Abstract:Cr–Ni–Mo–V steels usually exhibit excellent performance under high-temperature friction and wear conditions. However, after hot rolling with a certain amount of deformation, Cr–Ni–Mo–V steels usually exhibit a banded microstructure, which significantly affects their mechanical properties and wear performance. In this study, the wear behavior and mechanical properties of two Cr–Ni–Mo–V steels with different grades of banded structures were studied at room temperature, 100 °C, 300 °C, and 500 °C. The results show that the specimens with higher grades have lower hardness at room temperature to 300 °C but exhibit better wear resistance. This is because the banded structure results in a microstructure with an alternating distribution of coarse and fine grains, which increases the work-hardening capacity. At 500 °C, the wear rate of higher grade specimens increased steeply owing to severe oxidative wear. This study provides relevant guidelines for the high-temperature wear mechanisms of steels with banded structures.
