Characteristics and Limitations of GUO Song Tao's Views on Western Culture

Abstract:It is with Chinese traditional culture as the reference culture that GUO Song tao was understanding western culture . Because of his overall understanding of Chinese and western culture, he could break the culture selection-and-rejection formula which was called Zhong Ti Xi Yong when he was comparing and selecting between Chinese and western culture. Meanwhile, the background of early modern exchange between Chinese and western culture also limited his views on western culture, which led to a series of contradictions and reflected obvious times limitation.
