Abstract:In this paper, we describe the homotopy type of the homotopy fixed point sets of $S^3$-actions on rational spheres and complex projective spaces, and provide some properties of $S^1$-actions on a general rational complex.

Abstract:For arbitrary S^1 -actions on S^m_ℚ , S^n_ℚ , and S^m_ℚ× S^n_ℚ , we show the conditions for the tenability of the homotopy equivalence (S^m_ℚ)^hS^1× (S^n_ℚ)^hS^1≃ (S^m_ℚ× S^n_ℚ)^hS^1 . Here, X^hS^1 denotes the homotopy fixed point set of an S^1 -action on an space X .

Abstract:Let X be a finite CW-complex having mod p cohomology isomorphic to a wedge of three spheres S n ∨ S m ∨ S l , 1 ≤ n ≤ m ≤ l . The aim of this paper is to determine the fixed point sets of actions of the cyclic group of prime order on X. We also classify the orbit spaces of free actions of G = Z p , p a prime or G = S d , d = 1 or 3, on X and derive the Borsuk-Ulam type results.

Abstract:We describe the S*-action on the Quot-scheme Quot (8”) associated to the trivial bundle &"= CP x C". In particlular, the topology of the S*-fixed-point components in Quot (8”) and the S*-weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [LL-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus zero with target a flag manifold. The results on S'fixed points in this paper are used here to do explicit Mir-ror Principle computations in the case of Grassmannian manifolds. In fact, Mirror Principle computations involve only a certain distinguished subcol-lection of the S*-fixed-point components. These components are identified and are labelled by Young tableaus. The S*-equivariant Euler class es1 of the normal bundle to these components is computed. A diagrammatic rule that allows one to write down es1 directly from the Young tableau is given. From this, the aforementioned intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable maps can be worked out. Two examples are given to illustrate our method. Using the method, the A-model for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in a Grassmannian manifold can now also be computed explicitly. This work is motivated by the intention to provide further details of mirror principle and to understand the relation of mirror principle to physical theory. Some related questions are listed for further study.

Abstract:Let X be a connected finite CW-complex and Y be a connected rational space with minimal Sullivan model of the form $$(\Lambda (P\oplus Q), dP=0, dQ\subset \Lambda P),$$ where P and Q are graded spaces of finite type. In this paper, it is shown that the rational homotopy type of $${\text {map}}(X, Y)$$ is determined by the cohomology algebra $$H^*(X; \mathbb {Q})$$ and the rational homotopy type of Y.

Abstract:Let G = Z2 act on a finitistic space X having mod 2 cohomology of the product of three spheres S^n x S^m x S^l. In this paper, we have determined the fixed point sets of involutions on X. This generalizes J. C. Su [12] results for involutions on the product of two sphere S^n x S^m.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that if a finite group acts smoothly and effectively on an integral homology six-sphere and the fixed point set has an odd Euler characteristic, then the acting group is isomorphic to either the alternating group on five letters, the symmetric group on five letters, or the Cartesian product of the alternating group on five letters and a group of order 2 and the fixed point set consists of precisely one point.

Abstract:William Browder in his paper "Surgery and the theory of differentiable transformation groups" developed surgery techniques to study semi-free actions of S1 on homotopy spheres, under the additional assumption that the fixed point set is a homotopy sphere. He used this surgery to show how to construct such actions. In this paper, I discussed a similar theory for semi-free actions of S3 on homotopy spheres. An open problem is raised at the end of the paper.

Abstract:We introduce a Hopf algebroid associated to a proper Lie group action on a smooth manifold. We prove that the cyclic cohomology of this Hopf algebroid is equal to the de Rham cohomology of invariant differential forms. When the action is cocompact, we develop a generalized Hodge theory for the de Rham cohomology of invariant differential forms. We prove that every cyclic cohomology class of the Hopf algebroid is represented by a generalized harmonic form. This implies that the space of cyclic cohomology of the Hopf algebroid is finite dimensional. As an application of the techniques developed in this paper, we discuss properties of the Euler characteristic for a proper cocompact action.

Abstract:In this article, we study the effects of topological and smooth obstructions on the existence of rational homology complex projective planes that admit quotient singularities of small indices. In particular, we provide a classification of the types of quotient singularities that can be realized on rational homology complex projective planes with indices up to three, whose smooth loci have trivial first integral homology group.

Abstract:This paper studies symplectic manifolds that admit semi-free circle actions with isolated fixed points. We prove, using results on the Seidel element due to McDuff and Tolman, that the (small) quantum cohomology of a $2n$ dimensional manifold of this type is isomorphic to the (small) quantum cohomology of a product of $n$ copies of $\bb{P}^1$. This generalizes a result due to Tolman and Witsman.

Abstract:Using techniques in motivic homotopy theory, especially the theorem of Gheorghe, the second and the third author on the isomorphism between motivic Adams spectral sequence for $C\tau $ and the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence for $BP_{*}$ , we compute the classical and motivic stable homotopy groups of spheres from dimension 0 to 90, except for some carefully enumerated uncertainties.

Abstract:In this paper, we determined the $2,3$-components of the homotopy groups $\pi _{r+k}(\Sigma ^{k}\mathbb{H}P^{2})$ for all $ 7\leq r\leq15$ and all $\;k\geq0$, especially for the unstable ones. And we gave the applications, including the classification theorems of the 1-connected CW complexes having CW types of the suspended $\mathbb{H} P^{3}$ localized at 3 , and the decompositions of the suspended self smashes.

Abstract:In the paper "Algebraic classification of rational CR structures on topological 5-sphere with transversal holomorphic S^1-action in C^4" (Yau and Yu, Math. Nachrichten 246-247(2002), 207-233), we give algebraic classification of rational CR structures on the topological 5-sphere with transversal holomorphic S^1-action in C^4. Here, algebraic classification of compact strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds X means classification up to algebraic equivalence, i.e. roughly up to isomorphism of the normalization of the complex analytic variety V which has X as boundary. The problem is intimately related to the study of 3-dimensional isolated rational weighted homogeneous hypersurface singularities with link homeomorphic to S^5. For this, we need the classification of 3-dimensional isolated rational hypersurface singularities with a C*-action. This list is only available at the homepage of one of us. Since there is a desire for a complete list of this classification (cf. Theorem 3.3), we decide to publish it for the convenience of readers.

Abstract:We show that the existence of rational points on smooth varieties over a field can be detected using homotopy fixed points of etale topological types under the Galois action. As our main example we show that the surjectivity statement in Grothendieck's Section Conjecture would follow from the surjectivity of the map from fixed points to continuous homotopy fixed points on the level of connected components. Along the way we define a new model for the continuous etale homotopy fixed point space of a smooth variety over a field under the Galois action.
