Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp(3)) - H bond aminocarbonylation of 8-methylquinolines and isocyanates has been realized under mild conditions. This approach is applicable to different aryl and alkyl isocyanates, leading to the synthesis of various alpha-quinolinyl amide compounds in moderate to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed according to the experimental results obtained.

Abstract:A cobalt‐catalyzed annulation of o‐phenylenediamines and internal alkynes for the synthesis of quinoxalines is developed. This method provides a variety of quinoxalines in good to high yields under a simple and mild reaction conditions with molecular O2 as a terminal oxidant. Preliminary mechanistic studies show that a novel reaction mechanism is involved in the current reaction, which is different from the previous reported dicarbonyl compound mechanism via the oxidation of the alkyne.

Abstract:Quinoline synthesis from easily accessible raw materials such as anilines is a valuable and meaningful task. Herein, we communicate an iodide- and silver-mediated C-H/C-H oxidative annulation-aromatization between anilines and allyl alcohols. This protocol provides a direct route to the synthesis of quinoline derivatives from inexpensive commodities. Various kinds of anilines, even heterocyclic anilines, were shown to be workable substrates, generating the corresponding multi-substituted quinolines in good yields.

Abstract:We have developed an efficient annulation of benzamides with allenes using cobalt and photoredox dual catalysis under an oxygen atmosphere. This reaction provides a mild and environmentally friendly method for the construction of isoquinolinone scaffolds in good to excellent yields, demonstrating broad substrate scopes, high regioselectivity, and good functional group compatibility. Notably, the transformation features an alternative strategy for the regeneration of a cobalt catalyst with the aid of Eosin Y. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that a radical-mediated cascade annulation is involved in this reaction.

Abstract:Here we report a novel Rh-catalyzed C-H/C-H alkenylation of <i>N</i>-arylmethanimines with vinylene carbonate acting as a vinylene unit. Forty examples of C3,C4-nonsubstituted quinolines were achieved from commercially available starting materials. This identified process features an exceedingly simple system, a lower loading of catalyst, and the capacity for postfunctionalization with bioactive molecules.

Abstract:The cyclization reaction of allene has attracted considerable attention in recent years because of the unique reactivity and interesting modes of action in the process. However, rare examples have been reported on the annulation with allene via a C-H activation strategy. Here, we report a novel and efficient intermolecular annulation of N-(quinolin-8-yl) benzamide with allenes via cobalt-catalyzed C-H activation. This method provides a shortcut for the preparation of novel isoquinolin-1(2H)-one scaffolds, and both endo-cyclic and exo-cyclic isoquinolinones were respectively prepared in the presence of different bases. In addition, this C-H functionalization proceeds under mild conditions and tolerates a wide range of benzamide substrates, and reactions with terminal as well as internal allenes afforded the corresponding products in up to 88% yield. Furthermore, a new annulation pathway with allene is also presented.

Abstract:An efficient and rapid synthesis of multiply substituted quinolines is described. This method is enabled by a three-component cascade annulation of readily available aryl diazonium salts, nitriles, and alkynes. This reaction is catalyst- and additive-free. Various aryl diazonium salts, nitriles, and alkynes can participate in this transformation, and the yields are up to 83%.
