Abstract:Translation of practical materials involves many styles and subjects.To do a good translation,translators should firstunderstand the original meaning and avoid ambiguity of translation,then make sure that the translated names of the real objects(especially products)conform to the real names,and third correctly deal with the translation of technical terms.

Abstract:Whereas translation scholars have succeeded in reaching agreements on many fundamental issues in their field,whether these consensuses are all relevant to and applicable in real-life situations of translation practices deserves a careful examination.A reality check reveals that many of the seemingly-solved problems or the seemingly-unified thoughts have not been generally recognized or implemented in the actual practices of translating.A case in point is the discrepancy between theorists' shared understanding of the tripartite criterion of" faithfulness,"" expressiveness" and" elegance" and its popular application in the assessment of translation in many practical fields.Taking notice of the gap,this paper seeks to rethink the criterion in question from a perspective that combines theoretical insights and practical imperatives and is sufficiently informed with the tension between the two.

Abstract:At present, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution in the world are presenting a historic intersection, and the pace of industrial structure upgrading and revolution is accelerating. Both the world and China need to cultivate more and better skilled and practical talents, especially those with practical English translation skills. Practical English, as the name implies, focuses on practicality, mainly refers to the English applicable in the workplace environment or in business activities. Ecological translation theory emphasizes that translators should transition to the ecological environment of the source language background, then adapt to the elements in their environment and convert the information into a language that can be connected to the target environment.

Abstract:Due to economic globalization,China's exchange with foreign countries in various fields,such as politics,economics,science and cultures,becoming more and more frequent,producing new requirements for the cultivation of qualified translators and interpreters.Therefore,it is necessary to clarify two basic problems in translators and interpreters' education:(1)the respective status of and relationship between Undergraduate Translation Major(UTM)and Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI);(2)the relationship between the training of translation skills and the cultivation of theoretical attainment in these programs.The paper starts by fixing the objective of cultivating qualified translators and interpreters,and proposes the specific requirements for the buildup of theoretical attainment in their training programs.Then after discussing the compilation of theoretical textbooks in Translation Studies with a view to nurturing theoretical attainment in qualified translators and interpreters,it sets forth relevant principles for compiling such textbooks;that is,they should be conducive to the establishment of appropriate views on translation and its history characterized by qualified translators and interpreters,and be conducive to their understanding of the science of translation and their mastery of translation skills.

Abstract:Translation studies conducted since China’s reform and opening up has played a pivotal role in the establishment of translation as a discipline in this country.Whether in introducing insightful theoretical perspectives on the translational practice,laying a conceptual foundation for the discipline,promoting translation-related pedagogy, enriching the teaching of foreign languages,fostering a historical understanding of the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,or enhancing China’s soft power,remarkable achievements have been made by Chinese translation scholars.Having gained its disciplinary status and succeeded in refuting popularly held misassumptions such as"translation is not amenable to theory"or"theories of translation are useless,"however,how translation studies should further develop itself in China poses a formidable challenge to its practitioners.This paper takes up the challenge by reflecting on some of the burning issues of the moment,including those over the exclusive adoption of the cultural approach to the study of translation,the dearth of translation-specific theoretical sources,and the subordination of translation to some better established disciplines.

Abstract:The translation of Chinese medical books is characterized by language, cultural connotation and cognitive domain background, which makes the translators encounter different levels of difficulty in the process of translation and form different translations accordingly. This paper takes the construal theory in cognitive linguistics as a guide, analyzes the important role of four kinds of means of construal in the process of translating Chinese medical books, and analyzes the different English translations of JGL under the construal theory, analyzes that different translations reflect different cognitive mechanisms of the translators, and comes to the conclusion that the translations should maximally reflect the cognitive points of reference of the authors at that time, so as to maximize the translations. It is also concluded that the translation should maximally reflect the author's cognitive reference point so as to maximize the closeness of the translation to the original text, aiming to provide theoretical guidance and reference for the English translation of Chinese medical books.

Abstract:The scientific and technical text is characterized by its extensive use of technical terminology, abbreviations, nominalized structures, passive voice, and intricate sentence structures, all of which contribute to its objective, precise, well-structured, and logically sound nature. Its primary aim is to convey knowledge and information accurately, making content precision and logical coherence the core for translating scientific and technical texts. This paper delves into the translation of The Romance of Reality, a scientific and technical book that explores the origins of life and the development of the universe through the presentation of various scientific and technical theories. The translator explores the applicability of translation shift theory, proposed by Catford in 1965, to the translation of this scientific narrative text (chapter one), specifically focusing on the two major types of shifts: level shifts and category shifts, including structural shifts, class shifts, and unit shifts.

Abstract:Abstract Non-literary translation involves every area of social life, including politics, economics, law, scientific technology, culture. Abstract:With the rapid development of Chinese society and economy and the increasingly significant trend of globalization, people’s demand for legal text translation is becoming more and more urgent. It not only exists in various foreign trade contracts, but also exists in the mutual reference of Chinese and foreign legal systems. In the process of development. The translation of legal texts plays a pivotal role in the cultural exchanges between China and the West. At the same time, society also puts forward higher requirements for the quality of legal text translation. However, the differences between English and Chinese language culture and legal culture bring great difficulties to the translation of legal texts. Skopos Theory believes that the entire translation process of legal texts should be closely focused on the purpose of translation, paying attention to the intended text function and intended reader status of the translation, and choosing the appropriate translation method when the translation purpose and intended function of the translation are clear. Abstract:Translation is a cultural exchange, not just a linguistic transformation. Foreign translation of vernacular literature works is also an important way to promote the Chinese folk culture. However,the cultural omission hinders foreign readers from gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese vernacular culture.Therefore, this thesis selects the English translation of Turbulence as the object of study, aiming to explore the translation strategies of vernacular language such as the names of people, and the names of Shaanxi snacks present in the work. For the purpose, the translator carefully collates the names of people and special snacks in Shaanxi that appear in the work. Besides, the author will combine the above examples to make an in-depth analysis of the translation when writing the paper. The following conclusions have been drawn: Firstly, when the author of the original wants to highlight the uniqueness of Chinese folk culture, she should use domesticating translation, because this kind of translation strategy can retain the characteristic content of the original. In addition, if the author wants foreign readers to understand the local snacks, the translator should use the direct translation. The direct translation method can give the Western readers a basic understanding of the main ingredients used in the special snacks.

Abstract:In the contemporary era, there is a burgeoning trend of intercultural communication among nations, prominently encompassing interactions within the scientific and technological (Sci. & Tech) domain. Within China, there has been a conspicuous dearth in the realm of Science and Technology translation, notably concerning the precise rendition of intricate professional knowledge across specific specialized fields and the requisite translation calibre. This deficiency has been accentuated by the absence of pertinent theoretical frameworks. Within this context, this research delves into the stylistic attributes of English for Science and Technology (EST) and elucidates translation strategies within the framework established by Yan Fu. Initially, the study scrutinizes the distinctive characteristics of EST, encompassing lexicon, syntax, and textual structures. Subsequently, it extrapolates these findings to the domain of Sci. & Tech translation. The ensuing section chronicles the evolution of domestic translation studies, culminating in the exposition of Yan Fus translation standards-namely, faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance. The paper concludes by summarizing the targeted translation strategies for Sci. & Tech translation, encompassing meticulous preparation, the pursuit of precision, and rigorous review and refinement processes.
