Abstract:Yb:NaGd(WO4)2 (Yb:NGW) single crystal with the diameter in 30 mm and 70 mm long was grown by the Czochralski method, then the as-grown crystal was obtained with annealing. The growth procedure of this crystal was investigated and the optimal technical parameters were determined as follows: the pulling speed is 1–2 mm/h, the rotation rate is 15–18 r/min, the cooling speed is 10 ℃ /h and the axial temperature gradient of in solid-liquid interface is 0.7–1 ℃/ mm. This annealed crystal was characterized by thermogravimetry–differential thermal analysis (TG–DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The infrared spectrum and Raman spectrum of the crystal were measured, and the assignation of the vibrations of the peak value was determined. The absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum of the Yb:NGW crystal were measured. TG–DTA curves show that the melting point of the Yb:NGW crystal is 1 252.02 ℃ . The XRD analysis shows that the crystal belongs to tetragonal system with scheelite-type structure and space group I41/a. The cell parameters calculated are a = 0.536 03 nm,c = 1.116 28 nm. Its absorption spectrum shows that the highest absorption peak of Yb3+ are located position at 968 nm and full width half maximum (FWHM) of the peak reach 57 nm, which is suitable for laser-diode pumping.
