Abstract:Using techniques in motivic homotopy theory, especially the theorem of Gheorghe, the second and the third author on the isomorphism between motivic Adams spectral sequence for $C\tau $ and the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence for $BP_{*}$ , we compute the classical and motivic stable homotopy groups of spheres from dimension 0 to 90, except for some carefully enumerated uncertainties.

Abstract:We identify seven new $192$-periodic infinite families of elements in the $2$-primary stable homotopy groups of spheres. Although their Hurewicz image is trivial for topological modular forms, they remain nontrivial after $\mathrm{T}(2)$- as well as $\mathrm{K}(2)$-localization. We also obtain new information about $2$-torsion and $2$-divisibility of some of the previously known $192$-periodic infinite families in the stable stems.

Abstract:We prove that the 2-primary $\pi_{61}$ is zero. As a consequence, the Kervaire invariant element $\theta_5$ is contained in the strictly defined 4-fold Toda bracket $\langle 2, \theta_4, \theta_4, 2\rangle$. Our result has a geometric corollary: the 61-sphere has a unique smooth structure and it is the last odd dimensional case - the only ones are $S^1, S^3, S^5$ and $S^{61}$. Our proof is a computation of homotopy groups of spheres. A major part of this paper is to prove an Adams differential $d_3(D_3) = B_3$. We prove this differential by introducing a new technique based on the algebraic and geometric Kahn-Priddy theorems. The success of this technique suggests a theoretical way to prove Adams differentials in the sphere spectrum inductively by use of differentials in truncated projective spectra.

Abstract:In this paper, we examine the homotopy classes of positive loops in ${\rm Sp}(2n)$. We demonstrate that two positive loops are homotopic if and only if they are homotopic through positive loops. As consequences, we can extend several results of McDuff \cite{McD} and Chance \cite{Cha} to higher dimensional symplectic manifolds without dimensional restrictions.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Abstract:We describe the first stem of the stable homotopy groups of spheres by using some Puppe sequences, Thom complexes, K-Theory and Adams operations following the ideas of J. Frank Adams. We also touch upon the second and the third stems in this perspective. Neither spectral squences nor Steenrod operations are used.

Abstract:This paper introduces an abelian group HTheta(V)(G) for all semi-linear homology G-spheres, which corresponds to a known abelian group Theta(V)(G) for all semi-linear homotopy G-spheres, where G is a compact Lie group and V is a G-representation with dim V-G>0. Then using equivariant surgery techniques, we study the relation between both HTheta(V)(G) and Theta(V)(G) when G is finite. The main result is that under the conditions that G-action is semi-free and dim V-dim V(G)greater than or equal to3 with dim V-G>0, the homomorphism T:Theta(V)(G)-->HTheta(V)(G) defined by T([Sigma](G))=<Sigma>(G) is an isomorphism if dim V(G)not equal3, 4, and a monomorphism if dim V-G=4. This is an equivariant analog of a well-known result in differential topology. Such a result is also applied to the equivariant inertia groups of semi-linear homology G-spheres.

Abstract:This paper is an English translation of chapter nine of the book "Adams spectral sequence and stable homotopy groups of spheres" by Jinkun Lin (in Chinese)(Sciences Press, Beijing 2007). In this paper, a sequence of new indecomposable families in the stable homotopy groups of spheres such as h_0h_n,h_nb_n,h_0h_nh_m,h_0(h_mb_{n-1}-b_{m-1}h_n) families was detected. The proof of all the detections was stated in this paper in based on several published papers by the author.
The Borel and genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequences

Abstract:We find out some relations between the classical Adams spectral sequences for stunted real projective spectra, the Borel $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere, and the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere. This allows us to understand the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence from the Borel Adams spectral sequences. We show that the Borel Adams spectral sequence is computable as a classical Adams spectral sequence.

Abstract:To the integral symplectic group Sp(2g,Z) we associate two posets of which we prove that they have the Cohen-Macaulay property. As an application we show that the locus of marked decomposable principally polarized abelian varieties in the Siegel space of genus g has the homotopy type of a bouquet of (g-2)-spheres. This, in turn, implies that the rational homology of moduli space of (unmarked) principal polarized abelian varieties of genus g modulo the decomposable ones vanishes in degree g-2 or lower. Another application is an improved stability range for the homology of the symplectic groups over Euclidean rings. But the original motivation comes from envisaged applications to the homology of groups of Torelli type. The proof of our main result rests on a refined nerve theorem for posets that may have an interest in its own right.

Abstract:We consider a generalization of Sperner's lemma for a triangulation $T$ of $(m+1)$-discs $D$ whose vertices are colored in $c=n+2$ colors. A proper coloring of $T$ on the boundary of $D$ determines a simplicial mapping $f:S^m \to S^n$ and the element $x=[f]$ in $\pi_m(S^n)$. For any element $x$ in this homotopy group we define a non--negative integer $\mu(x)$. For some cases this invariant can be found explicitly. Namely, if $m=n$ then this number is the Brouwer degree of the mapping $f$. For the case $m=3, n=2$ we found a lower bound for $\mu(x)$, where $x$ is the Hopf invariant, and proved that $\mu(1)=\mu(2)=9$. The main result of this paper is the theorem that the number of fully colored $n$-simplexes in $T$ is not less than $\mu([f])$. To prove this theorem, we use an extension of the Pontryagin theorem for relative framed cobordisms

Abstract:We prove that groups that are mod-p-homology equivalent are isomorphic modulo any term of their derived p-series, in precise analogy to Stallings' 1963 result for the lower-central p-series. Similarly spaces that are mod-p-homology equivalent have fundamental groups that are isomorphic modulo any term of their p-derived series. Various authors have related the ranks of the successive quotients of the lower central p-series and of the derived p-series of the fundamental group of a 3-manifold M to the volume of M, to whether certain subgroups of the fundamental group of M are free, whether finite index subgroups of the fundamental group of M map onto non-abelian free groups, and to whether finite covers of M are ``large'' in various other senses. Specifically, let A be a finitely-generated group and B be a finitely presented group. If a homomorphism induces an isomorphism (respectively monomorphism) on H_1(- ;Z_p) and an epimorphism on H_2(- ;Z_p), then for each finite n, it induces an isomorphism (respectively monomorphism) between the quotients of A and B by the n-th terms of their respective p-derived series. In fact we prove a stronger version that is analogous to Dwyer's extension of Stallings' theorem.

Abstract:For each prime $p$, we define a $t$-structure on the category $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ of harmonic $\mathbb{C}$-motivic left module spectra over $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, whose MGL-homology has bounded Chow-Novikov degree, such that its heart is equivalent to the abelian category of $p$-completed $BP_*BP$-comodules that are concentrated in even degrees. We prove that $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ is equivalent to $\mathcal{D}^b({{BP}_*{BP}\text{-}\mathbf{Comod}}^{ev})$ as stable $\infty$-categories equipped with $t$-structures. As an application, for each prime $p$, we prove that the motivic Adams spectral sequence for $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, which converges to the motivic homotopy groups of $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, is isomorphic to the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence, which converges to the classical Adams-Novikov $E_2$-page for the sphere spectrum $\widehat{S^0}$. This isomorphism of spectral sequences allows Isaksen and the second and third authors to compute the stable homotopy groups of spheres at least to the 90-stem, with ongoing computations into even higher dimensions.

Abstract:Given a finite group $G$, the {\it genus spetrum} ${\rm sp}(G)$ of $G$ is the set of integers $g\geq 0$ such that $G$ can act faithfully on an orientable closed surface of genus $g$ by orientation-preserving homeomorphisms. The determination of ${\rm sp}(G)$ is a classical topic and has a long history, but progress is lacked. In this paper, when $G$ is an abelian $p$-group with $p>2$, we propose a new approach to ${\rm sp}(G)$, giving a structural description for ${\rm sp}(G)$ in terms of a function which can be computed in finitely many steps.

Abstract:We prove the conjectural Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality for tilt slope stable objects on each Fano threefold X of Picard number one. Based on the previous works on Bridgeland stability conditions, this induces an open subset of geometric stability conditions on D^b(X). We also get a new stronger bound for the Chern characters of slope semistable sheaves on X.
