Abstract:This paper deals with superminimal surfaces in complex space forms by using theFrenet framing. We formulate explicitly the length squares of the higher fundamental forms andthe higher curvatures for superminimal surfaces in terms of the metric of the surface and the Khlerangle of the immersion. Particularly, some curvature pinching theorems for minimal 2-spheres in acomplex projective space are given and a new characterization of the Veronese sequence is obtained.

Abstract:We extend Smale's singular bridge principle (see \cite{NS2}) for $n$-dimensional strictly stable minimal cones in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ $(n \geq 7$) to arbitrary codimension when $n \geq 4$. We then apply the procedure to copies of the Lawson-Osserman cone to produce a four dimensional minimal graph in $\mathbb{R}^7$ with any finite number of isolated singularities.

Abstract: Lawson-Osserman constructed three types of non-parametric minimal cones of high codimensions based on Hopf maps between spheres, which correspond to Lipschitz but non-differentiable solutions to the minimal surface equations, thereby making sharp contrast to the regularity theorem for minimal graphs of codimension 1. In this paper, we develop the constructions in a more general scheme. Once a mapping f between unit spheres is composited of a harmonic Riemannian submersion and a homothetic (i.e., up to a constant factor, isometric) minimal immersion, certain twisted graph of f can yield a non-parametric minimal cone. Because the choices of the second component usually form a huge moduli space, our constructions produce a constellation of uncountably many examples. For each such cone, there exists an entire minimal graph whose tangent cone at infinity is just the given one. Moreover, new phenomena on the existence, non-uniqueness and non-minimizing of solutions to the related Dirichlet problem are discovered.

Abstract:We describe combinatorial aspects of classical resolution of singularities that are free of characteristic and can be applied to singular foliations and vector fields as well as to functions and varieties. In particular, we give a combinatorial version of Hironaka’s maximal contact theory in terms of characteristic polyhedra systems and we show the global existence of maximal contact in this context.

Abstract:We study the notion of algebraic tangent cones at singularities of reflexive sheaves. These correspond to extensions of reflexive sheaves across a negative divisor. We show the existence of optimal extensions in a constructive manner, and we prove the uniqueness in a suitable sense. The results here are an algebro-geometric counterpart of our previous study on singularities of Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections.

Abstract:We study the connection between Conway-Coxeter frieze patterns and the data of the minimal resolution of a complex curve singularity: using Popescu-Pampu's notion of the lotus of a singularity, we describe a bijection between the dual resolution graphs of Newton non-degenerate plane curve singularities and Conway-Coxeter friezes. We use representation theoretic reduction methods to interpret some of the entries of the frieze coming from the partial resolutions of the corresponding curve singularity. Finally, we translate the notion of mutation, coming from cluster combinatorics, to resolutions of plane complex curves.

Abstract:Let p be normal singularity of the 2-dimensional Stein space V. Let pi : M -> V be a minimal good resolution of V, such that the irreducible components A(i) of A = pi(-1)(p) are nonsingular and have only normal crossings. Associated to A is weighted dual graph Gamma which, along with the genera of the A(i), fully describes the topology and differentiable structure of A and the topological and differentiable nature of the embedding of A in M. It is well known that the simplest Gorenstein non-complete intersection singularities of dimension two are exactly those minimal elliptic singularities with fundamental cycle self intersection number -5. In this paper we classify all weighted dual graphs of these singularities. In particular, we prove that there is no integral homology link structure in the class of simplest Gorenstein non-complete intersection singularities of dimension two.

Abstract:Caffarelli-Hardt-Simon used the minimal surface equation on the Simons cone $C(S^3\times S^3)$ to generate newer examples of minimal hypersurfaces with isolated singularities. Hardt-Simon proved that every area-minimizing quadratic cone $\mathcal{C}$ having only an isolated singularity can be approximated by a unique foliation of $\mathbb R^{n+1}$ by smooth, area-minimizing hypersurfaces asymptotic to $\mathcal C$. This paper uses methods similar to Caffareli-Hardt-Simon to solve the minimal surface equation for the Hardt-Simon surfaces in the sphere for some boundary values. We use gluing methods to construct minimal surfaces over Hardt-Simon surfaces and near quadratic cones.

Abstract:We compute the minimal exponent of the affine cone over a complete intersection of smooth projective hypersurfaces intersecting transversely. The upper bound for the minimal exponent is proved, more generally, in the weighted homogeneous setting, while the lower bound is deduced from a general lower bound in terms of a strong factorizing resolution in the sense of Bravo and Villamayor.

Abstract:This is a very brief report on recent developments on the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surface system and minimal cones in Euclidean spaces. We shall mainly focus on two directions: (1) Further systematic developments after Lawson-Osserman's paper \cite{l-o} on the Dirichlet problem for minimal graphs of high codimensions. Aspects including non-existence, non-uniqueness and irregularity properties of solutions have been explored from different points of view. (2) Complexities and varieties of area-minimizing cones in high codimensions. We shall mention interesting history and exhibit some recent results which successfully furnished new families of minimizing cones of different types.

Abstract:We obtain the instability of Type (II) Lawson-Osserman cones in Euclidean spaces, and thus provide a family of (uncountably many) unstable solutions with singularity to the Dirichlet problem for minimal graphs of high codimension versus smooth unstable ones by Lawson-Osserman through a min-max technique. To our knowledge, these are the first examples of non-smooth unstable minimal graphs and unlikely detectible through the mean curvature flow or min-max theory.

Abstract:Using the Lawson's existence theorem of minimal surfaces and the symmetries of the Hopf fibration, we will construct symmetric embedded closed minimal surfaces in the three dimensional sphere. These surfaces contain the Clifford torus, the Lawson's minimal surfaces, and seven new minimal surfaces with genera 9, 25, 49, 121, 121, 361 and 841. We will also discuss the relation between such surfaces and the maximal extendable group actions on subsurfaces of the three dimensional sphere.
