Abstract:In this paper, we obtained a weakly generalized diagonally dominant matrix that must have at least one diagonally dominant row. Moreover, it is proved that this result can be improved under the condition of irreducibility.

Based on the traditional pseudodiagonalization,robust pseudodiagonalization is presented;necessary and sufficient condition for achieving robust diagonal dominance is deduced. Abstract:In matrix theory and numerical analysis there are two very famous and important results. One is Gersgorin circle theorem, the other is strictly diagonally dominant theorem. They have important application and research value, and have been widely used and studied. In this paper, we investigate generalized diagonally dominant matrices and matrix eigenvalue inclusion regions. A class of G-function pairs is proposed, which extends the concept of G-functions. Thirteen kind of G-function pairs are established. Their properties and characteristics are studied. By using these special G-function pairs, we construct a large number of sufficient and necessary conditions for strictly diagonally dominant matrices and matrix eigenvalue inclusion regions. These conditions and regions are composed of different combinations of G-function pairs, deleted absolute row sums and column sums of matrices. The results extend, include and are better than some classical results.

Abstract:A matrix over ring with identity has the consecutive-column (CC) property if for all k, all its relevant submatrices having k consecutive rows and the first k columns are invertible. Similarly, the consecutive-row (CR) is defined. In this paper, we show that a arbitrary m x n matrix has both CC and CR properties if and only if it admits a certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This factorization is unique. We also show that there is a mutual 1 - 1 relations between the matrices having CC and CR properties and this certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This bidiagonal factorization has important applications in computer aided geometry design, electrical network and many other fields.

Abstract:We consider invertible, row diagonally dominant real matrices and give inequalities on their minors and diagonal entries of their inverses. A very special case is that all diagonal entries of an inverse, of a row stochastic, row diagonally dominant and invertible matrix, are at least 1, with strict inequality at least when the dominance is strict. This was conjectured in international trade theory in economics and motivated the present work (though much more is proven). Some of the results generalize previously known facts for M -matrices.

Abstract:In this paper, we present two error bounds for the linear complementarity problems (LCPs) of locally doubly strictly diagonally dominant (LDSDD) matrices. The error bounds are based on two upper norm bounds for the inverse of LDSDD matrices by using a new reduction method. The core of the reduction method lies in the particularity of the LDSDD matrices, which allows us to turn the problem into computing the counterpart of k-order doubly strictly diagonally dominant (DSDD) matrices through partition and summation. Many numerical experiments with lots of random matrices are presented to show the efficiency and superiority of our results.

Abstract:Diagonally dominant matrices have many applications in systems and control theory. Linear dynamical systems with scaled diagonally dominant drift matrices, which include stable positive systems, allow for scalable stability analysis. For example, it is known that Lyapunov inequalities for this class of systems admit diagonal solutions. In this paper, we present an extension of scaled diagonally dominance to block partitioned matrices. We show that our definition describes matrices admitting block-diagonal solutions to Lyapunov inequalities and that these solutions can be computed using linear algebraic tools. We also show how in some cases the Lyapunov inequalities can be decoupled into a set of lower dimensional linear matrix inequalities, thus leading to improved scalability. We conclude by illustrating some advantages and limitations of our results with numerical examples.

Abstract:Summary. This paper introduces a new perspective on the study of computational problems related to diagonally dominant M-matrices by establishing some new entrywise perturbation results. If a diagonally dominant M-matrix is perturbed in a way that each off-diagonal entry and its row sums (i.e. the quantities of diagonal dominance) have small relative errors, we show that its determinant, cofactors, each entry of the inverse and the smallest eigenvalue all have small relative errors. The error bounds are given and they do not depend on any condition number. Applying this result to the studies of electrical circuits and tail probabilities of a queue whose embedded Markov chains is of GI/M/1 type, we discuss the relative sensitivity of the operating speed of circuits and of the percentile of the queue length, respectively.

Abstract:A new subclass of H -matrices named generalized (for shortly, ) matrices is introduced and some properties of matrices are presented. The relationship between matrices and other subclasses of H -matrices is studied. Moreover, the infinity norm bounds for the inverse of matrices are provided. Using the proposed infinity norm bounds, error bounds of the linear complementarity problems for matrices are given, which improve some existing results. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the validity of new results.

Abstract:We analyze the fulfillment of the simultaneous diagonalization (SD via congruence) property for any two real matrices, and develop sufficient conditions expressed in different way to those appeared in the last few years. These conditions are established under a different perspective, and in any case, they supplement and clarify other similar results published elsewhere. Following our point of view reflected in a previous work, we offer some necessary and sufficient conditions, different in nature to those in Jiang and Li (SIAM J Optim 26:1649–1668, 2016), for SD: roughly speaking our approach is more geometric and needs to compute images and kernels of matrices; whereas that in Jiang and Li (SIAM J Optim 26:1649–1668, 2016) requires to compute determinant and canonical forms. The bidimensional situation is particularly analyzed, providing new more precise characterizations than those in higher dimension and joint those given earlier by the authors. In addition, we also establish the connection of our characterization of SD with that provided in Jiang and Li (SIAM J Optim 26:1649–1668, 2016).

Explicit inverse of symmetric, tridiagonal near Toeplitz matrices Part II: with weakly diagonally dominant Toeplitz

Abstract:In this paper, we provide explicit formulas for the exact inverses of the symmetric tridiagonal near-Toeplitz matrices characterized by weak diagonal dominance in the Toeplitz part. Furthermore, these findings extend to scenarios where the corners of the near Toeplitz matrices lack diagonal dominance ($|\widetilde{b}| < 1$). Additionally, we compute the row sums and traces of the inverse matrices, thereby deriving upper bounds for their infinite norms. To demonstrate the practical applicability of our theoretical results, we present numerical examples addressing numerical solution of the Fisher problem using the fixed point method. Our findings reveal that the convergence rates of fixed-point iterations closely align with the expected rates, and there is minimal disparity between the upper bounds and the infinite norm of the inverse matrix. Specifically, this observation holds true for $|b| = 2$ with $|\widetilde{b}| \geq 1$. In other cases, there exists potential to enhance the obtained upper bounds.

A Matrix Generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya Rearrangement Inequality and Its Applications

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya rearrangement inequality to positive definite matrices. The inequality can be seen as a commutation principle in the sense of Iusem and Seeger. An important instrument in the proof is a first-order perturbation formula for a certain spectral function, which could be of independent interests. The inequality is then extended to rectangular matrices. Using our main results, we derive new inequalities for several distance-like functions encountered in various signal processing or machine learning applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new subclass of $ H $-matrices called $ {SDD_k} $ matrices, which contains $ {SDD} $ matrices and $ {SDD_1} $ matrices as special cases, and present some properties of $ {SDD_k} $ matrices. Based on these properties, we also provide new infinity norm bounds for the inverse of $ {SDD} $ matrices and $ {SDD_k} $ matrices. It is proved that these new bounds are better than some existing results in some cases. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.
