Abstract:Objective:To study the differences in the fit factors of two commonly used types of medical respirators and the influences on the fitness by different characteristics of the population, so as to provide guidance for scientific selection and wearing protective medical respirators. Methods:A total of 350 medical workers from 10 medical institutions of different levels and types in Beijing were selected to collect basic information. The fit factors of 2 types of medical protective respirators, type 9132 from 3M and type D918 from Beijing Sinovo, were tested using a TSI instrument for the evaluation of the influence on fitness by different populational characters. Results:The pass rates of the two types of respirator, 3M 9132 and Sinovo D918 in the fitness test were 25.43% and 81.14%, respectively. The influences on fitness by the actions between the two respirators were different. Head moving up and down showed the lowest pass rate (27.71% for 3M and 16% for Sinovo). For 3M 9132 respirator, the differences in fit factors caused by BMI and gender were statistically significant ( P<0.01). Conclusions:Different types of medical protective respirators had different fit factors for different individuals and related to population characteristics. Individual BMI could be a criterion for selecting medical protective respirators. The choices should be made after fitness evaluation.
