Abstract:The recent progress and development of ironmaking in China as of 2019 was introduced. China has achieved a remarkable progress in eliminating outdated production capacity of steel industry, accomplishing the upper limit target ahead of schedule to reduce production capacity by 150 million tons during the thirteenth Five-Year plan. The blast furnaces are gradually forming a four-element burden structure of "sinter+pellet+lump+scrap", adapting to the increase of scrap supply in society. Large-scale blast furnaces has been the development trend, 25 blast furnaces with inner volume exceeding 4000 m3 are in operation by now. In order to cope with the environmental protection policy and benefit from the sufficient supply of steel, the direct reduction process has gained a booming development opportunity in China. Although the smelting reduction has formed a certain scale in China, it still cannot compete with blast furnace ironmaking process in terms of energy utilization efficiency.

Study on Optimizing the Sintering Proportioning in Masteel

Abstract:The high temperature sintering characteristics of ten kinds of iron ore fines in Masteel,such as assimilation,liquid phase fluidity,self-strength of bonding phase,the forming ability of SFCA and intergrowth bonding strength etc.were studied in this paper.Based on this,according to complementary principle of high temperature characteristics of iron ore fines,five groups of sintering proportioning optimization schemes were designed and sintering pot test was carried out,and good sintering effect was achieved for all schemes.The feasibility of sintering proportioning optimization method based on high temperature characteristics of iron ore fines was verified,and countermeasures were provided for Masteel to fully utilize iron ore fines resources,reduce proportioning cost and improve sinter quality.

Abstract:Major achievements of the national project, Fundamental Research on New Generation of Iron and Steel Materials in China (NG Steel), are reviewed in the paper. Ultrafine grained steel technology, based on deformation induced ferrite transformation (DIFT)and successive microstructure changes, is illustrated for grain refinement in both plain low carbon steel and microalloyed steel. Delayed fracture resistance of alloy structure steel can be improved through prior austenite grain refinement. It is shown by results that nano scale precipitates play an important role to grain refinement in thin slab casting and rolling (TSCR)process. Progresses on super cleanliness, high homogeneity, welding and metallurgical process simulation are also briefly introduced.
The Technical Integration of Energy Supplying and the Production Practice in 150 t Electric Arc Furnace Steel-making Process

Abstract:Three important technologies of energy supplying were introduced for 150 t electric arc furnace steel-making process in Tianjin Pipe Group Co., which were hot metal charging, 2500m~3/h oxygen supplying and 100MVA transformer power supplying, and they could be integrated reasonably among them. Through technological transformations and production practice for more than ten years, good production progress had been made. The tapping to tapping time was 54.6 min on average and the oxygen consumption approximately 42.9m~3/t. The smelting electricity consumption was decreased to about 325 kWh/t and the transformer utilization factor had surpassed 11 000 t/(MVA·a).

Abstract:Based on the balance test for mass and energy of the three sintering machines in Iron-making plant of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co.,Ltd.,the income and expense of mass and energy for these sinter machines were compared.The differences of thermal utilization efficiency for the three sinter machines were compared and analyzed in terms of the raw materials and solid fuels,process equipment and operation mode etc.The corresponding improvement measures adopted in Baosteel to optimize thermal utilization efficiency were summarized.In addition,the original measured data and analysis can provide important reference for technical modifications like saving energy,reducing cost and increasing production in future.

Abstract:The output of domestic arc furnace steel increased year by year which was near to 50 million ton in 2007. The number of large electric arc furnace increased obviously,in 2007 the output of≥50 t electric arc furnaces was about 83.5%of total electric arc steel,electric consumption decreased near to 300 kWh/t with tap-to-tap time≤60 min and average electrode consumption 2.43 kg/t,but the processes related to charging,steel grade,energy saving and environmental protection need to be promoted.The domestic electric arc steelmaking process is forging ahead.

Abstract:Blast furnace (BF) ironmaking is dominant for reducing pollution emission and energy consumption in iron and steel industry. Under the increasingly strict environmental pressure, some innovative technologies of BF ironmaking for environmental protection have been developed and applied in actual operating facilities. The current state of BF ironmaking in Europe, America, Japan, and China were briefly overviewed. Moreover, some innovative BF ironmaking technologies aiming at environmental harmony and operation intellectualization in the world, such as waste gas recycling sintering, BF operation with coke oven gas injection, ferro-coke, lime coating coke, BF visualization and intellectualization, were roundly summarized. Finally, some discussion on the technologies was carried out and the development trends of BF ironmaking were pointed out. The review could provide references and supports for the progress of environment-friendly technologies of BF ironmaking, thereby promoting their practical applications and achieving sustainable development of BF ironmaking, especially for Chinese ironmaking industry.

Abstract:Aiming at the situation of iron ore grade declination for 3 200 m3 Blast Furnace of Tianjin Iron and Steel Group Company Limited (TISCO), the authors took measures such as enhancing management over charging raw material and fuel, optimizing burden structure, implementing foreman operation standardization system, adopting low silicon and low surfer smelting, maintaining rational actual blast flow rate and blowing kinetic energy and increasing top pressure. Consequently, long term stable, balanced and high efficient production was achieved at the blast furnace. The paper provides experience for smelting of large scale blast furnace with low grade iron ore.

Abstract:The process management during the transportation of molten steel for gear steel production from BOF to electric furnace shop for further refining in the No.2 plant of a steel and iron company is briefly discussed.The dephosphorus and slag stopping in BOF,and the electricity delivery and calcium disposal in LF,important procedures affecting product quality,are included in the paper.Meanwhile the rolling process is also improved,and the advanced TMCP technique of controlled rolling and controlled cooling(CRCC technology) is adopted.Thus,rolled products with more consistent quality are obtained.

Abstract:Iron and steel making is one of the most intense energy consuming in the industrial sectors. The intensive utilization of fossil carbon in the ironmaking blast furnace (BF) is related directly to CO2 emission and global warming. Lowering the energy consumption and CO2 emission from BF comes on the top priorities from both economic and environmental aspects. The BF has undergone tremendous modifications and development to increase production and improve the overall efficiency. Both technological development and scientific research drive one another to reach optimum operation conditions, which are very close to the ideal conditions; however, further development is still required to meet the stringent environmental regulations. The present article provides a comprehensive review of recent research and development which were carried out in modern blast furnace to increase the productivity meanwhile reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emission to meet the demand of steel market and the environmental protection. The recent technological and metallurgical improvements in the BF are intensively discussed including: (i) modifications of BF design, top charging and measuring system, (ii) upgrading of conventional top charging burden and alternative agglomerates, (iii) developing of tuyeres injection system and injected materials, and (iv) potentials of waste heat recovery and usage. These topics are reviewed and discussed in some details to elucidate the potential of recent progress in BF technology in saving the energy consumption and lowering CO2 emission. In this paper, the major research and development which have been carried out in ironmaking BF technology are reviewed with an overview of the future prospects.

Abstract:Based on the fundamental processes and principles of ironmaking in a BF, an analysis was conducted on the production technical data from 18 large-scale 3200 m 3 BFs in China in 2020. The study systematically investigated the influence of top pressure on reduction, air injection, furnace top, energy consumption, and pig iron composition within the BF. Practical operations in a newly No. 1 3200 m 3 BF in a Chinese company demonstrated that increasing the top pressure not only effectively improved the smelting process, operational stability, and reduced furnace fluctuations but also led to a decrease in dust emissions, increased pig iron yield and quality, and significantly reduced fuel consumption and process energy consumption. Against the backdrop of dual carbon objectives, gaining a scientific understanding of the dynamic operation principles of the BF smelting process and continuously exploring low-carbon ironmaking methods have become the focus for professionals and researchers in the fields of BF ironmaking, production management, technology, and scientific research.

Abstract:Ultra fine microstructure could increase strength, toughness and work life for steel products, this is developing trend since middle of 90 th in last century of the world. In this paper, it has been introduced by fruitable results coming from National Project of Fundamental Research on New Generation of Iron and Steel Materials in China that five methods which perform Ultra fine microstructure process: For Ferrite +Pearlite (F+P) microstructure, the heavy rolling and DIFT technology (Deformation Induced Ferrite Transformation) is applied; In Thin slab casting and rolling (TSCR) process, of nano meter precipitator has been performed;For low carbon bainite steel (LCB) and Acicular Ferrite (A.F) microstructure, the combination of Deformation Induced precipitation (DIP) and at middle temperature phase transformation is used, and developing Relaxation precipitation controlling (RPC) technology;For alloy construction steel with quench and high temperature tempering, heat treatment technique with getting Ultra fine prior austenite grain size, increase of hydrogen traps and interface strength are combined;Developing carbide free bainite / martensite microstructure with retained austenite film technique is introduced.

Abstract:The steelmaking process and the production data ot 50 t ultra-high power elec- tric arc furnace are analyzed in this paper, and the values of electric power consumption and oxygen consumption are gained by the EAF mass and heat balance calculation of dif- ferent hot metal charged ratio, including production practice in Laiwu Steel Pants. Then four steelmaking operation models for different working conditions helpful for the same kind of EAF plants are put forward.

Abstract:TISCO 3 200 m3 BF had been maintained in a working state of low level since start-up.In order to change the state,strengthened measures of focusing on high quality burden,attempting a charging system suitable to TISCO BF,increasing the pressure difference between top of BF and the furnace and adopting big blasting flow rate with enriched oxygen and humidified blasting were taken after a study of the advanced experience and operating concept on BAOSTEEL was carried out.Good smelting results were obtained and all indices of TISCO 3 200 m3 BF promoted to the front rank domestically.
