Abstract:[Cp*Co(CO)I2] effectively catalyzes pyridyl‐directed C‐H allylation of arenes with allylic amines in the presence of AgOAc and CF3COOAg. The reaction features ortho‐position monoallylation of 2‐pyridylarenes, giving the allylated arenes in moderate to high yields. A range of functional groups including OMe, Me, Ph, F, Cl, Br, CF3, C(O)Me, COOEt, and COOH groups are tolerated. Pyrimidyl‐directed C‐H allylation of arenes were also performed under the same conditions. Reaction of 2‐phenylpyrimidine, 2‐(4‐methoxyphenyl)pyrimidine, and 2‐(3‐fluorophenyl)pyrimidine leads to a mixture of ortho‐position mono‐ and bisallylation products. Reaction of other 2‐(substituted aryl)pyrimidines resulted in ortho‐position monoallylation products.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A cobalt(II)-catalyzed C2-H carbonylation of indoles with amines toward indole-2-carboxamides has been developed. By employing Co(OAc)(2)·4H(2)O as an inexpensive catalyst and using benzene-1,3,5-triyl triformate (TFBen) as the CO surrogate, a variety of indole-2-carboxamide derivatives were produced in moderate to high yields. Additionally, several bioactive-molecule-related compounds can be applied as substrates, as well.

Abstract:Efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation of different classes of (hetero)-arenes such as 2-phenylpyridine, indoles, aryl ketones and acetanilide and their dehydrogenative cross-coupling with allylic alcohols are described. Several important skeletons such as beta-aryl aldehydes and ketones, 2-acetylindenes, 3,4-dihydro-1H-quinolin-2-one and quinoline could be produced using this protocol.

Abstract:A cobalt(III)-catalyzed C-2 selective C–H alkynylation of indoles using hypervalent iodine-alkyne reagents is described. A broad range of synthetically useful functional groups (−F, −Cl, −Br, −CO2Me, −CN) were tolerated, providing an efficient and robust protocol for the synthesis of C-2 alkynylated indoles. The pyrimidyl and silyl protecting groups could be easily removed to give the corresponding 2-ethynyl-1H-indole.

Abstract:Abstract A cobalt– N -heterocyclic carbene catalyst allows ortho-alkylation of aromatic imines with unactivated primary and secondary alkyl chlorides and bromides under room-temperature conditions. The scope of the reaction encompasses or complements that of cobalt-catalyzed ortho-alkylation reactions with olefins as alkylating agents that we developed previously. Stereochemical outcomes of secondary alkylation reactions suggest that the reaction involves single-electron transfer from a cobalt species to the alkyl halide to generate the corresponding alkyl radical. A cycloalkylated product obtained by this method can be transformed into unique spirocycles through manipulation of the directing group and the cycloalkyl groups.

Abstract:An efficient protocol for the cobalt-catalyzed acyloxylation of arenes and alkenes with the assistance of an 8-aminoquinolyl auxiliary group is reported. In this transformation, benzoic acids, alkenyl acids, and aliphatic acids could be readily involved to afford structurally diverse esters. It is worth noting that the silver sulfate (Ag2SO4) oxidant is renewable and the directing group could be removed and recycled. The strategy represents the first successful example of transition metal-catalyzed acyloxylation of alkenyl carboxamides C(sp(2))-H bonds with carboxylic acids.

Abstract:A novel cobalt-catalyzed C-H alkylation of arenes and olefins is achieved with (pyridin-2-yl)isopropyl amine as an N, N-bidentate directing group. Different linear, branched, and cyclic alkyl ethers were used as practical secondary alkylating reagents through cleavage of C(sp3)-O bond, providing an efficient approach to the synthesis of verstile o-alkylated arylamides and tetrasubstituted acrylamides. Mechanistic studies indicate that cleavage of the inert C(sp3)-O bond involves a cobalt-promoted radical process and that cleavage of the inert C(sp2)-H bond by a cobalt catalyst is a rate-limiting step.
