Abstract:The design principle of a 660 MW high efficiency ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler was discussed,while its main performance parameters were predicted.The boiler adopts two parallel furnaces,and each furnace has an independent air supply system.External heat exchangers are used in the scheme,while panel superheaters and panel reheaters are arranged in the upper furnace.To reduce the deviation of steam temperature caused by incomplete symmetry of both the temperature and mass flow of flue gas and bed material in the two independent loops,the air supply rate,coal feeding rate and bottom ash discharging rate are controlled,steam mixture headers are used,while the flow direction of inlet flue gas in the backpass is changed.Results show that the design scheme with double furnaces can well solve the problem of temperature deviation,and ensure the positive flow characteristics in waterwalls even at low mass flux.Additionally,the auxilary power comsuption can also be reduced due to lower water pump head.

Abstract:The supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler is a very promising clean coal combustion technology with the combination of the advantages of the CFB combustion technology and the supercritical pressure steam cycle. Some primary problems such as the furnace structure, the arrangement of the heat surface etc. were all discussed in this paper. And based on the discussion, we put forward a primary design of a 600MWe supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler. At last, with reference to the results of the thermal calculation, we forecast the main operation parameters of the boiler and discussed the infection of the change of the boiler load on some main parameters of the boiler. Figs 4, tables 4 and refs 7.

Abstract:The supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, which combines the advantages of CFB combustion with low cost emission control and supercritical steam cycle with high efficiency of coal energy, is believed to be the future of CFB combustion technology. It is also of greatest importance for low rank coal utilization in China. Different from the supercritical pulverized coal boiler that has been developed more than 50 years, the supercritical CFB boiler is still a new one which requires further investigation. Without any precedentor engineering reference, Chinese researchers have conducted fundamental research, development, design of the supercritical CFB boilers independently. The design theory and key technology for supercritical CFB boiler were proposed. Key components and novel structures were invented. The first 600 MWe supercritical CFB boiler and its auxiliaries were successfully developed and demonstrated in Baima Power Plant, Shenhua Group as well as the simulator, control technology, installation technology, commissioning technology, system integration and operation technology. Compared with the 460 MWe supercritical CFB in Poland, developed in the same period and the only other supercritical one of commercial running in the word beside Baima, the 600 MWe one in Baima has a better performance. Besides, supercritical CFB boilers of 350 MWe have been developed and widely commercialized in China. In this paper, the updated progress of 660 MWe ultra-supercritical CFB boilers under development is introduced.

Abstract:A double reheat ultra-supercritical boiler is an important development direction for high-parameter and large-capacity coal-fired power plants due to its high thermal efficiency and environmental value. China has developed a 1000 MW double reheat ultra-supercritical boiler with steam parameters of 35 MPa at 605°C/613°C/613°C. Reasonable water wall design is one of the keys to safe and reliable operation of the boiler. In order to examine the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of the double reheat ultra-supercritical boiler, the water wall system was equivalent to a flow network comprising series-parallel circuits, linking circuits and pressure nodes, and a calculation model was built on account of the conservation equations of energy, momentum and mass. Through the iterative solving of nonlinear equations, the prediction parameters of the water wall at boiler maximum continue rate(BMCR), 75% turbine heat-acceptance rate(THA) and 30% THA loads, including total pressure drops, flow distribution, outlet steam temperatures, fluid and metal temperatures were gotten. The results of calculation exhibit excellent thermal-hydraulic characteristics and substantiate the feasibility of the water wall design of the double reheat ultra-supercritical boiler.

Abstract:The heat transfer and flow characteristics of various ribbed and smooth tubes were experimentally investigated in the range of sub-and super-critical pressure.The DNB and Dryout boundary and heat transfer correlations were obtained from these experiments.The mathematical model for the circulation loop flow and pressure at junctions in a complex flow network system was established and an iteration method was used to solve the nonlinear equations.The water wall flow distribution and temperature profile of a 600MW supercritical pressure CFB boiler were calculated computationally,and the results show that safe operation in hydrodynamic at BMCR and 75%BMCR load can be expected.The effect of heat absorption on flow distribution and temperature profile was also investigated,it is demonstrated that a proper responsiveness between variation of medium flow and heat absorption can be achieved.

Abstract:A large-scale supercritical circulating fluidized bed (SCCFB) boiler, which generates steam with supercritical pressure and high temperature, overcomes the major shortcoming of the ambient circulating fluidized bed (ACFB) boiler whose thermal efficiency is not sufficient high, and inherits ACFB's advantage in environmental protection. Its investment and operation cost for desulphurization and low NOX emission guaranteed is less than that of pulverized coal fired (PC) boiler equipped with flue gas desulphurization (FGD) and selected catalytic reaction (SCR). Thus SCCFB is regarded as the next generation clean coal technology.Supported by Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the pre-feasibility study of an 800MWe SCCFB boiler was conducted. The designed fuel was high sulfur bituminous coal. Based on the experience of supercritical pressure PC boiler, once reheat and sliding pressure were adopted, with 604 degrees C and 26.17MPa for fresh steam and 604 degrees C for reheat steam. The boiler was of single furnace with pant legs, and the membrane water walls were composed of once-through vertical smooth tubes with throttle but intermediate mixing. It is found that the thickness of 8mm was safe to prevent the tubes From erosion at various load conditions because of the rather high mass flow rates. The combustion system consisted of 6 thermal-insulated cyclones. 6 water-cooled mechanical distribution valves and 6 external heat exchangers (EHEs). An internal start-tip system with recirlculating pumps was also suggested. The boiler efficiency was about 93% at B-MCR, and emissions of NOX and CO are kept lower than 200mg/Nm(3) and 100mg/Nm(3), respectively. Hydrodynamics performance and material balance at full and partial loads were predicted with a mathematical model. The simulation results confirm the correctness of the design with vertical water wall of the furnace.

Abstract:This paper presents a feed-forward and feedback control scheme for boiler-turbine coordination control system of 1000MW ultra-supercritical thermal power generating unit. Due to the multi-variable and nonlinear characteristics of control plant with strong couplings between main steam pressure control loop and power control loop, coordination control system is much more challenging to fulfill multiple tasks in practice. In terms of research range of this paper, a model of control plant with 2 inputs and 2 outputs is used to further optimize the performance of boiler-turbine coordination control system. Control tasks of unit load response and main steam pressure maintenance were taken into account to meet the demand in the rated condition. Simulation results show that the proposed boiler-turbine coordination control system could lead to a satisfactory performance on both control tasks.

Abstract:While the power plant units are the developing towards larger capacity, the relative shortage in thermal efficiency of the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler unit, which has obtained significant development in recent years, is becoming more and more apparent. However, the thermal efficiency computational model applied for different CFB boiler units are not derived yet. Based on Generalized Energy Efficiency Distribution Matrix (GEEDM) model which is designed for normal pulverized coal boiler units, this paper innovatively built a computational model of cycle efficiency for CFB boiler units. Moreover, the mathematical influences of main local influencing factors like terminal difference, extraction steam pressure loss, heat loss, drained water cooling insufficient, steam desuperheater, shaft seal leakage of steam turbine and connection schemes of ash cooler to this model were further proposed to strengthen its industrial applications. In the meanwhile, the detailed thermodynamic analysis of a 660 MW ultra supercritical unit in China was studied to provide some optimized design and operation suggestions. Particularly, for this unit, an optimized connection scheme of the ash cooler, a core component in the CFB boiler to reclaim physical heat in the bottom ash, was selected from 20 different connection schemes. Heat Transfer in Furnace of 1 000 MW Coal-fired Unit under Different Load Conditions

Abstract:A 3D coupled mathematical model of 1 000 MW ultra-supercritical tower boiler was established. Based on the design parameters of the boiler, the model calculated the flow and heat transfer process of the boiler in operation. The model was used to simulate different load conditions of the supercritical boiler. The boiler maximum continuous rating (BMCR) condition, 75% BMCR condition and 50% BMCR condition were selected to explore the heat transfer during peak shaving operation. By analyzing the temperature and heat flux distribution in the furnace and the temperature distribution in the tube and on the water cooled wall, it is found that the temperature and heat flux change of the BMCR, 75% BMCR are in the similar trend while the temperature change of the 50% BMCR is irregular, and the heat transfer deterioration is prone to occur in the spiral water cooled wall region.

Abstract:The design consideration of a 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler was discussed. The conceptual design of simplified 660 MW ultra-supercritical CFB boiler was suggested. In this boiler, there is only one distributor to avoid the bed inventory overturn between pant-legs. All the heating surface in the loop are located in the uppers of the furnace instead of external heat exchanger. The front water wall is embattlement shape, the water wall surface is enlarged compared with that the normal one because the length of the wall is expended for the same furnace sectional area. And the height of the furnace is only 48.2 m. The secondary air nozzles are located in the trough to the furnace of the embattlement shape wall, the distance between the front wall and rear wall is decreased to improve the Oxygen diffusion in the gas solid two phase flow. There is an embattlement in the rear wall between the adjacent cyclones. And the furnace alone the width direction is divided into four units. Thus this design is unit design. The operation practices shows that the cut size of the fly ash is not upward trend when the cyclone diameter increases. This indicates that the collection efficiency of the cyclone does not decrease when the cyclone diameter increases, which proves the feasibility of the cyclone with 10.85 m diameter in this design. The structure of the simplified 660 MW supercritical CFB boiler was described, and the performance was also predicted.

Abstract:To develop supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler is objective of international CFB circles because supercritical CFB boiler combines the advantages of CFB combustion of low cost emission control and supercritical steam cycle of high efficiency of power generation.It is also most important for low rank coal utility.With the support of High Technology R&D Program (863) and Key Project of the National Research Program of China,Chinese researchers investigated systematically the issuers of supercritical CFB boiler development.And the huge theoretical and engineering challenges from 300MW subcritical natural circulation leaping to 600 MW supercritical once through are comprehensively broken.And the first 600MW supercritical CFB boiler and its auxiliaries were successfully developed and demonstrated in Baima Power Plant,Shenhua.Then the investigation results have been successfully expanded into 350MW supercritical CFB boilers design and have been commercialized widely.These studies provide the basis for the development of ultra-supercritical CFB boiler.Now,the key technologies such as heat deviation,ultra-low emission,and low electric power consumption are being investigated.And some preliminary achievements has been made.

Abstract:After merging the induced draft fan(IDF) of boiler with the booster air fan used for flue gas desulphurization of ultra-supercritical 1000 MW unit in one power plant,a small-turbine driven IDF has been adopted.The influence of turbine-driven IDF upon main operating indices of power plant has been analysed,results of analysis show that the adoptation of turbine driven large-capacity IDF can avoid impulse to the auxiliry electric system in start-up process of IDF,reducing substantially the consumption rate of service power.

Abstract: Water wall design is a key technology of supercritical pressure CFB boiler. On account of the low heat flux and its homogeneous distribution in furnace, internally ribbed tubes with low mass flux and smooth tubes with moderate mass flux can be applied in the water wall of supercritical CFB boilers. An experimental research on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of internally ribbed tubes and smooth tubes with different inner diameters was conducted in the range of sub-critical and supercritical pressure. The departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) and dry-out boundary and the empirical correlations of heat transfer are obtained from the experiments. The mathematical model for predicting the circuit mass flux and grid pressure of a flow network system is based on the mass and momentum conservation equations and an iterative method is used to solve the nonlinear equations. Harbin Boiler Works has developed a 600MW supercritical CFB boiler with external heat exchangers and 6 separators. The mass flux and metal temperature distribution of water wall in the CFB boiler are calculated and the results show that the water wall can operate safely at BMCR and 75%BMCR load.

Abstract:In order to enhance the deep peak-regulating capacity of ultra-supercritical thermal power units and solve the problem of large capacity units with low efficiency at low load section, the 1 000 MW unit with high efficiency and wide regulation load demonstration project was put forward and constructed. The burner and water wall of the boiler and steam turbine parameters were applied to the optimization design. The model and operation mode of water supply pumps, condensate pumps, circulating pumps and other auxiliary equipment were optimized. By adding a supplementary steam valve, an external cooler, No.0 high pressure heater, low temperature economizer and other equipment, the unit still maintain a relatively high efficiency in a wide range of target load. The thermal calculation results show that the efficiency of the demonstration unit is 3% higher than the existing unit at 50% load, and the operation flexibility of the demonstration unit has been significantly enhanced, which has made obvious economic and social benefits. The related experience has a reference value for the subsequent similar units to enhance their flexibility.

Abstract:In order to avoid overtemperature tube explosion of the platen superheater, the measurements of metal temperatures and the heat transfer coefficients of the platen superheater in a commercial 300 MW Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler are conducted in this work. The measured data is analyzed and the theoretical calculation is made. On the basis, the reasonable steam flow path and the value range of heat transfer coefficient of the middle temperature platen superheater are applied for desgin. Furthermore, based on operation experience from several 300 MW CFB boilers, a desgin principle of the mass velocity and the arrangement of the platen superheater in the furnace is given.

Abstract:The ultra supercritical boiler technology with double reheat can significantly increase the efficiency of a Rankine cycle power plant, and reduce fuel consumption for a given output. Recently China is developing 1000MW ultra supercritical boiler with double reheat which is arranged in tower type and the steam parameters are 350bar, 605℃/613℃/613℃. Thermal-hydraulic analysis is the key factors for the design and operation of ultra supercritical boiler with double reheat. According to the boiler structure and furnace-sided heat flux, the water wall of an ultra supercritical tower boiler with double reheat is treated in this paper as a flow network system consisting of series-parallel loops, pressure grids and connecting tubes. Based on the mass, momentum and energy conservations and some supplementary equations, a mathematical model is developed. Pressure drop, mass flux distribution, outlet vapor temperatures and metal temperatures data in the water wall at BMCR (boiler maximum continuous rating), 75% THA (turbine heat acceptance) and 30% THA load are obtained by iteratively solving the mathematical model. The results show that the water wall in the ultra supercritical boiler can operate safely.
