Abstract:The ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST) has become one of the major scientific events in the area of Virtual Reality since its debut in 1994. VRST 2010, held during 22-24 November, 2010, is the seventeenth VRST conference. We are very pleased to have VRST 2010 return to Hong Kong (since 1996, 2002 and 2004). The VRST technical program consists of high quality technical papers that are carefully reviewed and selected by an International Program Committee. Each paper in the program was reviewed by three to four members of the committee. This year, we received a total of 103 submissions (71 full papers and 32 short papers) from 50 countries. The International Program Committee was made up of 60 experts and researchers in virtual reality and related areas. The committee accepted a total of 18 full papers (representing an acceptance rate of 25.3%). In addition, it also recommended accepting 15 short papers and 10 posters/demonstrations.

Abstract:ACM Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST) is an annual conference devoted to the technical aspects of virtual reality. The first VRST was held in Singapore in 1994 and since then it has been held in Japan, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Taiwan, England, Korea, and Canada. This year is the ninth VRST annual conference, which is co-hosted in Hong Kong, China, a dynamic city of over 6 million people and a meeting point of Eastern and Western cultures. VRST 2002 aims at bringing together researchers from both east and west continents to present the state-of-the-art VR advances in this fast-growing dynamic area.The VRST technical program consists of high quality technical papers that are reviewed and selected by an International Program Committee. Each paper in the program was reviewed by three members of the International Program Committee and invited reviewers. Of the 105 papers submitted, the committee selected 26 for inclusion in the program.

We are also very honored to welcome two distinguished keynote speakers: Dr. Pushmeet Kohli from Microsoft Research Cambridge and Prof. Niloy J. Mitra from University College London.

Abstract:The ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST) is an international forum for the exchange of experience and knowledge among researchers and developers concerned with virtual reality software and technology. This year, VRST 2013 has been organized in Singapore by The Institute for Media Innovation, at the Nanyang Technological University. VRST will provide an opportunity for VR researchers to interact, share new results, show live demonstrations of their work, and discuss emerging directions for the field.

Abstract:This Editorial introduces the motivation and organization process of the special issue on intelligent robotic systems. The major contributions of the six papers published in the special issue are discussed. In these papers, three papers present recent progresses in robot navigation and localization in complex environments. One paper reports a new robot sensing approach. The other two papers address the problems in robot dynamics modeling and service modeling in human-robot interaction.

Abstract:We are happy to introduce this Special Issue, "Intelligent Surfaces for 5G and Beyond," to the readers of IEEE Wireless Communications. The objective of this Special Issue is to report on the latest, most promising research advances, major challenges, and recent advancements in modeling, analysis, design, and implementation of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) empowered wireless communication networks, as well as point out new research directions in this emerging research area. After a rigorous review process, 12 articles have been accepted, and they cover many subtopics within this research field. In particular, some of the articles focus on mobile edge computing, while others focus on the applications of RISs on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), high-speed trains, and free space optical communication systems. The remaining articles focus on the optimization and channel estimation, as well as on future sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication systems. Many fine papers could not be included in this Special Issue due to space constraints. We anticipate seeing them in other publication venues.

Abstract:The 9TH AAAC Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction 2021 was held in a virtual format in the fall of 2021. It was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and featured the recent work on Affective Computing. The six best papers from this conference were selected by the technical program chairs. They were invited to submit their extended version to be considered for this special section at the IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing. Each submission was reviewed by at least three expert reviewers and was evaluated in terms of overall contribution and the adequacy of the additional content to warrant a new article. This special section features five accepted submissions whose major contributions are summarized below.

Virtual Reality Continuum emphasizes on the consistence of virtual world and the real world. Spanning across next-generation info-communication environments like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Virtuality (AV), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), Virtual Reality Continuum is the key in the way we define and interact with and within the virtual world.
