Abstract:Based on advanced Microprocessors MPC8260 and real-time operating system VxWorks, a high-performance embedded computing control platfonn is proposed to meet the increased requirements of complexity and real time in intelligent control systems. DSP array and FPGA is also designed for high-speed parallel signal processing. This platfonn can be used in communication, intelligent robot, military aircrafts, radar and medical imaging instruments etc.

Abstract:To meet embedded multimedia applications, a media-enhanced and reconfigurable RISC microprocessor is designed. Media-enhanced extension, pipeline controlling strategy, bypassing unit and exception handling are studied. By parameterized and module design, the microprocessor can be configured easily. The RISC core is simulated in Xilinx X2CV3000 FPGA successfully and an MPEG-4 AAC decoder based on the microprocessor has been implemented. The result shows that the core can be conveniently integrated into SoC.

Abstract:Aiming at issues of the modern embedded turbine supervisory instruments such as simplistic function, weak process power, low efficiency and so on, the technique of double CPUs with the cores of Intel PXA270 and Cyclone II EP2C20 microprocessors is employed in the present design. With embedded linux operating system and the developing platform of Qt software implemented, important functions such as data acquisition, data transfer based on TCP/IP protocols, display of data waveform, local storage of data, data analysis, elementary fault diagnosis and so forth can be achieved all together in a single facility. After tested on the Rotor Kit 4 of Bently Nevada and applied on 300MW turbine of the Power System Dynamic Simulation Laboratory in North China Electric Power University, the newly designed embedded turbine supervisory instruments show that the technique of double CPUs is effective, and the portable system can overcome the deficiencies of the modern embedded turbine supervisory instruments as mentioned above.

Abstract:By analyzing the application demand of the medical electronics,an MCU architecture named PKU-DSPII with application specific instruction set is proposed.Multilevel storage structures with direct memory access controller(DMAC) and abundant system control modules and peripheral interfaces are integrated in the MCU,which supports three booting modes including self-updating mode.PKU-DSPII is implemented with CSMC 0.18 μm technology and LQFP package while the die area is 3.2 mm×3.2 mm and the measured power consumption is 96.9 mW at working frequency of 100 MHz.

Abstract:This paper describes a complete method in detail to design a FPGA-based CPU by using Hardware Description Language. This type of CPU can be easily extended to meet different circumstances and requests, with lower cost of production. This paper can be divided into two parts: The first provides the internal structure ,the analysis of instructions operating, the connection with Memory unit and the VHDL code describing each working unit; The second studies how to develop the CPU to gain more functions, more bits and more memory capacity with a new memory model. The paper also broaches a real case about how to coordinate the CPU with necessary circuit to implement the timing control of an automatic washing machine.

Abstract:A RISC microprocessor is developed by using modular design method and VHDL language based on FPGA and EDA technology.The microprocessor mainly consists of controller,operator and registers,and have the basic functions of instruction control,operation control,time control and data process.Its instruction length is 16 bits.Immediately addressed and directly addressed are adopted.Its clock frequency reaches 23.02MHz and its function is satisfied.

Abstract:The design and implementation of CPU soft-core is necessary for SoC design since the soft-core can be tailored to fit actual applications. A 32-bit RISC integral microprocessor soft-core that is fully embedded in FPGA is described, including the design of hardware structure, instruction set and a simple assembler. According to the architecture of the aimed FPGA, the design of pipeline structure and critical path delay balancing are optimized. Some debugging techniques used are also discussed at the end of the paper. On Xilinx Virtex1000FG680-4, the designed microprocessor running clock is 30MHz with 150 instructions. The core occupies 7% FPGA logic resource.

Abstract:A design of a 32-bit microprocessor core PKURS002 for embedded system is presented in this paper. It consumes much less power yet remains the high performance, compared with its prior PKURS001. The core employs low power design techniques at the controller, data path and internal memorial cells. The controller employs distributed logic instead of centralized one to reduce the signal transition by enlarging the self-loop. A new algorithm LSA (Logarithmic Skip Adder) has been provided to implement ALU and bit-split technique is applied to the structure of register file. The core is described by HDL and verified on 0.35 μm CMOS process. Result shows it reduce 30% power consumption compared with its predecessor at the same performance.

Abstract:Algorithm specifications drive the computation capability requirements of processor in wearable and portable medical devices. This paper presents an embedded dual-core processor, named dual-core processor unification (IMS-DPU), in which two PKU-DSP II RISC cores are embedded for increased computation complexity and enhanced functionality as well as a snoop control unit (SCU) to maintain cache coherency and an on-chip debug (OCD) unit to support in-circuit debug. The instruction set is specifically extended for medical electronics applications, and abundant inter-core communication mechanisms are provided. The redesigned control path reduces the area and power consumption. FPGA prototyping results show the correctness of the design, and it is synthesized by CSMC 180nm CMOS technology process with a clock frequency of 100 MHz and 999.5K equivalent logic gates, including 42KB memory.

Abstract:A 32bit embedded RISC microprocessor designed for low-power, low-cost and highspeed is described. The chip implements the ARM V4 instruction set. Based on ARM7TDMI framework, this microprocessor takes the advantage of Harvard architecture and implements a 5stage pipeline. It also utilizes the improved pipeline hazard control and exception handle circuit for the fluent flow of pipeline. Compared with commercial ARM7TDMI implemented on 0.35μm CMOS process, the chip can achieve the same speed on 0.6μm CMOS process, while the CPI decreases 26%,MIPS increases 36%. The whole design has been tested successfully under Aptix System Explorer MP3CF hardware verification platform and taped out on CSMC 0.6μm CMOS process.

Abstract:The development of high performance embedded CPU requires co-development of the hardware, the development kits and the operating system. This paper describes a design scheme for an embedded Linux system that provides co-design of all three parts and verification in a virtual hardware environment before the physical hardware is available. Based on open source softwore the scheme uses a simplified Linux kernel with an embedded root file system including uClibc, Busybox and some benchmark programs from SPEC2000. This system has been successfully applied to the hardware/software co-development of Tsinghua University's MicroProcessor (THUMP). The system improves the verification efficiency and optimizes the performance of the embedded CPU. Test results show that the system can correctly and efficiently perform co-verification on the cycle-accurate simulator, meeting the strict design constraints of simulatnion development enviroment and successful running of the target CPU.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and simulation method for developing a RISC-based 32-bit embedded on-board computer. Instead of the conventional bread-boarded prototype:(1) we used the Cadence EDA environment and Logic Modeling hardware simulator to verify the conceptual design (2) An Aptix FPCB was used to implement the first-version hardware system. (3) a simple but effective self-made ICE (In- circuit Emulator) was used to perform target system verification while software was running on IDT 79S381 Evaluation Board. The whole hardware system was first simulated conceptually under EDA environment, and then was simulated with the basic software codes. This method is effective in an embedded system design.

Abstract:PKURS001, compatible with ARM7TDMI's instructions and interface, is created in HLD (High Level Design) and verified in the class library of SYNOPSYS to reach more than 60 MHz. In this paper, we discuss some methods adopted in architecture design and data path design of PKURS001 to shorten its critical path and achieve such a high frequency. We push fetch on source operands, originally in the Instruction Execution stage, back to the Instruction Decoding stage. By this means, the critical path delay is decreased significantly with a balancing combinatorial path between the two stages. ALU is optimized to be more regular, to occupy less area and to reduce power consumption by sharing the same p and g function for both the arithmetic operation and the logical one. On the other hand, a leading zero anticipation algorithm, suitable for floating-point arithmetic, is changed and used in PKURS001's Zero flag generation. This further decreases the critical path delay by making the flag generation and add or sub operation in parallel with little extra area cost

Abstract:Facing the rise of new applications such as RFID, wearable devices and Internet of things, low-throughput but power energy sensitive IC design has drawn widespread attention. To achieve low power consumption, near-threshold digital circuit design is more and more popular. This paper designed a high-density near-threshold digital cell library based on SMIC 0. 13um1P6M mixed-signal technology. Based on this library, it designed and implemented a 8051 microprocessor with a typical top-down methodology. Tape-out result shows that this microprocessor can work with alowest voltage supply of 0. 2V, and its frequency covers a band from 1k to 25MHz. Compared with a same processor made using typical cell library, it can save about 36% power when working at 20MHz.
