Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:We control the number of critical points of a height function arising from the Nash isometric embedding of a compact Riemanniann-manifoldM. The Ln/2 curvature norm ∥R∥ and a similar scalar ∥R∥ are introduced and their integralR(M) andR(M) overM. We prove thatR(M) is bounded below by a constant depending only onn and the Betti numbers ofM. Thus a new sphere theorem is proved by eliminating allith Betti numbers fori = 1, .…n −1. The emphasis is that our sphere theorem imposes no restriction on the range of curvature.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the unit sphere $S^{n+p}$. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. We obtain a classification theorem of M if it satisfies $S+\lambda _2\le \alpha (n,H)$, where $\lambda _{2}$ is the second largest eigenvalue of the fundamental matrix and $\alpha (n,H)$ is defined as in Theorem B.

Abstract:We investigate the property of boundary rigidity for the projective structures associated to torsion-free affine connections on connected analytic manifolds with boundary. We show that these structures are generically boundary rigid, meaning that any automorphism of a generic projective structure that restricts to the identity on the boundary must itself be the identity. However, and in contrast with what happens for example for conformal structures, we show that there exist projective structures which are not boundary rigid. We characterise these non-rigid structures by the vanishing of a certain local projective invariant of the boundary.

Abstract:Making use of 1-forms and geometric inequalities we prove the rigidity property of complete submanifolds Mn with parallel mean curvature normal in a complete and simply connected Riemannian (n+p)-manifold Nn+p with positive sectional curvature. For given integers n, p and for a nonnegative constant H we find a positive number tau(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) with the property that if the sectional curvature of N is pinched in [tau(n, p), 1], and if the squared norm of the second fundamental form is in a certain interval, then Nn+p is isometric to the standard unit (n+p)-sphere. As a consequence, such an M is congruent to one of the five models as seen in our Main Theorem.

Abstract:Let (N, g) be an n-dimensional complete Riemannian manifold with nonempty boundary partial derivative N. Assume that the Ricci curvature of (N, g) has a negative lower bound Ric >= -(n-1)c(2) for some c> 0, and the mean curvature of the boundary partial derivative N satisfies H = -(n-1) c(0) > (n-1)c for some c(0) > c > 0. Then a known result (cf. [12]) says that sup(x is an element of N) d(x, partial derivative N) <= 1/c coth(-1) c(0)/c. In this paper, we prove the rigidity result that if N is compact, then the equality holds if and only if (N, g) is isometric to the geodesic ball of radius 1/c coth(-1) c(0)/c in an n-dimensional hyperbolic space H-n(-c(2)) of constant sectional curvature -c(2). Moreover, we prove an analogous result for manifold with m-Bakry- Emery Ricci curvature bounded below by a negative constant.

Abstract:Let be a smooth compact connected oriented surface with non-empty boundary. A Riemannian metric on is said to be of Anosov type if it has strictly convex boundary, no conjugate points, and a hyperbolic trapped set. We prove that two Riemannian metrics of Anosov type with the same marked boundary distance are isometric (via a boundary-preserving isometry isotopic to the identity). As a corollary, we retrieve the boundary distance rigidity result for simple disks of Pestov and Uhlmann (Ann Math (2) 161(2):1093–1110, 2005). The proof rests on a new transfer principle showing that, in any dimension, the marked length spectrum rigidity conjecture implies the marked boundary distance rigidity conjecture under the existence of a suitable isometric embedding into a closed Anosov Riemannian manifold. Such an isometric embedding result for open Riemannian surfaces of Anosov type was proved by the first author with Chen and Gogolev (Journal de l'École polytechnique-Math. Tome 10:945–987, 2023) while the marked length spectrum rigidity for closed Anosov Riemannian surfaces was established by the second author with Guillarmou and Paternain (Marked length spectrum rigidity for Anosov surfaces. arXiv e-prints, arXiv:2303.12007, 2023).

Abstract:Let M n ( n ≥ 4) be an oriented closed submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an ( n + p )-dimensional locally symmetric Riemannian manifold N n+p . We prove that if the sectional curvature of N is positively pinched in [ δ , 1], and the Ricci curvature of M satisfies a pinching condition, then M is either a totally umbilical submanifold, or δ = 1, and N is of constant curvature. This result generalizes the geometric rigidity theorem due to Xu and Gu [15].

Abstract:I prove a scalar curvature rigidity theorem for spheres. In particular, I prove that geodesic balls of radii strictly less than $\frac{\pi}{2}$ in $n+1~(n\geq 2)$ dimensional unit sphere are rigid under smooth perturbations that increase scalar curvature preserving the intrinsic and extrinsic geometry of the boundary, and such rigidity result fails for the hemisphere. The proof of this assertion requires the notion of a real Killing connection and solution of the boundary value problem associated with its Dirac operator. The result serves as the sharpest refinement of the now-disproven Min-Oo conjecture.

Conformally invariant rigidity theorems on four-manifolds with boundary

Abstract:In the article we introduce new conformal and smooth invariants on compact, oriented four-manifolds with boundary. In the first part, we show that "positivity" conditions on these invariants will impose topological restrictions on underlying manifolds with boundary, which generalizes the results on closed four-manifolds by M. Gursky and on conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds by S.-Y. A. Chang, J. Qing, and P. Yang. In the second part, we study Weyl functional on four-manifolds with boundary and establish several conformally invariant rigidity theorems. As applications, we prove some rigidity theorems for conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds. These results generalize the work on closed four-manifolds by S.-Y. A. Chang, J. Qing, and P. Yang and rigidity theorem for conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds by G. Li, J. Qing, and Y. Shi. A crucial idea of the proofs is to understand the expansion of a smooth Riemannian metric near the boundary. It is noteworthy to point out that we rule out some examples arising from the study of closed manifolds in the setting of manifolds with umbilic boundary.

Abstract:Let $(\Omega^{n+1},g)$ be an $(n + 1)$-dimensional smooth compact connected Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary $\partial\Omega=\Sigma$ and $f$ a smooth function on $\Omega$ which satisfies the Obata type equation $\nabla^2 f -fg =0$ with Robin boundary condition $f_{\nu} = cf$, where $c=\coth{\theta}>1$. In this paper, we consider the rigidity of $\Omega$. First, we derive the warped product structure of $\Omega$ by the properties of the Obata type equation and the set $\Omega_0=\{x\in \Omega ~|~ f(x)=0\}$. Second, we determine the specific structure of $\Omega_0$ under appropriate curvature assumptions and provide the structure of $\Omega$ accordingly.
