Abstract:A series of YGa1.5Al1.5(BO3)(4): Tb3+, Eu3+ inorganic luminescence materials were successfully synthesized through a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the crystal structure and phase purity of the obtained samples. Then, scanning electron microscopy elemental mapping was taken to characterize the distribution of the doped ions. Detailed investigations on the photoluminescence emission and excitation spectra and fluorescence lifetime revealed that trivalent europium ions can be well sensitized by trivalent terbium ions under near-ultraviolet excitation. Additionally, the energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ can be controlled to realize multi-colour emissions covering the green to red visible region. Concentration quenching does not take place in Tb3+ or Eu3+ singularly-doped YGAB due to its structure isolation. Therefore, satisfactory luminescence properties related to the structure specificity make these phosphors suitable for WLEDs.

Abstract:The shift of the emission band to longer wavelength (yellow-orange) of the Ba2MgSi2−xAlxO7: 0.1Eu2+ phosphor under the 350–450nm excitation range has been achieved by adding the codoping element (Mn2+) in the host. The single-host silicate phosphor for WLED, Ba2MgSi2−xAlxO7: 0.1Eu2+, 0.1Mn2+ was prepared by high-temperature solid-state reaction. It was found experimentally that, its three-color emission peaks are situated at 623, 501 and 438nm, respectively, under excitation of 350–450nm irradiation. The emission peaks at 438 and 501nm originate from the transition 5d to 4f of Eu2+ ions that occupy the two Ba2+ sites in the crystal of Ba2MgSi2−x AlxO7, while the 623nm emission is attributed to the energy transfer from Eu2+ ions to Mn2+ ions. The white light can be obtained by mixing the three emission colors of blue (438nm), green (501nm) and red (623nm) in the single host. When the concentrations of the Al3+, Eu2+ and Mn2+ ions were 0.4, 0.1 and 0.1mol, respectively, the sample presented intense white emission. The addition of Al ion to the host leads to a substantial change of intensity ratio between blue and green emissions. White light could be obtained by combining this phosphor with 405nm light-emitting diodes. The near-ultraviolet GaN-based Ba2MgSi1.7 Al0.3O7: 0.1Eu2+, 0.1Mn2+ LED achieves good color rendering of over 85.

Abstract:In order to investigate the impact of rare earth (Tb3+/Eu3+) ion doping on the luminescent properties of LiYGeO4, a series of LiYGeO4: 30%Tb3+, yEu3+ (0.0% ≤ y ≤ 1.0%) phosphors were successfully prepared using the solid-state reacthion in this work. The analysis revealed that Tb3+/Eu3+ ions were successfully doped into the LiYGeO4 lattice, confirmed by of X-ray diffractometer (XRD) patterns, Rietveld refinement, and element distribution results. The LiYGeO4: 30%Tb3+, yEu3+ samples exhibit efficient excitation by both ultraviolet (378 nm) and blue light (482 nm). Furthermore, the luminescence intensity, quantum yield, and thermal stability under 378 nm excitation were found to be greater than those under 482 nm excitation. Increasing the concentration of Eu3+ ion doping resulted in an energy transfer from the green region to the yellow region and finally to the orange red region, as evidenced by the Commission Internationale de L′Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of LiYGeO4: 30%Tb3+, yEu3+ phosphors. The white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) prepared utilizing LiYGeO4: 30%Tb3+, 0.75%Eu3+ phosphor shows a high color rendering index (Ra) of ∼93.2, a low correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5134 K, emitting bright natural light. This study helps to understand the mechanism of energy transfer, improves the luminescent material system of LiYGeO4, and provides new ideas and options for designing a high-performing lighting sources.

Abstract:Using the solid-state reaction method, Ce3+,Tb3+-coactivated Si5AlON7 (Si6-zAlzOzN8-z, z=1) phosphors were successfully synthesized. The obtained phosphors exhibit high absorption and strong excitation bands in the wavelength range of 240-440nm, matching well with the light emitting-diode (LED) chip. The ET from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions in Si5AlON7:Ce3+,Tb3+ has been studied and demonstrated by the luminescence spectra and decay curves. Moreover, the phosphors show tunable emissions from blue to green by tuning the relative ratio of the Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions. Thermal quenching properties of Si5AlON7:Ce3+,Tb3+ had also been investigated and the quenching temperature is similar to 190 degrees C. These results show that Si5AlON7:Ce3+,Tb3+ could be a promising candidate for a single-phased color-tunable phosphor applied in UV-chip pumped LEDs.

Abstract:A novel Sr3YNa(PO4)3F:Tb3+, Eu3+ phosphor was prepared by high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The optical properties and luminescence mechanism were investigated in detail. The emission spectra and lifetime curve of Sr3Y0.92-yNa(PO4)3F:0.08Tb3+, yEu3+ phosphors indicate that there is efficient energy transfer between Tb3+ and Eu3+, and the mechanism is confirmed as dipole–quadrupole interaction. By adjusting the Tb3+, Eu3+ doping ratio, Sr3Y0.8Na(PO4)3F:0.08Tb3+, 0.12Eu3+ showed warm white light at color coordinates (0.3244, 0.3316). White light evidently relates to visible range.

Abstract:A series of Ca3Y(GaO)(3)(BO3)(4):Tb3+,Eu3+ phosphors were prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Their phase structures were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction and the element distribution was measured using transmission electron microscopy elemental mapping. The photoluminescen ce emission and excitation spectra and fluorescence lifetime were studied and discussed in detail. The results revealed that Eu3+ ions can be efficiently sensitized by Tb3+ ions under near-UV excitation. In addition, the energy transfer efficiency can be controlled by adjusting the ratio of Eu3+ and Tb3+ to realize colour tunable emission from green to red. For Ca3Y(GaO)(3)(BO3)(4): 0.50Tb(3+),0.10Eu(3+), the emission intensity at 425 K is 78.11% of that at 300 K, being available to near-UV LEDs.

Abstract:The La 3 Ga 5 SiO 14 based phosphors were generated by substitutions of Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ to La 3+ . The Tb 3+ → Eu 3+ energy transfer occurs in Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ codoped phosphors. The La 2.70 Eu 0.12 Tb 0.18 Ga 5 Si 14 phosphor shows an internal quantum yield about 88.82%.

Abstract:A novel white long persistent phosphor of Y3Al2Ga3O12:Tb3+ was prepared by the soft chemical method. Y3Al2Ga3O12:Tb3+ presented a white long persistent luminescence when the doping concentration of Tb3+ was just 0.1% and the afterglow time was able to last more than 2 h. The persistent emission of Tb3+ in Y3Al2Ga3O12 consisted of all color emissions in the visible spectrum from an identical luminescent center (Tb3+); meanwhile, the white-light color won't vary as the afterglow time goes on. The mystery behind this phenomenon was studied deeply including trap depths, distribution and types. The trap depths was calculated from 0.65 to 1.15 eV by the initial rise method analysis, highly corresponding to the ideal energy for trapping and releasing at room temperature. What's more, the estimated trap structure was proved to be a continuous trap distribution by varying the thermal cleaning temperature. The persistent luminescence mechanism of Y3Al2Ga3O12:Tb3+ was illustrated and discussed in detail on the basis of the experimental results. Abstract:Luminescence behavior of Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA co-doped gel has been investigated. The excitation and emission spectra of the EuCl3 and thenoyltrifluoroacetone co-doped gel appeared to exhibit intramolecular energy transfer from the coordinated thenoyltrifluoroacetonate to the europium ions, and the luminescence behavior of sulphosalicylic acid and TbCl3 co-doped gel also indicated the synthesis of TbSSA in the gel. The luminescence behavior of x% Eu(TTFA)3 and (1–x)% TbSSA (x=0–1) co-doped gel changed significantly with the ratio of Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA. By adjusting the ratio of the Eu(TTFA)3 and TbSSA in the gel, the luminescence of different colors which resulted from the mixture of the emission bands of Eu3+ ions and Tb3+ ions can be observed.

Abstract:In this study, a series of Al3+ co-doped Tb3Ga5O12:Eu3+ orange light-emitting phosphors was synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. At an excitation wavelength of 379 nm, all samples exhibited strong orange light emissions at 592 nm. This could be attributed to the dominance of the 5D0/7F1 transition of Eu3+ ions, indicating that the Eu3+ ions were located at highly symmetrical sites in the host lattice. In order to improve the luminescence performance of Tb3Ga5O12:Eu3+, the effect of Al3+ ion doping on the crystal structure and luminescence properties of Tb3Ga5O12:Eu3+ were studied. It was found that Al3+ doping could significantly improve the emission intensity of Tb3Ga5O12:Eu3+. With an increase in Al3+ doping concentration, the intensity increased to a maximum and then decreased. At x = 0.6 with Tb3Ga5-xAlxO12:Eu3+, the luminescence intensity reached the maximum value, which is 2.07 times of Tb3Ga5O12:Eu3+. In addition, the Tb3Ga4.4Al0·6O12:Eu3+ phosphor demonstrated good thermal stability with activation energy of 0.244 eV, and its quantum efficiency was as high as 95.6%. In summary, an orange light-emitting diode device was manufactured, indicating that Tb3Ga5-xAlxO12:Eu3+ orange light-emitting phosphors have potential applications by combination with near-ultraviolet LED devices.

Abstract:Preliminary studies were conducted on Eu3+, Tb3+ or Bi3+ doped Y2Ge2O7, Y2GeO5 and Y4GeO8 phosphors. Both photoluminescence and cathodoluminescent properties of the materials were measured. Among these materials, the luminescent intensities of Y2Ge2O7:Eu, Y2GeO5:Tb and Y2Ge2O7:Bi are relatively high and the luminescent colors of them are red, green and blue, respectively. In order to improve the luminescent properties for field emission display applications, further optimization is necessary. In addition, X-ray powder diffraction results indicate that Y4GeO8 phase forms in an orthorhombic unit cell, the parameters of which are: a=1.4976(5)nm, b=0.9357(6)nm, c=0.5885(3)nm, Vcell=0.82467(2)nm3.

Abstract:Tb3+/Eu2+,3+-doped zinc aluminoborosilicate glasses were prepared using a conventional high temperature melt-quenching method. Infrared spectra and physical properties of as-prepared glasses verified that the addition of Tb/Eu causes structural weakness in the glass. Tuning of blue, green, and red emission bands achieves white light for the zinc aluminoborosilicate glasses. The broad blue emission band is attributed to the 5d-4f transition of Eu2+ due to partial reduction of Eu3+ during calcination in ambient atmosphere. The reduction of Eu3+ is related to the formation of Eu Zn • and V Zn '' defects and host alkalinity decreases with the addition of Eu3+. Emission spectra and decay curves confirm energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ in the zinc aluminoborosilicate glasses, and relative intensities of green and red luminescence can be tuned through concentrations changes of Tb3+ and Eu2+,3+. When the concentrations of Tb3+ and Eu2+,3+ are equal to 6% and 1.2%, respectively, a neutral white light emitting glass is obtained. Furthermore, the white-emitting glass shows very high thermal stability compared to a commercial Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ phosphor. Therefore, luminescence tuning of glasses through changing activator concentrations and energy transfer is expected to achieve high-powered white LEDs.

Preparation and Luminescence Properties of Al18B4O33:Eu,Tb Phosphor

Abstract:Al18B4O33: Eu,Tb phosphor were synthesized by sol-gel method using citric acid as a complex agent.The properties were studied with various analytical measures.TG-DTA,XRD and SEM results indicated that the synthesized phosphors were full Al18B4O33 crystal calcined at 1100 ℃ and the phosphor powders were uniform in diameter,about 5 μm.As a result of the charges transfer of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions,Eu2+,Eu3+,Tb3+ and Tb4+ ions coexisted in the phosphors Al18B4O33:Eu,Tb.The excitation spectra of the two phosphors consisted of strong peaks from 350 to 400 nm,hence,the phosphors Al18B4O33: Eu,Tb was fit for UVLED.Owing to the sensitization of Tb3+ ions to Eu3+ ions,the adjustment of the doping contents of Eu and Tb could change the luminescent intensity and colourity of the phosphors.

Abstract:In this article, we report the luminescent properties and energy transfer behavior of Tb and Eu in aluminosilicate and zinc silicate glasses. Both glass systems exhibit a combination of blue, green, and red emissions. The optical absorption spectra provide an evidence of the reduction reaction of Eu3+ ions in aluminosilicate glasses and it proves that the aluminosilicate glasses may be more promising for producing white light due to the existing blue light emission of Eu2+ ions. The emission and lifetime measurements reveal the energy transfer is from Tb3+ (5D4) to Eu3+ (5D1) by the quadrupole–quadrupole interaction between these two ions. The calculated energy transfer efficiency is up to 32.1% in zinc silicate glasses.

Abstract:Tb3+ and Eu3+ doped La4GeO8 multicolor emitting phosphors were synthesized. A systematic investigation was done into the photoluminescence properties of La4GeO8:Tb3+,Eu3+. Energy transfer from trivalent terbium to europium ions in La4GeO8 results from quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The variable temperature emission spectra ranging from 303 to 513 K were used to demonstrate the thermal stability of La4GeO8:0.07Tb3+,0.01Eu3+ phosphor. The obtained activation energies for trivalent terbium and europium ions were 0.186 eV and 0.187 eV, separately. By altering the content ratio of Eu3+ to Tb3+, the La4GeO8:Tb3+,Eu3+ phosphors can achieve multicolor luminescence and tunable chromaticity from green (0.3416, 0.5423) to red (0.6479, 0.349) under 265 nm light excitation. The findings suggest that La4GeO8:Tb3+,Eu3+ are promising phosphors for solid-state lighting application.

Abstract:An innovative green emitting novel BaY 1 − x Tb x Al 3 O 7 ( x = 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, and 0.06) was synthesized using urea combustion, which was a low-energy process. Using techniques such as photoluminescence (PL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, the structure and luminous properties of the phosphor were investigated. Scherrer's equation was utilized in the XRD technique to determine the crystallite size of the suggested materials. When stimulated with the near-ultraviolet photon, PL spectra revealed intense green emission at 541 nm ( 5 D 4 → 7 F 5 ). The composition with the maximum emission intensity is BaY 0.96 Tb 0.04 Al 3 O 7 . The dipole–dipole mechanism for concentration quenching events was identified with the help of the critical energy transfer distance. The non-radiative relaxation rate (276 s − 1 ), radiative lifetime (0.75754 ms), and quantum efficiency (79%), of the ideal phosphor composition are calculated using Auzel's model. The color coordinates (0.260, 0.496) align with the emission of green light. The remarkable outcomes validated the significance of the targeted nanocrystals as a superior material with prospective applications in solid-state down-converted white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs).
