Abstract:Organoids are three-dimensional cell accusations generated from pluripotent stem cells or adult stem cells in vitro . With many advantages over cell and animal models, organoids have been increasingly used in drug and clinical medical research in recent years. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is characterized by multi-target and multi-pathway treatment methods; however, there is no commonly accepted study method regarding efficacy and underlying mechanisms. In this review we summarized the important applications of organoid models in pharmacodynamic mechanism studies, efficacy and safety evaluations, and CHM personalized medicine, thus providing the theoretical basis for its development and innovation.

Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Abstract:Synthetic chemical drugs, while being efficacious in the clinical management of many diseases, are often associated with undesirable side effects in patients. It is now clear that the need of therapeutic intervention in many clinical conditions cannot be satisfactorily met by synthetic chemical drugs. Since the research and development of new chemical drugs remain time-consuming, capital-intensive and risky, much effort has been put in the search for alternative routes for drug discovery in China. This narrative review illustrates various approaches to the research and drug discovery in Chinese herbal medicine. Although this article focuses on Chinese traditional drugs, it is also conducive to the development of other traditional remedies and innovative drug discovery.

Abstract:This article will review selected herbal products used in traditional Chinese medicine, including medicinal mushrooms ( bā xī mó gū; Agaricus blazei, yún zhī; Coriolus versicolor, líng zhī; Ganoderma lucidum, xiāng xùn; shiitake, Lentinus edodes, niú zhāng zhī; Taiwanofungus camphoratus), Cordyceps ( dōng chóng xià cǎo), pomegranate ( shí liú; Granati Fructus), green tea ( lǜ chá; Theae Folium Non Fermentatum), garlic ( dà suàn; Allii Sativi Bulbus), turmeric ( jiāng huáng; Curcumae Longae Rhizoma), and Artemisiae Annuae Herba ( qīng hāo; sweet wormwood). Many of the discussed herbal products have gained popularity in their uses as dietary supplements for health benefits. The review will focus on the active constituents of the herbs and their bioactivities, with emphasis on the most recent progress in research for the period of 2003 to 2011.

Abstract:Drug has a dual nature during use: therapeutic effects and side effects.The safety property of Chinese herb external preparations are usually higher than oral and injection preparations,it is easier to ignore its side effects,especially before we used,we don't know whether it will induce our skin allergy or not.Currently,there are few studies on how to predict the safety of external preparations.After read lots of domestic and foreign literatures,this study summarized a feasibility animal test program which can be used to predict the occurrence of external preparation allergic reactions,and this program can provide a reference to research the safety of external preparation.At the same time,it is significant to arouse the attention of experts and scholars on the topical of skin allergic reactions caused by external preparation.

Abstract:Abstracts: Objective To introduce the research development on the advances in establishment of animal models with hepatic cirrhosis and think about efifcacy evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).Methods The related references in the last decades at home and abroad about cirrhosis model were collated, analyzed and summarized.Results At present, single factor induced modeling and composite factors induced modeling were mainly two categories of the modeling scheme.Conclusion We should choose suitable animal model on the basis of TCM’s characteristic and combine the research of cirrhosis model with clinical disease closely, in order to screen and evaluate candidate drug, and offer methodological ensurance for TCM’s pharmacological preclinical research and efifcacy evaluation at the same time.

Abstract:Current medical therapeutics rely on scientific knowledge to improve health. However, certain aspects of medicine have not been practiced in a scientific manner. Chinese medicinal herbs are among the oldest evidence-based alternative and complementary therapies and their formulations are often not subjected to pre-market toxicity testing. With the booming market of Chinese herbal medicine worldwide, a new strategy must be formulated for the assessment of drug efficacy, effectiveness and toxicity to optimize the therapeutic and preventive potential of Chinese herbal medicine.

Abstract:With the increasing demand of medical research, disease animal models are widely used to study the mechanism of human disease initiation and development, drug screening, and treatment evaluation. The development of different kinds of disease animal models is reviewed. The advantages of China and the gap between China and the world in this field are analyzed. This review covers the fields of cancer, neurological diseases and mental health, infectious and immune diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and drug screening. The main future directions in this field are pointed out and the funding related to ‘disease animal models’ by the National Natural Science Foundation of China is introduced briefly.

Abstract:To the Chinese herbal develpment, the topical problem about the applied basic theory of pharmacology were studied and discussed, including the evaluating methods on herbal effects, the method of pharmacokinetics of the herbal complex, the study of the animal model based on traditional Chinese medical syndrome, and the toxicological study on the pharmacological target, the strategic ways were put forward. We should believe that the benefits of promoting the herbal new drug development and increasing the research level of it will be got, just by the way of discussing and studying the topics which are the problem needed to resolve at the time of the new drug development.
Development and prospect of establishment method of traditional Chinese medicine animal models

Abstract:The standardization of animal models of traditional Chinese medicine is an important link in promoting modernization of TCM. This paper reviewed the animal models of traditional etiology of TCM, modern medicine etiology and pathology and combination of disease and syndrome, and regarded the animal model of combination of disease and syndrome as a new development trend of the modern research of TCM. The animal model of combination of disease and syndrome is the ideal animal model, and it has many advantages such as conform to the theory of TCM, close to the characteristics of TCM syndrome, stabilization, reliable and practicable. Although animal model of combination of disease and syndrome is still in the exploratory stage, with the innovation of research method in technology and way of thinking, the specii cation of model evaluation system, the purii cation of preparation factors, the improvement of drug counterevidence method, it will be expected to the important force to reveal the essence and promote the modernization of TCM.

Abstract:With the advent of modern medical science,the effective compounds of traditional Chinese medicine has become the sure way into the world and get some recognition in the international area.A review,including the major domestic and foreign research methods in this field,was made,based on the summary of many reports,and some of the details in the research process,such as the selection of subjects,as well as effects of the experimental method for testing the sample processing,and ultimately to determine the effect of composition and other issues are analyzed and explained.As science and technology advances,the effective compounds of Chinese herbal formula research will have more new methods,new technologies inevitably,to resolve the current problem which is not yet solved.Through a multi-disciplinary,collaborative and exchanges,which will bring new development of the effective compounds of Chinese herbal formula.

Abstract:Animal model with Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome was the earliest animal model with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome.Many kinds of animal models with Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome were established with drug,hormone and operation successively in recent years.These animal models can be divided into two kinds according to mechanisms of model replicating methods:pathological model in western medicine and etiological model in traditional Chinese medicine.Available researches on animal model were far from reflecting the essence of Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome completely.The model replicating methods is nonstandard and there is a lack of study of methodology,influencing factors and mechanisms.All these influence the rational evaluation of the drugs of warming and tonifying Kidney-Yang.An animal model with Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome that is more suitable to clinical practice and TCM theory should be made based on the clinical manifestation of Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome and combined with modern research of pathology and etiology.The animal model should be established under the guidance of TCM theory so as to research the essence of Kidney-Yang Deficiency Syndrome and provide a better tool for the evaluation of the drugs of warming and tonifying Kidney-Yang.

Abstract:Objective: By studying the Animal models of Alzheimer′ Disease, in order to prove the necessity of setting up the efficacy evaluating system, and provide technical support for AD innovative drugs. Methods: The related references in recent ten years both at home and abroad were analyzed, collated and summarized. The efficacy evaluating system was set up based on the current research progress for AD animal models. Results: Although there are many models in Alzheimer′ Disease, but the causes of Alzheimer's disease′s are complex, and many of models are developed for single mechanism、stage and performance that can′t consider of the different factors in Alzheimer′ Disease. So there is no special Animal models of Pharmacodynamic evaluation in Alzheimer′ Disease. And the same to Chinese medicine pharmacology. Conclusion: We need to improve AD animal models based on etiology、pathogenesis、course and clinical manifestations. And we also need to consider its own characteristics and patterns of Chinese medicine and looking for the evaluation index that reflecting the nature and characteristics of TCM. And we should focus on the animal models which is suitable for Pharmacology study and Chinese medicine efficacy evaluation that based on Chinese medicine theory and clinical symptoms, in order to providereferences and research ideas for Chinese innovative drugs.

Abstract:Objective To establish the animal model of hepatic fibrosis with the basis of etiology and pathogenesis of hepatic fibrosis and the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),which is stable and reliable and is suitable for the activity and efficacy of TCM.Methods References in the last decades at home and abroad about the animal model of hepatic fibrosis were collated,summarized and analyzed.Results There are many medical pathologicals of hepatic fibrosis at present,though the mechanisms and applications of models are different.There are also many problems in the study of the efficacy evaluation and pathological mechanism of TCM,such as sensitivity,reliability and stability of the model.Conclusion We should research hepatic fibrosis animal model which is more in line with actual clinical syndromes and TCM theory on the basis of guidance of Chinese medicine theory,TCM clinical manifestations of hepatic fibrosis,combining modem etiology and pathogenesis study,in order to study the nature of hepatic fibrosis and liver medicine to provide better tools for evaluation,.

Abstract:Research on herbal medicinal products is increasingly published in “Western” scientific journals dedicated primarily to conventional medicines. Publications are concerned mainly not only on the issues of safety and interactions, but also on efficacy. In reviews, a recurring complaint has been a lack of quality studies. In this opinion article, we present the case of Chinese herbal medicines as an example, as they have been extensively used in the global market and increasingly studied worldwide. We analyze the potential reasons for problems and propose some ways forward. As in the case of any drug, clinical trials for safety, efficacy, and/or effectiveness are the ultimate demonstration of therapeutic usefulness of herbal products. These will only make scientific sense when the tested herbal products are authentic, standardized, and quality controlled, if good practice guidelines of evidence-based medicine are followed, and if relevant controls and outcome measures are scientifically defined. Herbal products are complex mixtures, and for such complexity, an obvious approach for mechanistic studies is network pharmacology based on omic tools and approaches, which has already begun to revolutionize the study of conventional drugs, emphasizing networks, interactions, and polypharmacological features behind the action of many drugs.

Abstract:Animal models in sexual dysfunction were reviewed to further improve the modeling methods and to promote the effectiveness of drug evaluation translation from animal models to humans. A MEDLINE search was performed to retrieve articles relating to animal models in sexual dysfunction. Researches on a variety of animal models in sexual dysfunction, with their own merits, has to a certain extent contributed to the understanding of sexual function. However, no models could give a fully accurate assessment of sexual function. The existing sexual function studies on animal models of interpretive function, the development mechanisms, the effects of drugs on sexual function and the clinical translation still have some deficiencies, but with their basic principles and ideas for the improvement of the models and the preservation of the valuable data of drugs and clinical trials.

Abstract:Animal medicine is a large category of Chinese medicinecommonly used in clinical practice and has important scientific and therapeutic value. Animal medicine isscarcer than herbal medicine. In recent years, with the vigorous development of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),the contradiction between the increasing industrial demand andsupply of scarce and even endangered medicinal animals has become increasingly prominent. The continuous lack of medicinal animal resources affects the clinical demandandalso causes serious damage to the ecological environment. Only relying on artificial breeding is not enough to alleviate the current condition of depletion. In the face of this dilemma, it is a major challenge for the current industrial development to protect animal resources and meet clinical and industrial needs with "available medicines". The application of substitutes for animal medicines isthe key focus to alleviate this problem, and it is also the key scientific issue to be solved urgently in the modernization of TCM. This paper summarizedand reviewedthe history, current situation, strategies, and methods of animal medicinesubstitution and put forward the point of view of "similar chemical characteristics, similar efficacy, and higher safety" to provide references for scientific substitution and resource protection of rare animals.
