X coupling reaction. The Schiff-basic chitosan supported copper complex (PCCS@CuI) exhibits the highest catalytic activity. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM, EDS and XPS. This catalyst exhibited high applicability for the C-N and C-S coupling reactions, in which good to excellent yields were obtained. Its easy separation, good reusability and stability were notable.

Abstract:The exploration of inexpensive and stable heterogeneous catalysts and application of green solvents for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction remain challenging. We present a facile fabrication of copper nanoparticles on hydrochar as prepared from natural, inexpensive and renewable chitosan together with in-situ reduction of copper salt in a one-pot hydrothermal carbonization process. The copper nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on hydrochar by choosing block copolymer F127 as surfactant. Moreover, maleic acid was introduced to improve the hydrophilicity of hydrochar. The most active copper nanocomposite catalyst, that is, Cu/HCS-MA-F127, exhibited excellent catalytic activity for Ullmann C-N coupling reaction in water. The nature of the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM and XPS. Moderate to excellent yields of aimed products were gained by using this catalytic strategy. Moreover, the Cu/HCS-MA-F127 catalyst can be reused by simple centrifugal recovery with a stable performance.

Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed copper-free Sonogashira reaction in water and acetone has been developed under mild conditions. The results showed that the aryl iodides could carry out the cross-coupling reaction with a variety of terminal alkynes in high yields in water-acetone in the absence of amine, copper(l) salts, or phosphine ligands at 60 degrees C for one hour, and good yields were obtained for aryl bromides at 60 degrees C for 12-24 hours in the presence of triphenylphosphine and piperidine. The method could be used to synthesize polyethynyl aromatic compounds in a one-pot reaction.

Abstract:Palladium nanoparticles supported on MOF-5 (Pd/MOF-5), have been prepared by a chemical method at room temperature. MOF-5 and Pd/MOF-5 were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 sorption, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The catalyst consists of highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles (about 3–6nm) on MOF-5 with a high surface area (533m2/g). It exhibits efficient catalytic activity for the Sonogashira coupling reaction between aryl iodides and terminal acetylenes without the assistance of ligand and copper.

Abstract:Robust acenaphthoimidazolylidene palladium complexes have been demonstrated as highly efficient and general catalysts for Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions in excellent yields even at 0.01 mol% catalyst loadings in combination with 1 mol% IPr-Cu under mild reaction conditions. The outcomes highlight that, along with the steric bulky aspects, sigma-donor properties of the NHC ligands are also crucial to accelerate the transformations.

Abstract:A rapid copper- and ligand-free Sonogashira reaction was performed in an oil-in-water microemulsion. Palladium nanoparticles can be in situ formed in the microemulsion without other reductants. The microemulsion containing in situ-formed nano-Pd is an efficient system for the Sonogashira reaction. The reactions were faster in the microemulsion than in micelles. The effects of surfactant, alcohol, and temperature are discussed. Excellent yield of the Sonogashira reaction catalyzed by 0.5 mol% palladium could be achieved at 80 degrees C within 2 min. (c) 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this work, the preparation of titania-supported Pd catalyst deriving from pincer-type orthopalladated azo-complex is presented. The new highly dispersed Pd catalyst was prepared through a pH-controlled adsorption method and fully characterized by FT-IR, XRD, TGA, FE-SEM, TEM and N 2 adsorption/desorption techniques. The Pd/TiO 2 nano-catalyst was then applied as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for copper-free Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions of a representative range of aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides with phenylacetylene with the very low catalyst Pd-loading. The coupling products were obtained in high yields in environmentally friendly reaction media. The catalyst was successfully recycled over six runs, with no significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling is among the most important C-C bond-forming reactions available due to its reliability, chemoselectivity, and diversity. Aryl halides and pseudohalides such as iodides, bromides, and triflates are traditionally used as the electrophilic coupling partner. The expansion of the reaction scope to nontraditional electrophiles is an ongoing challenge to enable an even greater number of useful products to be made from simple starting materials. Herein, we present how an NHC-based Pd catalyst can enable Suzuki-Miyaura coupling where the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters takes on the role of electrophile, allowing the synthesis of various ketone-containing products. This contrasts known reactions of similar esters that provide biaryls via nickel catalysis. The underlying cause of this mechanistic divergence is investigated by DFT calculations, and the robustness of esters compared to more electrophilic acylative coupling partners is analyzed.

Abstract:Ligand-free palladium acetate and palladium chloride have been evaluated as catalysts in the Suzuki cross-coupling of aryl boronic acid with aryl and vinyl bromide in ethanol at room temperature and with exposure to air. The substrates with a wide variety of functional groups, including base-sensitive ones are tolerated.
