Abstract:We present some sufficient conditions ensuring the upper semicontinuity and the continuity of the Bregman projection operator ΠCg and the relative projection operator PCg in terms of the D-approximate (weak) compactness for a nonempty closed set C in a Banach space X. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for the convexity of a Chebyshev subset of a Banach space X. Our results extend the corresponding results of [H.H. Bauschke, X.F. Wang, J. Ye and X. M. Yuan, Bregman distances and Chebyshev sets, J. Approx. Theory 159 (2009) 3–25] to infinite dimensional spaces.

Abstract:We prove that the strong convexity supporting condition is typical for an arbitrary convex compact set in . It is shown that, in a certain sense for almost all points, the metric projection onto a convex compact set satisfies the Lipschitz condition with Lipschitz constant strictly less than 1. This condition characterizes the strong convexity supporting condition. The linear convergence of the alternating projection method for a convex compact set with the strong convexity supporting condition and for a proximally smooth set is proved under a certain relation between the constant in the strong convexity supporting condition and the proximal smoothness constant.

Covering Constants for Metric Projection Operator with Applications to Stochastic Fixed-Point Problems

Abstract:In this paper, we use the Mordukhovich derivatives to precisely find the covering constants for the metric projection operator onto nonempty closed and convex subsets in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces. We consider three cases of the subsets: closed balls in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces, closed and convex cylinders in l, and the positive cone in L, for some p. By using Theorem 3.1 in [2] and as applications of covering constants obtained in this paper, we prove the solvability of some stochastic fixed-point problems. We also provide three examples with specific solutions of stochastic fixed-point problems.

Abstract:Using Maz'ya type integral identities with power weights, we obtain new boundary estimates for biharmonic functions on Lipschitz and convex domains in $R^n$. For $n\ge 8$, combined with a result in \cite{S2}, these estimates lead to the solvability of the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the biharmonic equation on Lipschitz domains for a new range of $p$. In the case of convex domains, the estimates allow us to show that the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem is uniquely solvable for any $2-\e<p<\infty$ and $n\ge 4$.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.

Abstract:The notions of Lipschitz conditions with L average are introduced to the study of convergence analysis of Gauss–Newton’s method for singular systems of equations. Unified convergence criteria ensuring the convergence of Gauss–Newton’s method for one kind of singular systems of equations with constant rank derivatives are established and unified estimates of radii of convergence balls are also obtained. Applications to some special cases such as the Kantorovich type conditions, γ-conditions and the Smale point estimate theory are provided and some important known results are extended and/or improved.

Abstract:In a Lipschitz cylinder, this paper is devoted to establish an almost sharp error estimate $O(varepsilonlog_2(1/varepsilon))$ in $L^2$-norm for parabolic systems of elasticity with initial-Dirichlet conditions, arising in the homogenization theory. To achieve the goal, with the parabolic distance function being a weight, we first developed some new weighted-type inequalities for the smoothing operator at scale $varepsilon$ in terms of t-anisotropic Sobolev spaces, and then all the problems may be reduced to three kinds of estimate for the homogenized system, in which a weighted-type Caccioppoliu0027s inequality on time-layer has also been found. Throughout the paper, we do not introduce any smoothness on coefficients compared to the arguments investigated by C.Kenig, F. Lin and Z. Shen in cite{SZW2}, while this study can be considered to be a further development of cite{GZS} and cite{QX2}.

Abstract:Let $D$ be a nonempty open set in a metric space $(X,d)$ with $\partial D\neq \emptyset$. Define \begin{equation*} h_{D,c}(x,y)=\log\left(1+c\frac{d(x,y)}{\sqrt{d_D(x)d_D(y)}}\right), \end{equation*} where $d_D(x)=d(x,\partial D)$ is the distance from $x$ to the boundary of $D$. For every $c\geq 2$, $h_{D,c}$ is a metric. In this paper, we study the sharp Lipschitz constants for the metric $h_{D,c}$ under Möbius transformations of the unit ball, the upper half space, and the punctured unit ball.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish various L2-estimates for the exterior differential operator on p-convex Riemannian manifolds in the sense of Harvey and Lawson. As applications, we establish a Carleman type estimate which is uniform with respect to both weight functions and domains, and we also obtain topological restrictions for a Riemannian manifold to be p-convex.

Abstract:We study local regularity properties of local minimizer of scalar integral functionals with controlled $(p,q)$-growth in the two-dimensional plane. We establish Lipschitz continuity for local minimizer under the condition $1<p\leq q<\infty$ with $q<3p$ which improve upon the classical results valid in the regime $q<2p$. Along the way, we establish an $L^\infty$-$L^2$-estimate for solutions of linear uniformly elliptic equations in the plane which is optimal with respect to the ellipticity contrast of the coefficients.

Abstract:We demonstrate that the almost everywhere convergence of the planar Bochner-Riesz means for $L^p$ functions in the optimal range when $5/3\leq p\leq 2$. This is achieved by establishing a sharp $L^{5/3}$ estimate for a maximal operator closely associated with the Bochner-Riesz multiplier operator. The estimate depends on a novel refined $L^2$ estimate, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Given a bounded Lipschitz domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n$, Rychkov showed that there is a linear extension operator $\mathcal E$ for $\Omega$ which is bounded in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. In this paper we introduce some new estimates for the extension operator $\mathcal E$ and give some applications. We prove the equivalent norms $\|f\|_{\mathscr A_{pq}^s(\Omega)}\approx\sum_{|\alpha|\le m}\|\partial^\alpha f\|_{\mathscr A_{pq}^{s-m}(\Omega)}$ for general Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. We also derive some quantitative smoothing estimates of the extended function and all its derivatives on $\overline\Omega^c$ up to the boundary.
