Abstract:A cobalt and copper catalyzed reaction protocol has been developed to achieve the oxidative C-H/N-H annulation of benzamides containing an 8-aminoquinoline moiety as the directing group with ketones. Structurally diverse isoindolin-1-ones were furnished by the reaction of various substituent benzamides with ketones.

Abstract:C-H/N-O functionalizations by cobalt(III) catalysis allowed the expedient synthesis of a broad range of isoquinolines. Thus, internal and challenging terminal alkynes proved to be viable substrates for an isohypsic annulation, which was shown to proceed by a facile C-H cobaltation.

Abstract:Asymmetric expansion: A catalytic asymmetric ring-expansion reaction of the title compounds occurs in the presence of a Sc(OTf)(3) catalyst bearing an N,N'-dioxide-based ligand. Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp(3)) - H bond aminocarbonylation of 8-methylquinolines and isocyanates has been realized under mild conditions. This approach is applicable to different aryl and alkyl isocyanates, leading to the synthesis of various alpha-quinolinyl amide compounds in moderate to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed according to the experimental results obtained.

Abstract:A wide range of isoquinoline ring-modified Quinap oxides with different steric and electronic variations have been constructed through a palladium-catalyzed imidoylative cyclization of arylethenyl isocyanides with 2-diphenylphosphinyl-1-naphthyl bromides. The Pd-catalysis plays dual roles in the formation of both axial C–C bond and isoquinoline ring. This de novo synthetic strategy features good functional group tolerance, high yields and easy scale-up, providing Quinap derivatives with substitution patterns that could not be obtained using coupling reactions. Chiral ligands 7 and 12 can be readily prepared by transformation of the resulting Quinap oxide to their BINOL esters, and have been proven to be superb chiral ligands for the copper-catalyzed enantioselective A3-coupling and alkynylation of quinoline reactions. In general, the enantioselectivies obtained using ligands 7 and 12 are excellent, and the ee values are higher than those using Quinap as ligand, even three times higher in some cases. Mechanism studies revealed that a monomeric copper(I) complex bearing a single chiral ligand was formed and served as the catalytically active species.

Abstract:We have developed cobalt-catalyzed, bidentate 2-(1-methylhydrazinyl)pyridine (MHP)-directed C(sp(2))-H alkylation/ annulation of benzoic hydrazides with various alkenes. Notably, diverse cyclopenta[c]isoquinolinones and dihydroisoquinolinones were obtained via this functional group-tolerant protocol. The reaction can be performed on a gram scale while maintaining an excellent yield, and the directing group can be removed efficiently under mild conditions. Furthermore, density-functional theory (DFT) calculations provide an incisive understanding of the observed regioselectivities for different olefins.

Abstract:Aromatic heterocycles have been identified as effective directing groups (DGs) in C–H functionalization but can be retained as undesired bulky substituents in the final products. Herein, we report a Co(III)-catalyzed 1-aminoisoquinoline synthesis strategy based on oxadiazole-directed aromatic C–H coupling with alkynes and a subsequent redox-neutral C–N cyclization reaction.
