Abstract:In order to meet the requirements of qualified Chinese-English(C-E)translators,we need to put more emphasis on C-E translation in the translation curriculum.In the process of C-E translation teaching,an effective translation textbook will be of great necessity and help.Based on an analysis of most C-E translation textbooks ever published in mainland China,this paper attempts to put forward some ideas of how to compile a new type of C-E translation textbook to serve the needs of the newly-established translation specialty:(1)follow a set of basic princi- ples of compiling C-E translation textbooks,with undergraduates' proficiency of English and Chinese taken into con- sideration;(2)design topics on some knotty C-E translation problems by applying the latest C-E translation research results,especially those in the fields of contrastive linguistics and contrastive stylistics,to textbook compiling in the way of contrast and comparison,with emphasis on how to overcome the culture-bound barriers;(3)take translation practice as a high priority and integrate translation principles and methods into every chapter by describing and decon- structing the whole translation process so as to guide learners to identify problems and summarize translation rules by themselves;(4)promote learners' initiative in translating when they are presented with translated texts for reference, with a view to leading them to change their way of thinking and apply adaptation skills flexibly in the process of translating.
