Abstract:The concept of the Perron complement of a nonnegative and irreducible matrix was introduced by Meyer in 1989 and it was used to construct an algorithm for computing the stationary distribution vector for Markov chains. Here properties of the generalized Perron complement of an n x n irreducible Z-matrix K are considered. First the result that the generalized Perron complements of K are irreducible Z-matrices is shown, and other properties are presented.

Meyer[1,2] in 1998 and it was used by him to a algorithm for computing the stationary distribution vector for Markov chain. M. Neumann[3] extended this concept to the extended Prron complement in 2000 and by this concept they get some very interesting results of the extended Prion complement of an irreducible inverse M-matrix. Here we generalize the extended Prron complement to the generalized Prron complement for any square matrix K at any number t where t isn't the eigenvalue of principal submatrix of K, and then we investigate its properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the Hermitian completely positive (HCP) matrix, which has a Hermitian completely positive (HCP) decomposition with all real and imaginary parts of the decomposition vectors being nonnegative. Some properties of the Hermitian completely positive matrix are given. A semidefinite algorithm is also proposed for checking whether a Hermitian matrix is HCP or not. If a matrix is not HCP, a certificate for it can be obtained; if it is, an HCP decomposition can be obtained.

Abstract:The paper studies the eigenvalue distribution of some special matrices. Tong in Theorem 1.2 of [Wen-ting Tong, On the distribution of eigenvalues of some matrices, Acta Math. Sinica (China), 20 (4) (1977) 273–275] gives conditions for an n×n matrix A∈SDn∪IDn to have |JR+(A)| eigenvalues with positive real part, and |JR-(A)| eigenvalues with negative real part. A counter-example is given in this paper to show that the conditions of the theorem are not true. A corrected condition is then proposed under which the conclusion of the theorem holds. Then the corrected condition is applied to establish some results about the eigenvalue distribution of the Schur complements of H-matrices with complex diagonal entries. Several conditions on the n×n matrix A and the subset α⊆N={1,2,…,n} are presented such that the Schur complement matrix A/α of the matrix A has |JR+(A)|-|JR+α(A)| eigenvalues with positive real part and |JR-(A)|-|JR-α(A)| eigenvalues with negative real part.

Abstract:As is well known, the Schur complements of strictly or irreducibly diagonally dominant matrices are H-matrices; however, the same is not true of generally diagonally dominant matrices. This paper proposes some conditions on the generally diagonally dominant matrix A and the subset alpha subset of {1, 2, ... , n} so that the Schur complement matrix A/alpha is an H-matrix. These conditions are then applied to decide whether a matrix is irreducible or not.

Abstract:For many applications, it is useful to know whether or not a matrix is an H-matrix. An algorithmic characterization of H-matrices was given by [Li et al.] This method is useful, but entails estimating an optimum value for a parameter @e, that plays a crucial role in the algorithm. In Part I of this paper, the authors present a new method which eliminates the arbitrary parameter and is an equivalent algorithmic characterization of H-matrices. A few examples are given to illustrate relative merits of the two methods. In Part II, the editor describes an alternative which seems to eliminate deficiencies in methods discussed in Part I.
