Abstract:Uniform nanocrystalline β‐In2S3 powders have been prepared by reacting the reagents at 140°C for 12 h using an organothermal process in nonaqueous solvents. XRD patterns and TEM images showed that the average particle sizes of the powders prepared in toluene and 1,2‐dimethoxyethane (DME) were 8 and 16 nm, respectively. The particle sizes of nanocrystalline β‐In2S3 powders synthesized by the organothermal process can be controlled by choosing different solvents. The specific surface areas of the products obtained in toluene and DME, which were measured by the BET method, were 74.92 and 36.20 m2/g, respectively. The products were analyzed by XPS, atomic absorption, and IR. The formation process of the nanocrystalline β‐In2S3 has been discussed.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline CrN was successfully prepared through the liquid–solid reaction of anhydrous CrCl3 and Li3N, via a benzene–thermal method in the temperature range of 350–420°C, which is much lower than that used in conventional methods. This process is simple and easy to control. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated that the compound was cubic CrN phase with cell constant a = 4.13 Å. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that the average particle size was about 25 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the as-prepared products contained a small amount (less than 20%) of amorphous carbon.

Abstract:A co-reduction reaction was proposed to synthesize nanocrystalline intermetallics Fe3Si and Ni3Al under benzene-thermal conditions. The reactions were carried out in an autoclave at 450°C using FeCl3 and SiCl4 or NiCl2 and AlCl3 as reactants, respectively, and metal Na as a reductant. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible formation process and the effective factors of nanocrystalline intermetallic Fe3Si were discussed.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline niobium nitride was synthesized via benzene-thermal reaction of NbCl5 and NaN3 in an autoclave at 380°C. X-ray powder diffraction pattern indicated that the product was cubic NbN, and the cell constant was a = 4.419Å. Transmission electron microscopy image showed that the sample consisted of particles with the diameters of 10–20nm. Benzene solvent played an important role in the formation of nanocrystalline NbN.

Abstract:A benzene–thermal reaction of TiCl 4 and NaN 3 at 350°–380°C was conducted for the preparation of nanocrystalline TiN. Powder X‐ray diffractometry patterns indicated that the powder was cubic‐phase TiN with a lattice constant a = 4.23656 Å. Transmission electron microscopy images showed the TiN powders consisted of uniform spherical particles with an average diameter of 50 nm. The binding energies of Ti 2 p 3/2 and N 1 s core levels at the positions of 454.85 and 397.1 eV, respectively, and the Ti:N atomic ratio of 1.08:1.00 were detected by X‐ray photoelectron spectra. A possible formation mechanism of TiN was proposed.

Abstract:Solvent thermal process has been successfully applied to prepare nanocrystalline CdS via the reaction CdSO4 with Na2S3 in benzene at 80–120 °C. It was found that solvent, temperature, and reactant have significant effect on crystal structure and particle size of CdS nanocrystalline. The results show that increasing of temperature and using of solvent of low dielectric constant are beneficial to prepare CdS nanocrystalline in hexagonal phase. The water content in the system not only induces the presence of cubic phase CdS nanocrystalline, but also leads to a particle size increase. The results demonstrate that both phase and particle size can be well controlled. As-prepared CdS nanocrystalline powders display obvious blue-shift characteristics.

Abstract:Nanocrystaline CuInS2 were synthesized via heating method mixtures using CuI,indium acetate,and dodecanethiol as precursors and liquid paraffin as solvent. The influence of the reaction temperature and addition of dodecanethiol on absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy of nanocrystaline CuInS2 were investigated. Nanocrystal CuInS2 were packaged with ZnS by Capillary micro-reactor.After that,the fluorescence intensity of CuInS2 was enhanced.

Abstract:Indium sulfide nanomaterials of different frameworks and morphologies have been prepared ionothermally using indium chloride and sodium sulfide as raw materials and different ionic liquids as solvent.The morphology and framework of indium sulfide nanomaterials were characterized by XRD,SEM,TEM.The results show that: prepared at constant temperature of 150 ℃ for 24 h,the sample in the ionic liquid,1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide was tetragonal β-In2S3 with hexagonal flake morphology,while in 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate,the sample was cubic β-In2S3 with flower like morphology.The FTIR result indicated that ionic liquids have a strong act on the reaction process.Ultraviolet-visible optical Absorption spectrum and photoluminescence spectrum of the nanoflakes have also been characterized.

Abstract:In2Se3 nanowires synthesized by the VLS technique are transformed by solid-state reaction with copper into high-quality single-crystalline CuInSe2 nanowires. The process is studied by in situ transmission electron microscopy. The transformation temperature exhibits a surprising anisotropy, with In2Se3 nanowires grown along their [0001] direction transforming at a surprisingly low temperature of 225 degrees C, White nanowires in a [1120] orientation require a much higher temperature of 585 degrees C. These results offer a route to the synthesis of CuInSe2 nanowires at a relatively low temperature as well as insight into the details, of a transformation commonly used in-the fabrication of thin-film solar cells.

Abstract:III−VI and I−III−VI semiconductors with anomalous grain boundaries have been actively studied for high efficiency photovoltaic applications. Nanowire morphology can provide a well-defined nanodomain for studying grain boundary and p−n junction physics for improving solar cell efficiency. We report the synthesis of In2Se3 and CuInSe2 single crystalline nanowires via a Au-catalyzed vapor−liquid−solid growth. Superlattice forms in In2Se3 nanowires at room temperature and a reversible superlattice transformation takes place at 200 °C. Cu concentration in CuInSe2 nanowires can be controlled, and nanowires show a dependence of crystal structure on Cu concentration.

Abstract:β-In2S3 powders with particles having an average size of 13 nm and spherical shape have been successfully prepared through the hydrothermal treatment of a sol from indium trichloride and sodium sulfide at 140°C. The effects of temperature, time, and the pH value of the sol on the formation of the nanocrystalline β-In2S3 powders were investigated. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron micrography (TEM), and IR spectroscopy.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline ZrN has been successfully prepared via benzene-thermal reaction of ZrCl4 and NaN3 at 350-380 degrees C. X-ray powder diffraction patterns indicated that the crystallinity of ZrN was considerably high and the cell constant was a = 4.567 Angstrom. Transmission electron microscopy images showed the powders consist of uniform spherical particles with a narrow particle-size distribution (10-20 nm). The role benzene-solvent played in the formation of nanocrystalline ZrN was discussed.
