Abstract:The reaction of alkynylzirconates with α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds has been achieved. Reactions of alkynylzirconates with cinnamates afford ester-functionalized multisubstituted dienes, in which the C3 attacks cinnamates via Michael addition. Reactions of alkynylzirconates with benzylideneacetone give (1E,3Z)-dienes, in which benzylideneacetone acts as an electrophile to afford a proton.

Abstract:A novel method for the zirconoarylation of alkynes was developed. TCQ-promoted reductive elimination of arylzirconate [LiCp2ZrAr(RC≡CR)], which was prepared by the reaction of zirconocene-alkyne complexes with aryllithium compounds, afforded trisubstituted alkenylzirconocenes. This reaction can afford multi-substituted olefins with high stereoselectivity.

Abstract:Reaction of zirconacyclopentadienes with one equiv or two equiv of aryl iodides in the presence of CuCl and DMPU afforded mono-arylated diene derivatives in high yields with high selectivities. Treatment of zirconacyclopentadienes with one equiv of 2-thienyl iodide similarly gave thienyldienes in the presence of CuCl and DMPU, whereas the reaction with two equiv of 2-thienyl iodide produced thienyl iododiene derivatives in high yields. Zirconacyclopentadienes reacted with two equiv of alkynyl iodides to give iododienynes in good yields in the presence of CuCl. This is in sharp contrast to the reaction with two equiv of alkynyl iodides in the presence of CuCl and DMPU which provides dienediynes.

Abstract:Bis(alkynyl)silanes react with low valent zirconocene species to afford zircon cyclobutene intermediates. These in situ generated reactive organometallic intermediates can react with alkynes, ketones, aldehydes, and isocyanates by means of a novel skeletal rearrangement. When a zirconacy-clobutene intermediate was treated with an alkyne, an alpha-alkynylsilyl zirco-nacyclopentadiene was formed. Addition of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) and CuCl resulted in one-pot formation of an alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative from three different alkynes. At a higher temperature, the alpha-alkynyl-silylzirconacyclopentadiene was transformed by means of an intramolecular skeletal rearrangement to a zirconacy-clohexadiene-silacyclobutene fused-ring compound, which reacted with DMAD in the presence of CuCl affording the same alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative. When treated with a ketone, an aldehdye, or an isocyanate, the zirconocyclobutene intermediate also underwent the above-mentioned skeletal rearrangement, generating zirconocene-mediated cross-coupling products.

Abstract:Aldol condensation of cycloketone(s) is an efficient reaction path to synthesize polycyclic compounds via C-C bond formation. In this work, aldol condensation of cyclopentanone and/or cyclohexanone over monoclinic ZrO2 has been investigated by combination of experiments and DFT calculations. Both self condensation and cross-condensation of cyclopentanone and/or cyclohexanone were carried out at 130 degrees C in a solvent-free condition under atmospheric pressure. Reactant selectivity and product distribution were analyzed. DFT calculations were performed to investigate the mechanism and reactant selectivity of cycloketone condensation on ZrO2, showing the favored cross-condensation between cyclopentanone and cyclohexanone is ascribed to the formation of a metastable state of a seven membered ring that lowers activation barrier during C-C bond formation. Abstract:Zirconacyclopentadienes reacted with acetylenecarboxylates in the presence of a stoichiometric amount (2 equiv) of copper chloride to give benzene derivatives in high yields along with the formation of a copper mirror on the wall of the reaction vessel. Reactions of unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadienes prepared from two different alkynes with acetylenecarboxylates gave benzene derivatives from three different alkynes in high yields with high selectivities. Preparation of unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadienes and benzene derivatives formation can be done in one-pot, The structure of the reaction product of the unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadiene having a trimethylsilyl group and a methyl group in the alpha- and beta-position, respectively, with acetylenedicarboxylate was determined by X-ray analysis. It indicated that the regiochemistry of those substituents was maintained during the reaction. When the coupling reaction of zirconacyclopentadienes with acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of copper chloride was carried out at -78 degrees C, linear trienes were obtained as the intermediates in high yields after hydrolysis. Warming the mixture without hydrolysis gave the desired benzene derivatives in high yields. Use of an unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadiene afforded a mixture of two isomers of the linear triene as intermediates after hydrolysis. When the mixture of the two isomers was warmed to room temperature without hydrolysis, both isomers gave the same benzene derivative. In the presence of a catalytic amount of copper chloride (10 mol %), this cycloaddition proceeded to give benzene derivatives in good yields without formation of the copper mirror. The reaction under the catalytic conditions at -78 degrees C also gave a linear triene after hydrolysis.

Abstract:2,5-Bis(alkynylsilyl)-1-zirconacyclopentadienes 3 were formed highly regio- and chemoselectively in excellent yield by the homocoupling reaction of 2 equiv of bis(alkynyl)silanes 1 mediated by a low-valent zirconocene species (Negishi reagent) generated in situ from Cp2ZrBu2. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis of 2,5-bis(phenylalkynyldimethylsilyl)-1-zirconacyclopentadiene (3a) revealed a sandwich-type conformation. Hydrolysis or halogenation of these zirconacyclopentadienes 3 afforded multisubstituted stereodefined Si-bridged conjugated systems. Skeletal rearrangement of these 2,5-bis(alkynylsilyl)-1-zirconacyclopentadienes with aromatic substituents afforded zirconacyclohexadiene−silacyclobutene fused ring compounds 4. Using these zirconacyclopentadienes 3 as starting reactive organometallic reagents, interesting cyclic compounds such as bis(alkynylsilyl)benzene derivatives and bis(alkynylsilyl)thiophene derivatives could be prepared in high yield. Further applications of these alkynylsilyl-substituted compounds for more complicated products and functional materials can be expected.

Abstract:A systematic theoretical study of rhodium-catalyzed allylic alkylation reactions using hard benzylzinc nucleophiles was performed. The mechanisms were investigated in detail together with the regioselectivity associated with the branched and linear pathways and the intriguing anti - (as opposed to syn -) diastereoselectivity of this process. The preferred mechanism was found to be initiated by the oxidative addition of the rhodium(I) complex followed by migration of the benzyl nucleophile to the Rh center. The subsequent nucleophilic addition of a benzyl group to the η 3 -allyl moiety takes place via the formation of a new C–C bond to afford the final allylic benzylation product. This proposed mechanism readily explains the experimental observation that the products obtained from such reactions are branched (as opposed to linear) with an anti -configuration (as opposed to a syn -configuration). This work also provides reasons for the lower regioselectivity observed for a OCO 2 t Bu leaving group or cyanophenyl/secondary amide substituents at the 4-position of the substrate. The present study is expected to assist in the rational design of potential substrates for analogous reactions.

Abstract:Herein, a palladium-catalyzed 1,3-alkynyl migration of allylic alcohol for the synthesis of β-alkynyl ketone was described. This intramolecular rearrangement reaction demonstrated an enhanced reactivity compared to the traditional intermolecular alkynylation by circumventing the dimerization of alkynes, exhibiting a specific selectivity toward β-alkynyl elimination. Moreover, this reaction featured wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and 100% atom economy.
