Abstract:Single-crystalline, monodisperse copper sulfide nanocrystals with controlled sizes, shapes. and phases were successfully synthesized via a simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly chemical reaction of CuCl, and S in oleylamine at 100-180 degrees C. It was found that the molar ratios of [CuCl2]:[S] played the critical role for the control of the sizes, shapes, and phases of copper sulfide nanocrystals. The hexagonal CuS nanodisks, hexagonal CuS nanoribbons consisting of face-to-face stacked nanodisks, and monoclinic Cu1.75S nanoribbons consisting of face-to-face stacked nanodisks were obtained when the molar ratios of [CuCl2]:[S] were 1:1, 2:3, and 2:1, respectively. It was believed that the van der Waals force and dipole-dipole interaction were responsible for the self-assembly of copper sulfide nanodisks. Finally, the copper sulfide nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron micrscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared, and its growth mechanism was primarily discussed.

Abstract:The synthesis of copper nanowires (CuNWs) using modified polyols with hexadecylamine or octadecylamine as capping agents, known for their ease of operation, rapid reaction, and suitability for mass production, often encounters challenges such as the presence of copper particles, numerous copper nanorods, difficulty in purifying organic compounds, and air instability as by-products. In addressing these issues, this study introduces an innovative multiphase ultrasonic-assisted separation method. By utilizing ultrasound to accelerate the dissolution of hexadecylamine and facilitate the separation movement of CuNWs and by-products in hydrophilic and hydrophobic phases, the aim of achieving high purification of CuNWs is realized. Through the introduction of an ultra-thin hexadecylamine layer ( 3.5 nm) on the surface of CuNWs and leveraging the active adsorption of silver seed crystals, combined with the control CuNWs reaction concentration, silver-coated CuNWs with a dense and uniform surface thickness of 12–15 nm are obtained. By enhancing purity, stability, and cost-effectiveness, this research represents a significant advancement in the field of one-dimensional nanowires and their devices.

This comprehensive review emphasizes on a systematic investigation into the sonochemical synthesis of CuS nanoparticles, highlighting the influence of various reaction parameters, such as precursor concentration, sonication time, and temperature, on the resulting nanoparticle characteristics as well as its mechanism. Our analysis reveals the remarkable potential of sonochemistry in shaping CuS nanoparticles to meet the demands of a diverse array of applications, including the realms of photovoltaics, catalysis, and cutting-edge photothermal therapy.

Abstract:Monodisperse CuS nanocrystals were prepared by the hot-injection chemical reaction method using copper chloride, sulfur and oleylamine as reactants. The size, shape and stability of CuS nanocrystals were tuned by the addition of other surfactants including benzylamine, oleic acid, stearic acid, dodecanethiol, tri-octylphosphine oxide and alkylamines with C8RC16(C8 being a 8-carbon chain). Furthermore, the as-synthesized CuS nanocrystals can be self-assembled into snakelike or cornlike nanostructures under the control of some conditions. Finally, the morphology and structure of the CuS nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM).

Abstract:Copper(I) sulfide (Cu(2)S) nanodisks with controllable size and aspect ratio have been synthesized by using a one-pot colloidal process, in which no pre-prepared organometallic precursors are required. The reaction involves the injection of dodecanethiol into a hot solution containing copper salt, surfactants, and a high boiling-point organic solvent. Copper thiolate forms at the beginning of the reaction which effectively acts as a precursor whose decomposition leads to further nucleation and growth of Cu(2)S nanocrystals. The nanocrystals begin as small nanodots in the early stages of the reaction, gradually turning into nanodisks with aspect ratios (average disk diameter divided by thickness) up to 2.0, while the band gap of the nanocrystals decreases accordingly. As the growth of nanocrystals follows the monomer addition mechanism, the diameter, thickness, aspect ratio, and optical property of the Cu(2)S nanodisks can be tuned systematically by changing the reaction time, the amount of surfactants, and the concentration of the precursors. This synthesis provides a simple and highly reproducible method for the preparation of Cu(2)S nanocrystals that may find potential applications in the fabrication of photovoltaic devices.

Abstract:Copper sulfide (CuS) nanocrystals with special morphologies, such as flower- and trepang-like morphology have been successfully synthesized via a simple and convenient solution route at low temperature from shuttle-like CuO crystals. The morphology of the products can be easily controlled by choosing appropriate solvent as the reaction medium. Studies found that the copper source and reaction time also have important influence on the morphology of the final products.

Abstract:A series of copper selenides (Cu2−xSe, Cu3Se2 and CuSe) nanocrystals were prepared by a sonochemical method based on the reaction of copper acetate and sodium selenosulfate in an aqueous system. The phases and sizes of the nanocrystals could be controlled by changing the ratio of [Cu2+]/[SeSO32−] and complexing agents. X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were used to determine the phase, purity, size and morphology of the products.

Abstract:ZnS nanoparticles and one-dimensional nanocrystals were obtained by in-situ synthesis in Aa-AMPS-hT ternary periodic copolymer by ion complexometry and self-assembly method. The micro-morphology, structure and optical properties were characterized by TEM, SED, UV-vis spectra and PL spectra. The results show that the products are hexagonal ZnS nanocrystals with 15 nm-215 nm in diameter. The morphology and dimension of ZnS nanoparticles could be controlled by varying the sulfaration time. The UV-vis absorption spectra indicate that the absorption edges are blue-shifted by shortening the sulfuration time, exhibiting a marked quantum size effect. With shortening sulfuration time, the photoluminescence emission peak of 409.8 nm is blue-shifted, which could be ascribed to be the forbidden gap emission.

Abstract:The sulfurization reaction was investigated as a promising fabrication method for preparing metal sulfide nanomaterials. Traditional sulfurization processes generally require high vacuum systems, high reaction temperatures, and toxic chemicals, utilizing complicated procedures with poor composition and morphology controllability. Herein, a facile method is reported for synthesizing nanostructured copper sulfide using a sulfurization reaction with Na2S at room temperature under non-vacuum conditions. Moreover, we demonstrate that the morphology, composition, and optical properties of nanostructured copper sulfides could be controlled by the Na2S solution concentration and the reaction time. Nanostructured copper sulfides were synthesized in nanospheres, nanoplates, and nanoplate-based complex morphologies with various oxidation states. Furthermore, by comparing the optical properties of nanostructured copper sulfides with different oxidation states, we determined that reflectivity in the near infrared (NIR) region decreases with increasing oxidation states. These results reveal that the Na2S solution concentration and reaction time are key factors for designing nanostructured copper sulfides, providing new insights for synthesis methods of metal sulfide nanomaterials.

Abstract:Copper sulfide nanoparticles, effective absorbers of near-infrared light, are recently attracting broad interest as a photothermal coupling agent for cancer therapy. Lipophilic copper sulfide nanoparticles are preferred for high performance biomedical applications due to high tissue affinity. Synthesis of lipophilic copper sulfide nanoparticles requires complicated multi-step processes under severe conditions. Here, we describe a new synthetic process, developed by direct dry-grinding of copper(II) acetylacetonate with sulfur under ambient environment at low temperature. The formed CuS nanoparticles are of uniform size, ~10 nm in diameter, and are monodispersed in chloroform. Each covellite CuS nanocrystal surface is modified with oleylamine through hydrogen bonding between sulfur atoms and amine groups of oleylamine. The nanoparticles demonstrate near-infrared light absorption for photothermal applications. The synthetic methodology described here is more convenient and less extreme than previous methods, and should thus greatly facilitate the preparation of photothermal lipophilic copper sulfide nanomaterials for cancer therapy.

Abstract:Copper sulfide nanostructures with different morphology have been developed using wet chemical route. The product so obtained have been characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis) and photoluminescence (PL) technique. Effect of reaction medium on the morphology of the obtained samples has been studied in detail. We hereby demonstrate that while the reaction medium used has no impact on the phase of the prepared sample, however it plays an important role in deciding the morphology. CuS nanoparticles, nanoflower and nanoflakes like structure have been prepared under optimized condition using facile method in small period of time.

Abstract:Nanocrystallites of nonstoichiometric copper selenide (Cu(2-x)Se) and stoichiometric copper selenides (beta-CuSe and Cu(3)Se(2)) were synthesized in different solutions via sonochemical irradiation at room temperature. The influence of solvents, surfactants, and ultrasonic irradiation on the morphology and phase of products has been investigated. The morphological difference of the products was mainly affected by the solvents and surfactants, which can self-aggregate into lamellar structures or microemulsions, and then these unique structures can act as both supramolecular template and microreactor to direct the growth of copper selenides. On the other hand, it was also found that the sonochemical irradiation and solvents played an important role in the formation of different phases of copper selenides. The proposed formation mechanism of copper selenides is discussed.

Abstract:The preparation of nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 at synthetic conditions of low temperature (<180°C) was first reported. Nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 was directly synthesized from the reaction of CuCl2·2H2O with elemental tin and sulfur through a solvothermal process in ethylenediamine at 140–180°C for 15 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) were used to characterize the products. The mechanism of the formation of the Cu2SnS3 nanocrystals in the solvothermal process was proposed. The UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and the electric conductivity of products were also studied.

Abstract:Copper nanoclusters have shown tremendous application perspective because of their outstanding luminescence properties, inherent biocompatibility, and easy accessibility; however, low emission brightness and poor resistance to ambient oxygen greatly limit their wide applications in long-term sensing and bioimaging. Herein, we develop an effective and general approach to enhancing the luminescence and stability of copper nanoclusters through in situ generation of a silica shell and further propose a versatile surface functionalization method to achieve functional copper nanoclusters via the formation of a second layer of a silica shell. The use of thiol-containing trialkoxysilane facilitates in situ generation of a silica shell on the surface of copper nanoclusters, and the existence of the first layer of a silica shell substantially improves the emission efficacy of copper nanoclusters. The introduction of a second layer of a silica shell not only greatly enhances the brightness and stability of copper nanoclusters but also provides versatile surface functional groups via hydrolysis and polymerization of trialkoxysilance derivatives with different functionals on the surface of a silica shell. Thiol-functionalized silica-coated copper nanoclusters as a demonstration are used to develop a novel detection strategy for hydrogen sulfide based on disulfide exchange reactions. The excellent analytical performance of the established method proves the feasibility and practicability of functional copper nanoclusters with a core-shell structure in long-term sensing and bioimaging applications.

Abstract:Copper-based material has good electrical and optical properties but is not only physical properties and also good in antibacterial applications. Nano-structured CuS has potential value on high photocatalytic activity because of their suitable band gap and catalytic ability. CuS NP hydrogels had both adjustable physical properties and good injectable self-healing characteristics and excellent functionalities, concurrently including hemostatic ability, bacteria-killing capability, and cell migration and proliferation promotion. In vivo wound, healing, and histomorphological examinations of immunofluorescence staining in a mouse full-thickness wound model demonstrated good acceleration effects of these hydrogels for infected wound healing. A novel Chalcopyrite CuFeS nanocrystals are used as a Fenton reagent to degrade organic dyes without any additional source efficiently. Subsequently, the CuFeS2 nanocrystals/ biomass composite degradation column is made, continually degrading organic dyes. This paper demonstrates a comparative study of the synthesis and characterization of pure CuS and CuFeS nanoparticles using copper chloride, thiourea, ferric chloride and water solvent by straightforward hydrothermal methods. The synthesized material was characterized by an Xray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDAX) techniques employed to study the nanostructure properties of the prepared sample. Crystallite size was determined by the Debye-Scherrer formula and found to be 15.5 nm and 20.55 nm, respectively. The EDAX spectrum showed a clear peak of present elements. An SEM image shows the morphology of the nanostructures. Optical analysis was done with UV and FTIR techniques. The pure CuS and CuFeS synthesized Tauc Relation and calculated nanomaterials bandgap came out to be 4.6eV and 4.4 eV, respectively.
Controllable Synthesis of CuS Nanostructures from Self-Assembled Precursors with Biomolecule Assistance

Abstract:In this work, taking the preparation of CuS nanomaterials as an example, the multiple roles of L-cysteine in the formation of metal sulfide nanostructures were elucidated. First, the precursors captured from the initial reaction solutions were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, which indicated that three typical precursors with different morphologies (dispersive flakes, flake-built spherical aggregations, and solid microspheres) have formed in the three initial reaction solutions with different ratios of L-cysteine to CuCl2, 2H(2)O. Then, the as-formed precursors decomposed as self-sacrificed templates under the hydrothermal condition to produce the interesting CuS nanostructures of highly ordered nanostructures (snowflake-like patterns and flower-like microspheres) and porous hollow microspheres. The mechanisms for the formation of the precursors and their transformation to the final CuS nanostructures have been discussed in detail. The UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra of the as-obtained CuS nanomaterials with different morphologies have been investigated and discussed. Such work is meaningful in understanding the self-assembly of nanostructures and helpful to prepare novel functional nanomaterials.

Abstract:Trigonal and hexagonal CuS (covellite) nanoflakes with controlled size (10–200nm, and thickness of 3.6–5nm) were synthesized through the reaction between copper acetylacetonate and sulfur in oleylamine. Size and shape of the products could be tuned by reaction parameters and reactant concentration. The as-prepared flakes have smooth surfaces and self-assemble face-to-face each other. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction show that the nanoscale flakes were single-crystal hexagonal covellite. Formation mechanism of the nanoflakes is discussed. UV–vis spectra reveal that the samples have blue-shift absorbance onsets owning to the quantum size effects.

Abstract:Nanosized copper aluminate (CuAl2O4) spinel particles have been prepared by a precursor approach with the aid of ultrasound radiation. Mono-phasic copper aluminate with a crystallite diameter of 17nm along the (311) plane was formed when the products were synthesized using Cu(NO3)2·6H2O and Al(NO3)3·9H2O as starting materials, with urea as a precipitation agent at a concentration of 9M. The reaction was carried out under ultrasound irradiation at 80°C for 4h and a calcination temperature of 900°C for 6h. The synthesized copper aluminate particles and the effect of different processing conditions such as the copper source, precipitation agents, sonochemical reaction time, calcination temperature and time were analyzed and characterized by the techniques of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT–IR).
