Abstract:4-Aryl-3, 4-dihydropyrimidinones were synthesized using microwave-assisted, solvent-free protocol of the Biginelli reaction. The simple method provides the title compounds in 78%-95% yields by the reaction of aromatic aldehydes with ethyl acetoacetate and urea/thiourea in the presence of a catalytic amount of conc. HCl Lewis acids, such as ZnCl2, SnCl2, FeCl3 . 6H(2)O, and CuCl2 . 2H(2)O, were also found to be efficient catalysts for the synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones.

Abstract:A facile one-step microwave-assisted method was proposed for kaolinite intercalation and grafting. The structure, morphology, composition, and size distribution of kaolinite sheets were investigated using various methods, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The potential application of the modified kaolinite as an oil/water emulsion stabilizer was studied. The results verified that intact kaolinite sheets were obtained. The dodecane/water emulsion stabilized by the modified kaolinite remained stable for more than 60 days. The effective performance suggests that the effectiveness of the proposed kaolinite modification method may be useful for Pickering emulsion stabilization in oil recovery applications.

Abstract:A facile approach has been developed for the synthesis of dihydrocoumarin derivatives through the reaction of phenols and cinnamoyl chloride in the presence of ecofriendly solid-acid catalyst montmorillonite K-10 via a tandem esterification-Friedel-Crafts alkylation process under microwave irradiation. Abstract:The magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles supported imidazolium-based ionic liquids (MNPs–IILs), namely 1-methyl-3-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) imidazolium hydrogen sulfate (MNPs–IIL–HSO4), 1-methyl-3-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) imidazolium acetate (MNPs–IIL–OAc) and 1-methyl-3-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) imidazolium chloride (MNPs–IIL–Cl) were used as efficient new catalysts for the one-pot synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones under microwave irradiation and solvent-free conditions in excellent yields. Utilization of easy reaction conditions, catalyst with high catalytic activity and good reusability, and simple magnetically work-up, makes this green protocol as an interesting option for the economic synthesis of Biginelli compounds. Microwave technology as an eco-friendly green synthetic approach has gradually been used in this organic procedure. Combining the advantages of microwave irradiation and magnetically nanocatalyst, this method provides an efficient and much improved modification of the original Biginelli reaction. We believe that this procedure appears to have a broad scope with respect to variation in the 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones (thiones).Graphical Abstractwe have developed a rapid, effective, validated and environmental-friendly method for the synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones (thiones) using Fe3O4 nanoparticles immobilized imidazolium salt catalyst in microwave irradiation and solvent-free conditions. Reduced reaction times, high turnover frequency, high yields of products, absence of solvent and recyclability of catalyst make our catalyst a valuable system addition to previously reported methods. This green methodology should be amenable to construct new substituted dihydropyrimidinones scaffolds with potential biological applications.

Abstract:Significant base and temperature effects on the Wittig reactions of cyclohexanones with (carbethoxymethylene)triphenylphosphorane under microwave irradiation were observed. For the Wittig reactions carried out in a domestic microwave oven under solvent-free conditions, the initially formed exo-olefin products isomerized into the thermodynamically more stable endo-olefins due to uncontrolled high reaction temperature. In sharp contrast, under controlled microwave heating, both exo- and endo-olefins have been selectively synthesized by accurately regulating the reaction temperature with or without a base. Abstract:An effective synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one derivatives using ionic liquid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimmidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim]PF6) as the catalyst from aldehydes, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and urea (thiourea) under microwave irradiation is described. This new method has the advantage of high yields (80-95% for aromatic aldehydes) and short reaction time (3-5 min).

Abstract:In this study, montmorillonite clay (MT) was modified for the first time with CuFe 2 O 4 spinel ferrite nanoparticles and assessed as a recyclable catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of 1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones under solvent-free microwave irradiation conditions with a high to excellent yield. The morphology and chemistry of the CuFe 2 O 4 @MT (CuF@MT) nanocomposite were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images, transmission electron microscope images, and vibrating sample magnetometer curve analyses. The results indicated the presence of CuFe 2 O 4 with a tetragonal structure, a consistent distribution, and no aggregation at MT. The findings further indicated that CuF@MT's superior magnetic characteristics led to its use as a heterogeneous catalyst in manufacturing 1,3-thiazolidin-4-one derivatives. This technique offers various advantages, including mild reaction conditions, high efficiency, and fast recovery of the nanocatalyst.

Abstract:A number of cyclic mono- and di-ketones underwent regioselective olefination with (carbethoxyethylidene)triphenylphospharane under controlled microwave heating. The Wittig reaction of 4-substituted cyclohexanones or 1,2- and 1,4-cyclohexanediones with the ylide at 190°C for 20min in MeCN afforded the exocyclic olefins in >94:6 isomer ratios. On the other hand, the same reactions carried out at 230°C for 20min in the presence of 20mol% DBU furnished the endocyclic olefins in >83:17 isomer ratios. The base-mediated isomerization of the exocyclic olefins into the endocyclic isomers was primarily driven by thermodynamic stability of the products and the effect of ring structures on deconjugation was examined.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel solvent free method of synthesis of trans-chalcones. The method was based on ultrasound irradiation of the reagents (aryl methyl ketones and aryl aldehydes) in presence of commercial acid-montmorillonites as catalysts. The trans-chalcones were synthesized in high yields (85-95%) and excellent selectivity in a short reaction time.

Abstract:Methyl 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one-5-carboxylate derivatives 7 were effectively synthesized on the soluble polymer of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000 by heating or solvent-free microwave irradiation through the Biginelli three-component cyclocondensation. Compared with the classical solution-phase Biginelli reactions, the yields could be considerably improved and the reaction time could be shortened dramatically under microwave promotion in a liquid-phase protocol. Moreover, the polymer-supported synthesis provided the target compounds in high purity.

Abstract:A facile and efficient one-pot synthesis of 3-(furan-2-yl)-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones was developed. The reaction of ethyl 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-oxopropanoates and 2,5-dimethoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran were performed in presence of K10 Montmorillonite Clay heterogeneous catalyst under the solvent-free condition at 80 degrees C for 1 h, and followed by further converted to 3-(furan-2-yl)-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones via refluxing in the alkaline EtOH solution for 0.5 h. The demonstrate method not only avoided the usage of any expensive transition-metals, but also eliminated the tedious intermediate purification. Moreover, due to the wide functional group tolerance, it could be applied to various substrates and gave product in good to excellent yields. (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract:The acid-catalyzed intramolecular oxa-Michael addition of (E)-1-aryl-4-hydroxy-4-methyl-pent-1-en-3-ones under solvent-free and microwave irradiation conditions has been investigated. The results showed that Bronsted acids are more efficient than Lewis acids in this reaction. Up to 90% conversion and 81% yield were obtained using trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (triflic acid) as the catalyst, with short reaction times and an environmentally benign procedure.

Abstract:<p>A one-pot efficient biocatalytic strategy for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1<em>H</em>)-ones was developed in a circulating microwave reactor selecting α-chymotrypsin as the promiscuous biocatalyst. In the circulating reaction system, the combination of microwave heating and external cooling could avoid the denaturation and inactivation of enzyme, and greatly improved the radiation power of microwave, thus improving the specific effects of microwave. During the reaction process, the microwave radiation power was automatically adjusted by adjusting the speed of the reaction mixture circulation. When the microwave power was maintained at 110 W, the best results could be obtained with the highest yield of 96% at 55 °C in 50 min, and the reaction had a wide range of substrates. But no obvious product was detected in a tank microwave reactor at 55 °C for 100 min, under this condition, the microwave power was maintained at about 3 W. As a contrast, the reaction only obtained 63% yield in 55 °C oil bath for 96 h.</p>
