Abstract:Liquid hydrocarbon steam reforming (SR) faces the challenges of sintering and carbon deposition induced deactivation of catalysts. Herein, the strategy for stabilizing trace Rh-promoted Ni-based catalysts by post-coating group IIA metal oxide is proposed. The stabilities for catalytic n-dodecane SR are as followed: Mg-Rh-Ni-CZO > Sr-Rh-Ni-CZO > Ba-Rh-Ni-CZO ti Ca-Rh-Ni-CZO Rh-Ni-CZO. The reduction suppression of Rh-Ni by alkaline-earth metal oxide and the formation of Mg-O-Ni bonds in Mg-Rh-Ni-CZO are demonstrated by TPR and EXAFS techniques. The TEM and TGA characterization results confirm that IIA metal oxide inhibit Ni sintering, in turn decreasing the carbon deposition amount and graphitic carbon proportion. Negligible Ni sintering and low carbon deposition (0.7 mg/g-cat.center dot mmol-C12H26) occurs in Mg-Rh-Ni-CZO after SR at 700 degrees C for 50 h. Contrarily, the MgO-precoated Rh-Ni-Mg-CZO do not exhibit improved catalytic performance owing to the correlation between sintering and coking behaviors with interfacial structures.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc.
