Abstract:We present a largely analytical theory for two-photon correlations G((2)) between Stokes (s) and anti-Stokes (a) photon pairs from an extended medium (amplifier) composed of double-Lambda atoms in counterpropagating geometry. We generalize the parametric coupled equations with quantum Langevin noise given in a beautiful experimental paper of Balic et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 183601 (2005)] beyond adiabatic approximation and valid for arbitrary strength and detuning of laser fields. We derive an analytical formula for cross correlation G(as)((2)) = < E-s(dagger)(L)E-a(dagger)(0,tau)E-a(0,tau)E-s(L)> and use it to obtain results that are in good quantitative agreement with the experimental data. Results for G(as)((2)) obtained using our coupled equations are in good quantitative agreement with the results using the equations of Balic et al., while perfect agreement is obtained for sufficiently large detuning. We also compute the reverse correlation G(sa)((2)) which turns out to be negligibly small and remains classical while the cross correlation violates the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality by a factor of more than a hundred.
Generalized Quantum Rabi Model with Both One- and Two-Photon Terms: A Concise Analytical Study

Abstract:A generalized quantum Rabi Hamiltonian with both one- and two-photon terms has emerged in the circuit quantum electrodynamics system for a decade. The usual parity symmetry is broken naturally in the simultaneous presence of both couplings, which complicates analytical treatments, even in the rotating wave approximations. In this paper, we propose an adiabatic approximation to this generic model by using Bogoliubov operators, and obtain a very concise analytical solution for both eigenvalues and eigenstates. Although the adiabatic approximation is only exact in the vanishing limit of the qubit frequency, the results for some physical observables nevertheless agree well with the numerical ones in a wide parameter regime. In the rotating-wave approximations, we also derive an analytical eigensolution. Two dominant Rabi frequencies are found in the Rabi oscillations of this generalized model. We also apply the present analytical theory to the vacuum Rabi splitting. It is found that some new phenomena emerge just because of the presence of the additional two-photon coupling term.
Two-photon Rabi Model: Analytic Solutions and Spectral Collapse

Abstract:The two-photon quantum Rabi model is analyzed using the Z(4)-symmetry and su(1, 1)-algebra. We derive the G-function whose zeros give the exact eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian. The singularity structure of the G-function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of these eigenvalues along the real axis and we derive the spectral collapse phenomenon at critical coupling g(c), found numerically before. The spectrum at g(c) consists of a discrete and a continuous part: the ground state is always separated from the continuum by a finite excitation gap, ruling out a quantum phase transition in the usual sense. For large qubit splitting, also other low lying states split off from the continuum. However, perturbation theory predicts the vanishing of the gap to all orders, demonstrating its non-perturbative nature. We corroborate this result with a variational calculation for the ground state.
Multiple Photon Antibunching-to-bunching Transitions in the Dissipative Anisotropic Quantum Rabi Model

Abstract:We investigate the two-photon correlation function in the dissipative anisotropic quantum Rabi model in the framework of quantum dressed master equation. Multiple antibunching-to-bunching transitions are generally exhibited at the deep strong qubit-photon coupling. The emerged additional photon antibunching feature is however lacking in the dissipative isotropic quantum Rabi model. Importantly, the observed two-photon statistics can be well described analytically within a few lowest eigenstates at low temperatures. It is revealed that the additional photon antibunching effect is mainly originated from the selection rule of the two-photon correlation measurement induced eigenstate transitions and the enlarged energy gap of the first two eigenstates after the level crossings. Moreover, we unravel the implication of the photon bunching behavior with the first-order quantum phase transition. We hope these results may fertilize the analysis of the nonclassical photon radiation in the anisotropic qubit-photon hybrid systems.
The Mixed Quantum Rabi Model.

Abstract:The analytical exact solutions to the mixed quantum Rabi model (QRM) including both one- and two-photon terms are found by using Bogoliubov operators. Transcendental functions in terms of 4 × 4 determinants responsible for the exact solutions are derived. These so-called G-functions with pole structures can be reduced to the previous ones in the unmixed QRMs. The zeros of G-functions reproduce completely the regular spectra. The exceptional eigenvalues can also be obtained by another transcendental function. From the pole structure, we can derive two energy limits when the two-photon coupling strength tends to the collapse point. All energy levels only collapse to the lower one, which diverges negatively. The level crossings in the unmixed QRMs are relaxed to avoided crossings in the present mixed QRM due to absence of parity symmetry. In the weak two-photon coupling regime, the mixed QRM is equivalent to an one-photon QRM with an effective positive bias, suppressed photon frequency and enhanced one-photon coupling, which may pave a highly efficient and economic way to access the deep-strong one-photon coupling regime.

Abstract:We study the quantum correlation of photon pairs from a double Raman particle driven by laser fields in a modified photon density of states such as a cavity or a defect in a photonic crystal. We obtain an exact semianalytical expression for the photon correlation, which is characterized by two complex decay functions associated with the levels splitting (effective Rabi frequencies) that depend on the control laser field. The position and width of the cavity density of state with respect to the anti-Stokes transition determine the features in the two-photon correlation profile.

Abstract:A quantum model of the Raman process with the independent Stokes and anti-Stokes nonlinear interactions is developed to study nonclassical correlations between the photons in the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields. The role of the laser pump amplitude, the ratio of the Stokes and anti-Stokes coupling constants and the population and losses of the vibrational mode in forming the correlations is elucidated. The $ g^{(2)} $ intensity cross-correlation function, noise-reduction-factor, two-mode principal squeezing variance, logarithmic negativity, non-classicality depth, steering parameter and the Bell parameter are analyzed side-by-side to shed light to the correlations between the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields. Conditions for having the Stokes and anti-Stokes fields composed of only photon pairs, similarly as it occurs in twin beams in parametric down-conversion, are revealed. They allow for nonzero mean thermal phonon numbers.

Photon-Assisted Landau-Zener Transition: Role of Coherent Superposition States

Abstract:We investigate a Landau-Zener (LZ) transition process modeled by a quantum two-level system (TLS) coupled to a photon mode when the bias energy is varied linearly in time. The initial state of the photon field is assumed to be a superposition of coherent states, leading to a more intricate LZ transition. Applying the rotating-wave approximation (RWA), analytical results are obtained revealing the enhancement of the LZ probability by increasing the average photon number. We also consider the creation of entanglement and the change of photon statistics during the LZ process. Without the RWA, we find some qualitative differences of the LZ dynamics from the RWA results; e. g., the average photon number no longer monotonically enhances the LZ probability. The ramifications and implications of these results are explored.

Super-Poissonian Squeezed Light in the Deep Strong Regime of the Quantum Rabi Model

Abstract:By analytically solving the quantum Rabi model, we investigate the photonic properties of its ground eigenstate. In particular, we find that in the deep strong coupling regime, where the coupling strength $g$ exceeds the mode frequency $\omega$, the photonic state is effectively squeezed in one of its quadratures. The squeezing reaches its maximum at the curve corresponding to the quantum phase transition of the quantum Rabi system, and decreases rapidly on both sides of the phase transition. Notably, for $g/\omega\approx 3$, which is experimentally testable in existing trapped-ion platforms, the achievable squeezing parameter can reach approximately $r\approx 0.8$. Intriguingly, the photonic state is squeezed while its number distribution follows a super-Poissonian distribution, with the largest deviation from Poissonian behavior occurring at the phase transition between the normal and superradiant phases. In other words, the ground state of the quantum Rabi model contains super-Poissonian quantum squeezed photons.

Resonant squeezed light from photonic Cooper pairs

Abstract:Raman scattering of photons into phonons gives rise to entangled photon pairs when the phonon emitted in a Stokes process is coherently absorbed in antiStokes scattering, forming the photonic analog of Cooper pairs. We present a nonperturbative theory for the time evolution of photonic Cooper pairs that treats interacting photons and phonons as a hybrid excitation, the Ramaniton. As the Ramaniton propagates in a wave guide it displays quantum oscillations between photon and phonon occupation, leading to resonant squeezed Stokes-antiStokes light when the phonon occupation becomes equal to zero without recurring back to the photon vacuum. This phenomenon is predicted to generate up to 28 dB of squeezed light even in standard silicon on insulator waveguides.

Equilibrium Parametric Amplification in Raman-Cavity Hybrids

Abstract:Parametric resonances and amplification have led to extraordinary photoinduced phenomena in pump-probe experiments. While these phenomena manifest themselves in out-of-equilibrium settings, here, we present the striking result of parametric amplification in equilibrium. In particular, we demonstrate that quantum and thermal fluctuations of a Raman-active mode amplifies light inside a cavity, at equilibrium, when the Raman mode frequency is twice the cavity mode frequency. This noise-driven amplification leads to the creation of an unusual parametric Raman polariton, intertwining the Raman mode with cavity squeezing fluctuations, with smoking gun signatures in Raman spectroscopy. In the resonant regime, we show the emergence of not only quantum light amplification but also localization and static shift of the Raman mode. Apart from the fundamental interest of equilibrium parametric amplification our study suggests a resonant mechanism for controlling Raman modes and thus matter properties by cavity fluctuations. We conclude by outlining how to compute the Raman-cavity coupling, and suggest possible experimental realization

Abstract:The description model of the multiple scattering lasers using the superposition states between the generated photons in the ensemble of bi-modes of the resonator field, we introduced a concept of indistinguishable energy portions generated in the resonator following multiple scattering. Each of these quasi-quanta has energy equal to the difference between the pumping and scattering quantum energies at each step of multiple scattering. The conversion of the photons in the external electromagnetic mode of the resonator destroys this cooperative correlation between the bi-modes and established conservation lows during the cooperative emission. The master equation containing two parameters connected with the gain of quasi-energy portions, and their annihilation due to the losses from the resonator, is proposed. The competition between these two processes is numerically studied. An attractive problem is connected with established quantum correlations between the photons belonging to non-adjacent modes of the cavity. The time behavior of the evolution of correlations between such modes is observed. This conception may be used for the teleportation of information in other modes during the multiple Raman conversion.

Abstract:We analyse the off-resonant Raman interaction of a single broadband photon, copropagating with a classical `control' pulse, with an atomic ensemble. It is shown that the classical electrodynamical structure of the interaction guarantees canonical evolution of the quantum mechanical field operators. This allows the interaction to be decomposed as a beamsplitter transformation between optical and material excitations on a mode-by-mode basis. A single, dominant modefunction describes the dynamics for arbitrary control pulse shapes. Complete transfer of the quantum state of the incident photon to a collective dark state within the ensemble can be achieved by shaping the control pulse so as to match the dominant mode to the temporal mode of the photon. Readout of the material excitation, back to the optical field, is considered in the context of the symmetry connecting the input and output modes. Finally, we show that the transverse spatial structure of the interaction is characterised by the same mode decomposition.
