Abstract:The development of linguistics in China is closely related to the terminology of the discipline and its translation. With the increasing number of linguistic terms, the translation of terms is bound to be inconsistent and even chaotic. Based on an overview of the characteristics of linguistic terms and their translation bottlenecks, the translation and clarity of linguistic terms are crucial in interpreting complex linguistic theories. Therefore, it is imperative to explore, identify and correct the translation of linguistic terms and put forward the feasible ways of translation. As far as the translation of linguistic terms is concerned, hermeneutic theory is operable in this application, and many problems in the translation of linguistic terms can be reasonably explained and caused by hermeneutic theory. Based on the translation practice of linguistic terms, this paper discusses the translation methods of linguistic terms from the perspective of Skopos theory, combining the theoretical research of Skopos theory with the author’s translation practice.

Abstract:From the emergence of the concept of the Internet of Things to today, China has always been very concerned about the development of the Internet of Things technology. The research and application of Internet of Things technology has become an important measure for the country to promote supply-side reform. The Internet of Things technology is the core innovation content of the country and an important measure to realize the smart city. This paper analyzes the cutting-edge research results in the field of Internet of Things abroad. This paper focuses on the application of IoT technology in English terminology research. This paper specifically analyzes the feature extraction methods of Internet of Things terms and studies the application content of Internet of Things technology in English-Chinese translation. We specifically conduct translation research on the content in “The Internet of Things: Enabling Technologies, Platforms, and Use Cases,” focusing on the translation of scientific and technological terms. As a kind of technical English terminology, IoT English terminology has the characteristics of strong professionalism and rigorous semantics. This article specifically translates the original part of the practice report and classifies the terms that appear in it, including IoT English terms for which canonical translations have been made and IoT English terms that do not have standardized translations. The research will further carry out the investigation and analysis work. The research is to identify the terms that have standardized translation, especially the detailed research of the terms of the industry field. This paper selects standard translations and summarizes the translation methods of terms from three aspects: abbreviations, compound words, and semi-technical words. The research results provide guidance for terminology translation. This article translates terms that do not yet have a canonical translation. Based on terminology characteristics and existing terminology translation methods, this paper proposes a variety of translation methods such as literal translation, decomposing and combining, and non-translation. The study described in detail with examples. The research results of this paper are expected to provide some reference for translators engaged in the translation of scientific and technological documents.

Abstract:Translation studies conducted since China’s reform and opening up has played a pivotal role in the establishment of translation as a discipline in this country.Whether in introducing insightful theoretical perspectives on the translational practice,laying a conceptual foundation for the discipline,promoting translation-related pedagogy, enriching the teaching of foreign languages,fostering a historical understanding of the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,or enhancing China’s soft power,remarkable achievements have been made by Chinese translation scholars.Having gained its disciplinary status and succeeded in refuting popularly held misassumptions such as"translation is not amenable to theory"or"theories of translation are useless,"however,how translation studies should further develop itself in China poses a formidable challenge to its practitioners.This paper takes up the challenge by reflecting on some of the burning issues of the moment,including those over the exclusive adoption of the cultural approach to the study of translation,the dearth of translation-specific theoretical sources,and the subordination of translation to some better established disciplines.

Its primary aim is to convey knowledge and information accurately, making content precision and logical coherence the core for translating scientific and technical texts. This paper delves into the translation of The Romance of Reality, a scientific and technical book that explores the origins of life and the development of the universe through the presentation of various scientific and technical theories. The translator explores the applicability of translation shift theory, proposed by Catford in 1965, to the translation of this scientific narrative text (chapter one), specifically focusing on the two major types of shifts: level shifts and category shifts, including structural shifts, class shifts, and unit shifts.

Abstract:Abstract This article outlines some main developments that have led to the recent emergence of research on the ‘sociology of translation.’ Such research adopts approaches from the broader social sciences, particularly sociology, but is also directly related to the so-called ‘cultural turn’ within translation studies. The scope of translation research has subsequently expanded to include cultural and power-related issues, creating common ground with the social sciences both in terms of how translation is conceptualized and the methods used to study it. Translation has come to be understood as a socially situated relation with difference, just as translation practitioners and researchers have been understood as complex, situated agents acting within and across the social spheres that condition cross-cultural, multilingual exchange. Abstract:Quite different from translation for general purposes, transplanted legal discourse is often unmatchable to the target discourse community. In reality, exact equivalence could not be found in terms of translation in legal transplant, which means the major task of translation in legal transplant is to solve lacunae, discursive gaps between the source text and the target text. In legal translation, a lacuna seems to constitute a factor of untranslatability. This paper, based on a study of four cases, argues that equivalence can be achieved within the proposed Translational Triangle. The sociosemiotic approach is adopted in this study to explore the complexity in legal translation, and provide insights into legal translation, both theoretically and practically.

Abstract:Abstract San Ti (Three Body , better known to English readers as The Three-Body Problem) stands out as the most successful Chinese literary work introduced to international audiences through translation. Previous studies have primarily focused on translating culture-specific terms and fictive terms in the work, arguing that the strategy of foreignization alongside occasional footnotes significantly contributes to its tremendous success. Techno-scientific terms, on the other hand, have received relatively little attention because their rendering seemed to be a straightforward matter of back translation. However, our case study reveals that the source-text-oriented translation strategy for culture-specific terms and fictive terms presents only a partial picture of the science fiction (SF) terminology translation in San Ti . It demonstrates that translating techno-scientific terms needs to be considered alongside culture-specific and fictive terms. Moreover, it provides proof that translating techno-scientific terms cannot be simplified to a process of back translation only. The translator sometimes deviated from the principles of equivalence, resulting in three different types of interlingual terminological shifts, which are discussed and analyzed in the current study. Given the heterogeneity of the target readers and the interesting paradox of San Ti as hard SF, these different types of deviation serve two divergent purposes: popularization and scientization. In addition to explaining the success of San Ti in the English-speaking world, the findings of this case study also provide insights into the unfaithful facets, contextual factors and research scope of terminology translation in this specific genre.

Abstract:In the contemporary era, there is a burgeoning trend of intercultural communication among nations, prominently encompassing interactions within the scientific and technological (Sci. & Tech) domain. Within China, there has been a conspicuous dearth in the realm of Science and Technology translation, notably concerning the precise rendition of intricate professional knowledge across specific specialized fields and the requisite translation calibre. This deficiency has been accentuated by the absence of pertinent theoretical frameworks. Within this context, this research delves into the stylistic attributes of English for Science and Technology (EST) and elucidates translation strategies within the framework established by Yan Fu. Initially, the study scrutinizes the distinctive characteristics of EST, encompassing lexicon, syntax, and textual structures. Subsequently, it extrapolates these findings to the domain of Sci. & Tech translation. The ensuing section chronicles the evolution of domestic translation studies, culminating in the exposition of Yan Fus translation standards-namely, faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance. The paper concludes by summarizing the targeted translation strategies for Sci. & Tech translation, encompassing meticulous preparation, the pursuit of precision, and rigorous review and refinement processes.

Abstract:Neologisms are the materialization on the lexical level of new ideas and situations depicted in science fiction.How to transplant the coined words and expressions complete with their "newness" or "alienness" into the target language is one of the primary issues that the SF translator has to deal with.This paper probes into the main characteristics of neologisms in science fiction before examining the construction and categories of SF neologisms in English.The principles that the translator should abide by as well as other points for attention in the E-C translation of SF neologisms are also discussed.

Abstract:In recent decades, the scope of terminology research has been extended. The peculiarities and complexities of terminology are further ascertained by the exploration into the practice of terminology translation in the field of humanities and social sciences. The cultural functions that terminology in this research field (H&SS terms) fulfill and the intrinsic difficulties involved in translating them are worth further investigation. This paper based on some reflections of the development of the NUTermBank discusses the legitimacy of terminology translation as independent research and makes an initial attempt to theorize about how the research can be actually carried out. A holistic view of terminology translation is taken and a 3-M research model is proposed in this paper.

Abstract:This paper explores the nature of technical terms from a semantic standpoint, gleaning insight from both classical and cognitive models. It also discusses this topic’s relevance and application to the interpretation and translation of key biblical terms. Anyone who has spent time reading an academic book or article has encountered an unfamiliar word, or even more confusing, a familiar word that does not seem to mean what it would normally mean. An example of this comes from general and cognitive linguistics, fields relevant to this study. The literature frequently uses terms such as “frame,” “domain,” and “context.” These terms often vary from their more general definitions, from their definition in a related subfield of linguistics, and even from the definition given by another author in the same field. This is just one manifestation of the flexibility and sometimes frustration of language. Any person or social group can select a word and use it for their purposes, regardless of how others typically use it. The Bible is no exception to this phenomenon. The biblical authors used some words in technical or specialized ways, with the result that their meanings were in some way distinct from more general usages.
