Abstract:A simple, air-stable, inexpensive and easily prepared molecule, N-methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA), is reported as a ligand for palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of phenylboronic acid with aryl chlorides. The yield of the corresponding Suzuki coupling reaction is up to around 90% at both high temperature of 80 degrees C and room temperature under ambient atmosphere. Abstract:Heterogeneous Pd single-atom catalysts (Pd SACs) have demonstrated high efficiency in C-C coupling reactions, which are considered the cornerstones of organic synthesis. However, the development of 2D materials for the evaluation of the catalytic efficiency of mixed-valence Pd SACs remains a significant challenge. In this study, we prepared various mixed-valence Pd SACs via photodeposition. The electronic structure and dispersion state of the surface Pd species were confirmed. The important role of graphene oxide in the design of atomically dispersed Pd species was further confirmed through comparative experiments with Pd/TiO2. The mixed-valence Pd SACs exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the typical palladium-catalyzed Suzuki and Sonogashira C-C coupling. Theoretical calculations and EXAFS spectra were used to determine the mechanism for tailoring the Pd0/Pd2+ atomic ratios. These studies initiate a broad portfolio of mixed-valence metal-based single-atom catalysts (SACs).

Abstract:The development of catalytic systems that can activate aryl chlorides for palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions is at the forefront of ongoing efforts to synthesize fine chemicals. In this study, a facile ligand-template approach is adopted to achieve active-site encapsulation by forming supramolecular assemblies; this bestowed the pristine inert counterparts with reactivity, which is further increased upon the construction of a porous framework. Experimental results indicated that the isolation of ligands by the surrounding template units is key to the formation of catalytically active monoligated palladium complexes. Additionally, the construction of porous frameworks using the resulting supramolecular assemblies prevented the decomposition of the Pd complexes into nanoparticles, which drastically increased the catalyst lifetime. These findings, along with the simplicity and generality of the synthesis scheme, suggest that the strategy can be leveraged to achieve unique reactivity and potentially enable fine-chemical synthesis.

Abstract:The palladium catalyst supported on fluoride pillared layered double hydroxide(LDH-F) was prepared by the incipient wetness method,and it was used to catalyze the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions of aryl bromides.The structure of the Pd/LDH-F catalyst and the leaching of Pd in the solution were characterized by(X-ray) diffraction and inductively coupled plasma.With a small palladium dosage(Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.001) and no ligand,Pd/LDH-F exhibits higher catalytic activity and selectivity than the catalysts supported on other carriers for the Heck reaction of aryl bromides with styrene.The Pd/LDH-F catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused four times without loss in activity.Under the conditions of Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.005,room temperature and 3 h,the Pd/LDH-F catalyst can catalyze the Suzuki reaction of bromobenzene with a product yield of 99%.

Abstract:Suzuki cross-coupling reactions activated by palladium (Pd) catalysts are efficient routes for the synthesis of useful organics. Traditional homogeneous ligand Pd catalysts face tedious separation process and are sensitive to the reaction environments. Here, we report an ultrasmall Pd cluster over the nitrogen-doped carbon materials. The strong electronic interaction between Pd and nitrogen not only suppresses the agglomeration of Pd metals during annealing process but also donates electrons to the Pd centers. The high atom utilization efficiency and electron-rich properties enable the Pd clusters display a high turnover frequency of 198 h−1 for the Suzuki cross-coupling reactions under a mild condition, which is nearly 18-fold higher than the carbon black supported Pd nanocrystals (10.5 h−1). More important, no decay of the activity was observed after five recycle runs.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Electron-rich and hindered aryl chlorides are the most challenging substrates in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling (SMC) reactions. Herein, we report a highly efficient catalytic system for the SMC reaction using trace amounts of commercially available catalysts [Pd(PPh3)4/(t-Bu)PCy2; Pd loading as low as 9.5 × 10-5 mol%]. This catalytic system can efficiently couple deactivated and sterically hindered aryl chlorides with various substituted phenylboronic acids, even in one-pot multiple coupling reactions (yield of products up to 92%). The impact of solvents on SMC reactions and the mechanisms of by-product formation in aryl boronic acid couplings are analyzed using density functional theory (DFT). Utilizing trace amounts of commercially available catalysts avoids complex synthesis, reduces costs, and minimizes metal residues.

Abstract:A copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride was modified via reaction with 4-amino-5-methyl-4 H -1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol, and palladium(II) chloride was then immobilized on the modified copolymer. The resulting nanocatalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray (EDAX) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyses, and FT-IR, 1 H NMR, and 13 C NMR spectroscopic data. The catalytic efficiency of the new palladium nanoparticles was successfully examined in the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of various aryl halides with phenylboronic acid in water. The advantages of this strategy were easy recovery and efficient reusability of the expensive PdNPs, high yields of the cross-coupling products, short reaction times, and the use of water as a solvent for a wide range of substrates.
