Abstract:Numerical simulations of the course of the plate blade impacting target with the different angles and the initial velocity were performed based on the finite element model.The deformation and the energy change law of the blade and the target and the influence of the impacting angle during the impacting were analyzed.The deformation and energy change law of the plate and the target were obtained.The simulation results show that the impacting angle has effect on the critical speed of target broke down dramatically.The smaller angle is,the greater critical speed is.The deformation of target absorbed is the local peak while the target is broke down.

Abstract:Using LS-DYNA finite element method,simulation and analysis for impact force of impact crasher was done.In order to study the effect of the rock crushing effect on the impact forces under the flat hammer and impact plate.Failure constitutive model-the plasticity kinematic model was adopted.That is to say,if the strain somewhere in the rock exceeds the failure value,the rock would fail at this position,therefore the effect of the rock on the impact force in impacting process was simulated.Simulation shows that for a smaller impact velocity,the impact force and velocity has a linear relationship.If the impact velocity exceeds a certain value,the impacted position of rock will failure,and the relationship of it will be a quadratic curve.At the same time the impact force of the rock at different position was simulated and a helpful conclusion was obtained.

Abstract:In order to investigate the ballistic resistance and failure pattern of the casing with the impact of disk fragment, and find out structure optimization method, the phenomena of 1/3 disk fragment impacting on single and double layers plate target were simulated using nonlinear dynamical analysis software Dytran. Johnson-Cook material model was introduced for the disk fragment and the plate target, along with Gruneisen equation of state. Based on Lagrange method, impaction was simulated using explicit finite element method. Simulation results show that the major failure patterns of the plate target include plastic deformation, shear and tensile fracture, and that the single-layer plate has greater resistance than any other double-layered plates. Conclusions are also made that the ballistic limit velocity increases with the distance when it is beyond a certain value, and that the greater resistance is obtained in low or high proportion of the first layer with a constant of the total thickness. So, the resistance of double-layered plate targets may exceed that of the single plate, by reasonably arranging the thickness and the standoff distance of two plates.

Abstract:To investigate the ballistic resistance and failure pattern of aeroengine casing following the impact of disk fragments, and to determine the optimum case structure, the phenomena of a 1/3rd disk fragment impact on single and double-layered thin plate targets were simulated using nonlinear dynamical analysis software MSC.Dytran. Strain rate effect was introduced in a Johnson-Cook (JC) material model for the disk fragment and the plate. Impact modeling was based on the Arbitrary Lagrange-Eulerian method, and simulated using explicit finite element method (FEM). Simulation results showed that the major failure pattern of the plate is shearing and tensile fracture with large plastic deformation. It was also concluded that the ballistic limit velocity increases with the standoff distance when it is beyond a certain value, and that greater resistance is obtained when the front plate has either a proportionately low or high thickness. The impact resistance of a double-layered plate may exceed that of a single plate if the thicknesses and standoff distance of the two plates are set appropriately.

Abstract:Based on two kinds of upper mould bases real structures of high speed punch, the structure was simplified and simulation models were built in next step. According to working condition of actual temperature changes and moving characteristics for the high speed punch, the thermal boundary conditions, the thermal- stress coupling conditions and mechanical constraint conditions of the simulation model were set up, and the deformation for the guiding hole of upper mould base were got through simulation analysis. Through the comparison of the two simulation results, it illustrated that the improved upper mould base is more suitable for high speed punch with high punch frequency condition.

Abstract:It is often in the interest of a designer to know the transient state of stress in a plate subjected to an underwater explosion. In this paper, an analytical method based on Taylor's fluid-solid interaction (FSI) model, Mindlin plate theory, Laplace transform, and its inversion is proposed to examine the elastic dynamic response of a plate subjected to an underwater explosion. This analytical method includes shear deformation, the moments and membrane stress in the plate, and the FSI effect and considers a full profile of possibilities. The results of the response-time histories and the response distribution on the plate in terms of displacements and stresses from the analytical method are compared with finite element analysis (FEA) to validate this method, and the comparison indicates good agreement. Comparison of the acceleration at the center of an air-backed plate between the analytical method and the experiment from relevant literature, shows good agreements, and the analytical method and its FSI model are validated. The influence of the FSI is investigated in detail. All extreme values of the response-time histories decrease as the thickness increases for the non-FSI case. The results can be used as benchmark solutions in further research.

Abstract:The impact crusher that exploits impact rather than pressure to break down materials has been widely used in the mineral industry. To further improve its performance in material crushing, numerical simulation capable of providing a deeper insight into the complicated dynamics of feed materials than experimental study has emerged as a promising tool. However, the field of the accurate prediction of product quality and explicit simulation of breakage events inside an industrial-scale crusher remains underexplored on account of the absence of a robust breakage model and heavy computational cost. In this study, a numerical investigation of an industrial-scale crusher using the fast-cutting breakage model is conducted within the DEM (Discrete Element Method) framework. The accuracy of the breakage simulation is quantitatively validated by comparing the predicted results with the measurements from actual production. Furthermore, the influence of operating conditions including the rotation speed of the rotor and the feeding rate on the interested parameters, i.e., the power consumption of the equipment, the size distribution of the products, and the impact-induced wear is investigated comprehensively. The results illustrate that (i) the size of the product increases with the rotor speed until a critical value, after which a further increase in rotor speed will exert no significant influence on the size distribution; (ii) The feeding rate is not a critical operating condition that largely determines the fineness of the product and the efficiency of the equipment almost remain stable under a certain range of feeding rates; (iii) The wear of the devices concentrates on the rotor and the impact plates, and the distribution of the wear exhibits different characteristics in different parts, caused by the complex collision between the particles and the devices.

Abstract:Rotor is the major work components of vertical shaft impact crusher and tip set extra hard is the most wearing part of it. Based on the analysis of the structure and the working principles of the vertical shaft impact crusher, we set up the three-dimensional model of the rotor in Solid Works. Through the importation of the 3-D model into ADAMS for the dynamic simulation, we simulate the throwing process of the materials when the crusher is in operation, then gain the variation of the biggest and average impact force suffered by the tip set extra hard of rotor at different spindle speed. Simulation analysis shows that the speed of the rotor is an important factor that impacts the crushing quality and efficiency of the vertical shaft impact crusher, but the crushing effect is not always rising with the speed increasing and high speed would aggravate the wear and tear of tip set extra hard .The speed range of the rotor is from 1400 to 1500 rpm or from 1600 to 1750 rpm, between which the tip set extra hard suffers balanced force and can operate stably. In addition, in order to fully take into account the crusher broken quality, efficiency and service life, reducing the value and frequency of the greatest impact is of vital important, for one thing, the rotor structure and the optimization of the relevant parameters need to be taken into consideration, for another thing, the impact of the of uniformity of the feed particle size should also be analyzed.

Abstract:The layered rock mass widely exists in mining, construction, transportation, and water conservancy projects, and the damage phenomena of plate crack and spalling often occurs in the process of coal and rock dynamic disaster in deep mining. Therefore, the rock mass nearby excavation surface is usually considered to be composed of layers of thin plate rock mass to reveal the damage and failure mechanism of rock mass. In the whole dynamic process of mining and coal and rock dynamic disaster, rock mass would bear the dynamic disturbance from mine earthquake, and at present, the mechanical characteristics of rock mass are mainly studied under static load, while dynamic mechanical response characteristics and the mechanisms of dynamic damage, failure, and disaster-causing are still unclear. This study mainly focused on the dynamic response characteristic and failure mechanism of rock mass based on a rectangular thin plate model. The frequency equations and deflection equations of the thin plate rock mass with different boundary conditions (S-F-S-F, S-C-S-C, and C-C-C-C) were established under free vibration by the thin plate model and the dual equation of the Hamilton system, and the deflection equations under impact load were derived based on the Duhamel integral. And then, the effective vibration modes of the thin plate rock mass with different boundary conditions and their natural frequencies were obtained by Newton’s iterative method. Based on the third-strength theory and the numerical simulation results by LS-DYNA, the maximum shear of the effective vibration modes and the processes of damage and failure under impact load were analyzed. The research results showed that the initial position of damage and failure may be determined by effective vibration mode with the lowest frequency; the develop tendency of which by the combined actions of other effective vibration modes and the effective vibration modes with lower frequency could have greater influence on the process of damage and failure of the thin plate rock mass, which are beneficial to revealing the mechanism of coal and rock dynamic disaster.

Abstract:Due to the entrapment of compressible air, the process of a flat plate impact on water is complicated, which cannot be reproduced using incompressible simulations. To investigate such a slamming process, an accuracy compressible fluid–structure interaction numerical model has been proposed. The solution of this model is based on the constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method to solve the Navier–Stokes equations for the computation of fluid, and an implicit immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to calculate the fluid–structure interaction. Firstly, the present (CIP–IBM–based) model is validated against the problem of the flow past a stationary cylinder. Then it is implemented to simulate the problem of a rigid flat plate impact on water. The predicated impact pressure is compared with reference experiments and other simulations. The CIP–IBM–based model shows a better performance in dealing with sub-atmospheric pressure and reloading. From the numerical view, it is shown that the oscillation of the slamming pressure is significantly affected by the compression and expansion of the entrapped air cushion, and under the influence of the air cushion, the slamming pressure distribution along the bottom is not constant, which also varies greatly with time.

Abstract:To explore the dynamic mechanical properties and damage evolution law of the more common layered rock masses in geotechnical engineering, this paper determined the Holmquist–Johnson–Cook (HJC) constitutive model parameters of dolomite, gray sandstone, and limestone according to the static mechanical parameters of the rock mass. We used Hypermesh/ANSYS software to establish the numerical analysis model, carried out the dynamic impact numerical simulation of the layered rock mass, and analyzed the stress wave propagation characteristics, dynamic stress–strain relationship, energy dissipation, and damage evolution laws of layered rock masses under different combinations. At the same time, this paper analyzed the stress characteristics of the layered rock mass and studied its failure characteristics. The research results show that the wave impedance matching relationship alters the dynamic characteristics of the layered rock mass; however, with the increase in impact velocity, the difference gradually weakens. The difference in elastic modulus leads to different initial failure modes of layered rock masses, and the quality of the wave impedance matching relationship leads to differences in the law of damage evolution of layered rock masses. Under different combination forms, the failure degree and failure modes of the two parts of the layered rock mass are different.

Abstract:The process of Down-the-Hole(DTH) hammer drilling is very complex for its high non-linear,large deformation and damage behavior.For this complex problem,currently studies are mainly based on experiments.Taken brittle material concrete as the impact specimen,this work employs the explicit time integration nonlinear finite element code LS-DYNA to analyze the impact process of DTH hammer bit insert.The impact forces,insert penetration velocity and force-penetration behavior of concrete under bit insert impact has been recorded,with the formation of concrete craters and fractures has been also investigated.According to the simulated results,it is believed that the numerical simulation method will contribute to an improved knowledge of concrete fragmentation under bit insert impact,which will in turn help to enhance drilling efficiency through the improved design of bit tools and equipment.

Abstract:The process of impact hammer drilling is characterized by high non-linearity and large deformation and damage. The process of its longitudinal impact on concrete was studied by using non-linear finite element program LS-DYNA3D and the deformation and crushing mechanism of concrete under different impact hammer speeds, the impact force, the displacement after penetrating the concrete and impact force-penetrating depth curve of the drilling system were studied. The result shows that the bounces of anvil and bit lead to the many times of percussion of the impact hammer drilling system. In the whole impact and penetration process, the largest impact force peak does not occur at the largest penetration depth. The concrete crushing process under the function of pneumatic impact hammer includes four stages: elasto-plastic deformation, brittle cracking, extrusion crushing and unloading. LS-DYNA3D numerical simulation is used to well represent the physical process of the concrete damage by the penetration of the impact hammer drilling, providing an efficient analysis method for the study of the functioning process of impact hammer on brittle materials and of the optimal design of impact hammer.

Abstract:Sandstone impact is a common occurrence that can have critical implications, especially in the transportation sector. In order to enhance the ability of structures such as aircraft and other vehicles to withstand impacts from sandstone debris, simulation tools can be employed during the structural design stage. To determine the rate-dependent constitutive parameters of sandstone that can be used for creating a material model to simulate sandstone impacts, a detailed investigation on the dynamic mechanical properties of sandstone was performed by conducting quasi-static, dynamic, and impact tests. The results demonstrate that the determined parameters of Holmquist–Johnson–Cook (HJC) model can accurately describe the mechanical behaviour of sandstone in static and dynamic compression tests. The model also predicts well the impact response of sandstone against aluminum target plates. Parametric studies were conducted to explore the sensitivity of the constitutive parameters as well as to provide guidance for determining the values for constitutive parameters that are difficult to determine experimentally. The simulation model presented in this study provides a valuable tool for designing vehicles or aircraft that can better tolerate impact damage from sandstone debris.

Abstract:The energy transfer efficiency and damage characteristics are the theoretical basis for the selection and optimization of hydraulic impact hammer tools. In this paper, quarter three-dimensional models of the piston-tool-rock system are established based on the continuum and discontinuum element method. The incident and reflected stress waves and rock damage characteristics obtained from the simulation model are in good agreement with experimental and theoretical results. The effects of piston impact velocity, tool shape, rock strength, confining pressure and repeated impacts on rock damage zone and energy transfer efficiency between tool and rock are analyzed. The force-penetration curves and penetration coefficients under different impact velocities, rock strength, and confining pressure conditions are obtained. The results illustrate that the energy transfer efficiency and penetration coefficient increase with the increase of rock strength, confining pressure and tip area of tool, but decrease with the increase of impact velocity. Based on the simulation results, a prediction formula for penetration force with consideration of the shape of the tool tip is proposed and the calculation accuracy is verified. Finally, the proportion of energy actually used for rock fracturing is analyzed.

Abstract:In this paper, ANSYS/LS-DYNA which is a non-linear dynamic finite element software is applied to simulate the processes of two kinds of X-sandwich plate hit by a rigid sphere. Ultimate-ly the sandwich plate can be used to replace some components of the traditional steel protective dev-ices aimed at improving the overall crashworthiness performance of protective devices. This paper analyzes the influence of two plates on crashworthiness. And based on the comparison between the sandwich plates and the equivalent flat plate, the results from numerical simulation show that the X-sandwich panel can provide an excellent crashworthiness.Tight type of X-sandwich board is perfor-ms better than the discrete and ordinary steel plates, which can be applied to bridge protection device.
