Abstract:As organocatalysts, organic base catalysts play an important role in the quest for optically pure compounds. Chiral iminophosphoranes, being organosuperbases, are very stable under air and moisture conditions, thereby providing an attractive platform for the design of various asymmetric organocatalysts. The recent achievements concerning chiral iminophosphoranes in the development of both organocatalysis and their applications in asymmetric synthesis are summarized and discussed.

Abstract:On account of the broad utilities of organophosphorus compounds, the development of highly efficient and concise phosphination methods is significantly important and urgent. Herein, we disclose a novel method for the synthesis of phosphorylated heterocycles: versatile intermediate propargylamines serving as a new type of radical acceptors incorporated in P-radicals via a photocatalytic strategy. This reaction proceeds through a cascade phosphinoylation/ cyclization/oxidation/aromatization pathway using readily available starting materials under mild conditions of light with excellent atom economy, catalyzed by AgOAc or fac-Ir(ppy)(3). One of the phosphorylated quinolines was selected, as an example, as an electron-transporting material for fabricating phosphorescence organic light-emitting diodes displaying excellent electroluminescence performances with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 21.9% with negligible efficiency roll-off ratios.

Abstract:A sustainable strategy by internally recycling an organocatalyst as a reactant in a downstream reaction to improve the atom efficiency of organocatalytic tandem reactions is described. Specifically, a one-pot tandem Cloke-Wilson/Boulton-Katritzky reaction of cyclopropylketones with a hydroxylamine has been developed for the synthesis of fully substituted isoxazoles, in which the hydroxylamine serves as both an upstream catalyst and a downstream reactant.

Abstract:The highly regio- and enantioselective iron-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydroboration of 1,1-disubstituted aryl alkenes is reported by using a novel chiral iminopyridine oxazoline (IPO) ligand, in which the iminopyridine group is proposed to stabilize the iron and chiral oxazoline group to control enantioselectivity. This distinct class of reactive IPO ligands will likely be of high value for a large variety of asymmetric transformations using first-row transition metals.

Abstract:Asymmetric organocatalysts has been increasingly recognized as an important green alternative the highly-developed asymmetric transition metal catalysis and biotransformation. However, organocatalysis is just in its infancy and has many limitations such low efficiency and limited substrate scopes. We presented herein a novel strategy to address the above challenges by incorporating ionic-liquid moieties as building blocks for organocatalysts. The chiral ionic-liquid (CIL) organocatalysts still maintained the unique properties of ionic liquid, and meanwhile, served as efficient catalyst for judiciously selected reactions. The CIL organocatalysts were shown to be highly efficient and stereoselective catalysts for asymmetric Michael additions. By simple swap of the ionic liquid anion with a surfactant anion, a highly efficient catalysis was realized for the first time in pure water.

Some of the most broadly used chiral organocatalysts are BINOL-derived chiral phosphoric acids, making it necessary to develop efficient recycling strategies. While literature reports require up to 13 synthetic steps to access recyclable chiral phosphoric acids, here we report a general and concise 9-step approach to anthracene decorated heterogeneous chiral phosphoric acids (PS-Anth), which have shown high performance either in batch or continuous flow without observing catalyst degradation.

Abstract:The first immobilization of recyclable Taniaphos/copper(I) complex on a commercial accessible silica by thiol-ene coupling reaction has been achieved. The immobilization strategy and linker length are found to have significant impact on catalyst selectivities. Furthermore, we have realized the first heterogeneous asymmetric allylic alkylation reactions involving organometallic reagents using this catalyst system, and three types of cinnamyl bromide substrates are found to be suitable with up to 95% enantioselectivity and 96% yield. Notably, the catalyst shows good stability and cyclicity after five recycles without loss of selectivity and the products can be easily isolated with > 95% purity without chromatography purification. Abstract:Optimizing lanthanide catalyst performance with organic ligands often encounters significant challenges, including susceptibility to water or oxygen and complex synthesis pathways. To address these issues, our research focuses on developing inorganic lanthanide clusters with enhanced stability and functionality. In this study, we introduce the [Sm6O(OH)8(H2O)24]I8(H2O)8 cluster (Sm-OC) as a sustainable and efficient catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of thiols under heating conditions. The Sm-OC catalyst demonstrated remarkable stability, outstanding recyclability, and excellent chemoselectivity across a diverse range of functional groups in 38 different tests. Notably, it enables efficient unsymmetrical disulfide synthesis and prevents the formation of over-oxidized by-products, highlighting its superior performance. This Sm-OC catalyst provides a practical and robust tool for the precise construction of versatile disulfides, thus establishing a template for the broader use of lanthanide clusters in organic synthesis.
