Abstract:This volume contains the proceedings of the 2007 Symposium on Point-Based Graphics (PBG07), held September 2-3 in Prague, Czech Republic, and being co-located with Eurographics and the International Workshop on Volume Graphics (VG07). As observed within the last years, both the availability and complexity of high-resolution geometric models continue to increase rapidly, thereby provoking further research in the field of point-based graphics. As the fourth symposium of its series, PBG07 tries to demonstrate the benefits of point primitives for modeling, simulation, rendering, and other computer graphics and geometry processing applications.Responding to our call for papers, we received 26 complete submissions from all around the world. Each paper was reviewed by four members of our international program committee, and based on their recommendations the papers chairs made the final selection of 14 high-quality papers included in these proceedings. Like in 2006, the best papers of PBG07 will be selected at the conference, and will be additionally published in a special issue of Computers & Graphics.

Abstract:A parallel simulation user environment (PSUE) has been developed for unstructured grid‐based computational simulation. Arbitrary computer application software can be integrated into the environment to provide a multi‐disciplinary engineering analysis capability within one unified computational framework. It provides an enhanced capability for complex and multiple problem definition, a graphics environment for guidance through the grid generation process with visual validation of each step, and robust and computationally efficient unstructured grid generation modules. This paper addresses an interactive geometry utility environment (IGUE), which is the primary part of the PSUE, providing sophisticated graphical user interfaces with geometric handling capability oriented to the unstructured grid technology. The IGUE is equipped with windowing functionality from the X‐Window system, and its underpinning data structure is based on non‐manifold topology. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract: Non-photorealistic computer graphics has created an intriguing new field espousing expression, abstraction and stylization in preference to traditional computer graphics concerns about photorealism. It has two complimentary goals: the communication of information using images and rendering images in interesting and novel visual styles which are free from the traditional computer graphics constraint of producing images which are life-like. Many artistic and visual styles have been realized in non-photorealistic computer graphics, including interactive and automated systems for drawing and painting [Sayeed & Howard, 2006]. There is an international symposium NPAR (non-photorealistic animation and rendering) dedicated to non-photorealistic computer graphics, sponsored by the ACM SIGGRAPH and in co-operation with Eurographics. In 2009 it is the second time for NPAR to be collocated with SIGGRAPH, and this allows us to raise attention to this important field, and to open it to new people from academia, arts and industry.

Abstract:The papers in this special section focus on software testing and program analysis. Software plays an integral part in our lives today because of its near-ubiquitous influence on our increasingly technological society. Taking appropriate steps to improve software quality is, therefore, of paramount importance. This has fueled the demand for techniques in software testing and program analysis. To meet the demand, there has been a surge in the study and development of techniques such as test case generation, static and dynamic program analysis, and test case prioritization. However, these techniques are still suffering from immaturity and impracticality. Test case generation can hardly be automated; efficiency and state-explosion are still the biggest concerns for most program analysis; and the effectiveness of test case prioritization is still based on small empirical comparisons. Furthermore, the vast majority of empirical studies available on the subject are lab based. Researchers typically evaluate their techniques based on simplified assumptions and selected subject programs that do not necessarily reflect the complexity of large-scale, industrial software. These shortcomings have prevented contemporary software testing and program analysis techniques from yielding truthful benefits to the software in the real world.
