Abstract:According to the principle of the uniform magnetization and harmonic analytic method, the fields of the ring structure system with multi-segmented and trapezoidal magnet are analysed. The 3-dimensional expression of the field at any point of the space is given, and the 2-dimensional expression of the fundamental component of multipole, harmonic and leakage field is also given.The comparisons between the property of segmental and trapezoidal magnet are discussed.

Abstract:The 2-dimension fields for the constant direction magnetized quasi-segment-ed, trapezoidal and plane head quasi-segmented multipiece ring system are analysedusing harmonic analytical method as the principle of uniform magnetization. Someprecise analytical expression are given. As an example, magnetic field gradient of 16-pieces quasi-segmented, trapezoidal quadrupole is calculated and compared with a 16-pieces plane head segmented quadrupole.

Abstract:This paper addresses the electromagnetic relationship and the electromagnetic model, which includes voltage equations, flux linkage equations, and electro-magnetic torque expressions, of the two-pole permanent magnetic spherical motor. The model shows that the electro-magnetic coupling relationship inside the two-pole PM spherical motor is simple and that the torque of the motor is easy to control. The paper also analyzes the magnetic field of the motor by 3D FEM method. The result confirms the sine distribution of the field and the modeling method.

Abstract:─ In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, the main magnet creates a static magnetic field, which largely determines the final imaging quality. Pole pieces of pure-iron are commonly used to improve the field homogeneity in the imaging region. In this work, we attempt to design a novel configuration of multi-ring pole pieces for a small animal MRI system. Based on the model of a small H-type permanent magnet, the magnetic field is calculated using the finite element method, which considers the nonlinearity of the ferromagnetic materials. The pole piece was designed with the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The results show that, the optimal multi-ring pole pieces can effectively reduce the uniformity about 10-20 ppm (10), with a better performance compared with the flat and traditional onering pole piece configuration. Abstract:This paper develops an analytical model for predicting the magnetic field, back-electromotive force (EMF), and electromagnetic torque of surface-mounted permanent magnet machines accounting for magnet geometrical shaping and varied magnet property distribution. The magnets on the rotor are represented by the remanence, thickness, and magnetization direction functions. They are finitely segmented into magnet pieces of simple regular shape and uniform magnet property. The magnetic field of the machine is obtained by the superposition of the magnetic field due to each segment. The back-EMF and electromagnetic torque are also calculated. Using the developed model, the technique of mixed magnet material is investigated on a four-pole/six-slot machine. The analytical predictions are verified by both finite element and experimental results.

Abstract:Permanent-magnet vernier machine (PMVM) is a relatively new type of PM machines. An analytical subdomain model accounting for tooth-tips and flux modulation poles is developed to accurately predict on-load field distributions in PMVMs. Based on two-dimensional (2-D) polar coordinate and magnetic vector potential, this method solves the Maxwell's equations in slot, air-gap, flux modulation pole slot (FMPS), and PM regions. Consequently, the electromagnetic performance such as cogging torque, back-electromotive force (EMF), electromagnetic torque, power factor, and magnet loss are calculated. In addition, the model can also be used for the evaluation of demagnetization withstand capability. The finite-element analysis (FEA) and experimental results validate the accuracy of the developed analytical model.

Abstract:An analytical method is presented, which used magnet angle and magnetizing angle of partition-between-poles Halbach magnet as analytical parameters, then the magnetic field distribution in the airgap region based on these two angles is developed. The influence of magnet thickness, magnet angle, charging angle on the magnetic field distribution in the airgap region is systematically analyzed. A partition-between-poles Halbach magnet, which providing better performance of the magnetic field distribution than the traditional Halbach magnet is presented. In order to require both relative maximum of fundamental amplitude and relative minimum of total harmonic distortion of air-gap flux density, the optimized design project of the magnet is proposed for different pole-pair number. The correctness of the analytical model is verified through FEA, and the superiority of the optimized partition-between-poles Halbach magnet is also verified further through FEA.

Abstract:We present an analytical model of unbalanced magnetic force (UMF) in fractional-slot surface-mounted permanent magnet (PM) machines having diametrically asymmetrical winding distribution but no static/dynamic rotor eccentricities. It is based on a 2-D analytical field model and accounts for the influence of both the radial and tangential force waves under any load condition. It is capable of providing insight into the generation, harmonic contents, and characteristics of the UMF and accurately predicting the magnitudes, rotation directions, phase angles of its harmonics and various components, such as the UMFs due to armature reaction only, mutual interaction between both PM and armature reaction fields, and radial and tangential force waves. The cancellation and additive effects between the UMF components resulting from the radial and tangential force waves are revealed for the first time by the analytical model. We show that such effects strongly depend on the UMF harmonic order, slot/pole number combinations, and the internal/external rotor machine topologies. We have validated the analytical model by finite-element analyses and partially by experimental results.

Abstract:An analytical solution is obtained for a rotating multiferroic composite hollow cylinder made of radially polarized piezoelectric and piezomagnetic materials. Both the number of layers and the stacking sequence of the composite cylinder can be arbitrary. General mechanical, electric and magnetic boundary conditions can be applied at both the inner and outer cylindrical surfaces. The state space method is employed so that only a 2×2 matrix is involved in the whole solving procedure. In the numerical experiments, the distributions of elastic, electric as well as magnetic fields in an internally pressurized rotating BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 composite hollow cylinder subjected to different boundary conditions are presented graphically. The results clearly show that the stress fields in a multiferroic composite cylinder are controllable.

Abstract:An analytical method for predicting the airgap magnetic field distribution, armature winding flux density distribution and back EMF is presented, which consider the effect of slots by complex relative airgap permeance; an analytical model of PMSM’s cogging torque is also predicted using Maxwell stress method calculated along slots’ edge, and all the analytical models above consider the effects of partition-between-poles(PBP), The validity and the correctness of the analytical model are verified through FEA and experiments. On the basis of the analysis of analytical model, an PBP Halbach magnet, which providers better performance of the magnetic field distribution than the traditional Halbach magnet is presented, and then the superiority of the optimized PBP Halbach magnet is also verified further through FEA and experiments.

Abstract:In this paper,the magnetic field distribution of the modulating width multipole perma-nent magnets is analyzed.Only radially magnetized permanent magnet segments are used andthe required magnetic field is formed by modulating the widths of the segments in this project.In 2-dimensional ideal case pure 2N-pole magnetic field can be formed.The spatial expres-sions of the scalar potential for the ideal and real 2-dimensional cases are given.And the me-thods for reducing the undesirable higher harmonics of the magnetic field in the real case arealso discussed.

Abstract:The ferromagnetic pole pieces of permanent magnet assembly for magnetic resonance imaging is optimally designed taking account of the pulse excited gradient coil field. In the design, the transient design sensitivity analysis is combined with the three-dimensional finite element method to give a search direction. Abstract:This paper proposes the field separation theory for predicting the magnetic field of a quasi-Halbach array permanentmagnet motor considering the magnetization pattern and iron saturation.According to the proposed method, the air-gap field consists of a permanent-magnet field, winding current field, and equivalent saturation field.The equivalent permanent-magnet currents replacing the Halbach array with radial or parallel magnetization are introduced to obtain the linear analytical airgap field of the permanent magnets.The winding current field relating to the slot shape and air-gap length can be directly determined using the linear analytical model.The equivalent saturation field is derived from the combination of the linear analytical model in the air gap and the magnetic circuit model in the iron region.The finite-element analysis of an 8-pole/9-slot Halbach array permanent-magnet motor and its prototype experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the field separation theory, which is then used to analyze the harmonic magnetic field of Halbach array permanent-magnet motors to further improve the electromagnetic torque estimation.

Abstract:2 Dimensional magnetic field expression of permanent magnet undulator with magnetization is derived. Conditions for minimizing high order harmonics are given. Three different types of permanent magnet undulator——the gradually varied type, mixed type and simple type——are compared. Upon these comparisions we conclude that gradually varied type is superior to mixed type except for △h/λ(?)0.1.

Abstract:This paper presents an analytical method for predicting the performance of magnetic bearing (MB). The approach based on magnetomotive force (MMF) and the permeance function is employed to compute the air-gap flux density distribution. The stator slotting effect and rotor eccentricity are taken into account to determine the permeance function. The analytical results are compared with finite-element method (FEM) to verify the accuracy of this analytical method.

Abstract:The magnetic field distributions of modulating thickness permanent magnets [1,2] are discussed in this paper. The field distributions are calculated by using the program POISCR and the actual demagnetization curve of the REC permanent magnet material. The results show that the performance of the MT type magnets is about the same as or even better than that of the modulating magnetization direction type (MMD) [3] and that the MT type magnet with soft iron shield requires less REC material than MMD type magnets.
