Abstract:Remarkable progress has been made on chelation-assisted α and β C–H functionalization of aryl alkenes; however, there is no report on C–H allylation reactions. This work focuses on the first α and β C–H allylation of aryl alkenes using allyl carbonates to produce linear and branched 1,4-dienes enabled by chelation-assistance of pyridine-2-carboxamide, simply performed with Pd(OAc) 2 /AcOH in ethanol. This operationally simple protocol exhibited wide functionality tolerance and broad substrate scope and enabled successful gram-scaled preparation.

Abstract:Novel strategy for acid chlorides formation that do not use carboxylic acids is particularly attractive in chemical synthesis but remains challenging. Herein, we reported the development of a highly effective Pd-catalyzed hydrochlorocarbonylation of alkenes with CO for the formation of alkyl acid chlorides. Chlorosilane and AcOH were found as a mild HCl source for the reaction. The reaction shows broad substrate scope and produces both branched and linear alkyl acid chlorides in good to high yields upon different ligands and solvents. Cooperating with follow-up acylation reactions, the Pd-catalyzed hydrochlorocarbonylation offers a complementary platform for the synthesis of diverse carbonyl compounds from alkenes. Mechanistic investigations suggested that the reaction proceeded though a palladium hydride pathway, and CO prompted reductive elimination of the acyl-Pd-Cl intermediate.

Abstract:An enantioselective multicomponent carbonyl allylation reaction of 1,3-butadienes, alkynyl bromides and aldehydes has been established, leading to the generation of densely functionalized homoallylic alcohols in high levels of structural diversity and stereoselectivity. The multicomponent process sequentially comprises the oxidative addition, salt metathesis, insertion/π-allyl-Pd formation, asymmetric allylic borylation, and enantioslecitve carbonyl allylborylation, wherein the alkynyl palladium phosphate in situ generated from the chiral silver phosphate and the alkynyl palladium bromide turns out to be a key intermediate that allows the efficient stereochemical control.

Abstract:A practical palladium catalyzed allylation condensation of allyl alcohols with hydrazines and aldehydes was developed, enabling the syntheses of various allylhydrazones in high yields with excellent regioselectivities. The efficient catalytic system enabled the utilization of allylhydrazones as practical substrates in palladium catalyzed carbonylation to synthesize various allyl acylhydrazones with excellent regioselectivities. Furthermore, four-component carbonylation syntheses of allyl acylhydrazones in same catalytic system promoted the transformation of weakly nucleophilic hydrazines and -zones.

Abstract:A cooperative Rh(II)/Pd(0) dual-catalysis strategy that enabled divergent reactions of α-diazo 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with allylic carbonates involving ketene versus carbene intermediates is described. The efficient synthesis of α-quaternary allylated β-keto-esters was accomplished by the Rh(II)/Pd(0) dual-catalysis allylic alkylation of α-diazo 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. Alternatively, an unprecedented (1+4) annulation of α-diazo 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with 2-(hydroxymethyl)allyl carbonates via Rh(II)/Pd(0) dual catalysis was also successfully developed, affording a wide variety of α-quaternary tetrahydrofurans in good to high yields.

Abstract:The palladium-catalysed allylic substitution reaction is one of the most important reactions in transition-metal catalysis and has been well-studied in the past decades. Most of the reactions proceed through an outer-sphere mechanism, affording linear products when monosubstituted allyl reagents are used. Here, we report an efficient Palladium-catalysed protocol for reactions of β-substituted ketones with monosubstituted allyl substrates, simply by using N-heterocyclic carbene as ligand, leading to branched products with up to three contiguous stereocentres in a (syn, anti)-mode with excellent regio and diastereoselectivities. The scope of the protocol in organic synthesis has been examined preliminarily. Mechanistic studies by both experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the reaction proceeds via an inner-sphere mechanism-nucleophilic attack of enolate oxygen on Palladium followed by C-C bond-forming [3,3']-reductive elimination.
