Abstract:The theory of Perron complement is very important in many fields such as control theory and computational mathematics. In this paper, some new estimates of diagonally dominant degree for the Perron complement of matrices are derived by using the entries and spectral radius of the original matrix, which are better than the corresponding ones obtained by Wang and Liu(J. Inequal. Appl. 2015:9, 2015). Finally, a numerical example is provided to confirm the theoretical results obtained in this paper.

Abstract:The concept of the Prron complement of a nonnegative and irreducible matrix was introduced by C.D. Meyer[1,2] in 1998 and it was used by him to a algorithm for computing the stationary distribution vector for Markov chain. M. Neumann[3] extended this concept to the extended Prron complement in 2000 and by this concept they get some very interesting results of the extended Prion complement of an irreducible inverse M-matrix. Here we generalize the extended Prron complement to the generalized Prron complement for any square matrix K at any number t where t isn't the eigenvalue of principal submatrix of K, and then we investigate its properties.

Abstract:The Schur complements of diagonally dominant matrices are diagonally dominant and the same is true for strictly doubly diagonally dominant matrices. These results may also be extended to the generalized strictly doubly diagonally dominant matrices. The purpose of this paper is to extend the above result to generalized doubly diagonally dominant matrices,that is,we show the Schur complement of a generalized doubly diagonally dominant matrix is also a diagonally dominant matrix under some conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the diagonal-Schur complement of a strictly doubly diagonally dominant matrix is strictly doubly diagonally dominant matrix. The same holds for the diagonal-Schur complement of a strictly generalized doubly diagonally dominant matrix and a nonsingular H-matrix. We point out that under certain assumptions, the diagonal-Schur complement of a strictly doubly (doubly product) γ-diagonally dominant matrix is also strictly doubly (doubly product) γ-diagonally dominant. Further, we provide the distribution of the real parts of eigenvalues of a diagonal-Schur complement of H-matrix. We also show that the Schur complement of a γ-diagonally dominant matrix is not always γ-diagonally dominant by a numerical example, and then obtain a sufficient condition to ensure that the Schur complement of a γ-diagonally dominant matrix is γ-diagonally dominant.

Abstract:It is known that the diagonal-Schur complements of strictly diagonally dominant matrices are strictly diagonally dominant matrices [J.Z. Liu, Y.Q. Huang, Some properties on Schur complements of H-matrices and diagonally dominant matrices, Linear Algebra Appl. 389 (2004) 365-380], and the same is true for nonsingular H-matrices [J.Z. Liu, J.C. Li, Z.T. Huang, X. Kong, Some properties of Schur complements and diagonal-Schur complements of diagonally dominant matrices, Linear Algebra Appl. 428 (2008) 1009-1030]. In this paper, we research the properties on diagonal-Schur complements of block diagonally dominant matrices and prove that the diagonal-Schur complements of block strictly diagonally dominant matrices are block strictly diagonally dominant matrices, and the same holds for generalized block strictly diagonally dominant matrices.

Abstract:It is well-known that the Schur complements of strictly diagonally dominant matrices are strictly diagonally dominant [D. Carlson, T. Markham, Schur complements of diagonally dominant matrices, Czech. Math. J. 29 (104) (1979) 246–251]; the same is true of generalized strictly diagonally dominant matrices [Jianzhou Liu, Yungqing Huang, Some properties on Schur complements of H-matrix and diagonally dominant matrices, Linear Algebra Appl. 389 (2004) 365–380]. In this paper, this result is extended to the block (strictly) diagonally dominant matrices and the generalized block (strictly) diagonally dominant matrices, that is, it is shown that the Schur complement of a block (strictly) diagonally dominant matrix is a block (strictly) diagonally dominant matrix and so is the Schur complement of a generalized block (strictly) diagonally dominant matrix.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of when the sub-direct sum of two strictly diagonally dominant P-matrices is a strictly diagonally dominant P-matrix is studied. In particular, it is shown that the subdirect sum of overlapping principal submatrices of strictly diagonally dominant P-matrices is a strictly diagonally dominant P-matrix. It is also established that the 2-subdirect sum of two totally nonnegative matrices is a totally nonnegative matrix under some conditions. It is obtained that a partial totally nonnegative matrix, whose graph of the specified entries is a monotonically labeled 2-chordal graph, has a totally nonnegative completion. Finally, a positive answer to the question (IV) in Fallat and Johnson [Shaun M. Fallat, C.R. Johnson, J.R. Torregrosa, A.M. Urbano, P-matrix completions under weak symmetry assumptions, Linear Algebra Appl. 312 (2000) 73–91] is given for P0-matrices.

Abstract:The problem of when the k-subdirect sum of a doubly diagonally dominant matrix (DDD matrix) is also a DDD matrix is studied. Some sufficient conditions are given. The same situation is analyzed for diagonally dominant matrices and strictly diagonally dominant matrices. Additionally, some conditions are also derived when card(S) > card(S-1) which was not studied by Bru, Pedroche and Szyld [Electron. J. Linear Algebra, 15:201-209, 2006]. Examples are given to illustrate the conditions presented.

Abstract:The result on the Geršgorin disc separation from the origin for strictly diagonally dominant matrices and their Schur complements in (Liu and Zhang in SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 27(3):665-674, 2005) is extended to nonstrictly diagonally dominant matrices and their Schur complements, showing that under some conditions the separation of the Schur complement of a nonstrictly diagonally dominant matrix is greater than that of the original grand matrix. As an application, the eigenvalue distribution of the Schur complement is discussed for nonstrictly diagonally dominant matrices to derive some significant conclusions. Finally, some examples are provided to show the effectiveness of theoretical results.
