Abstract:We characterize the smallest finite spaces with the same homotopy groups of the spheres. Similarly, we describe the minimal finite models of any finite graph. We also develop new combinatorial techniques based on finite spaces to study classical invariants of general topological spaces.

Abstract:We introduce a model category of spaces based on the definable sets of an o-minimal expansion of a real closed field. As a model category, it resembles the category of topological spaces, but its underlying category is a coherent topos. We will show in future work that its cofibrant objects are precisely the "weak polytopes" of Knebusch.

Abstract:In \cite{Barmak(2007),Barmak(2011)}, Barmak extensively investigates the minimal finite models of the n-dimensional sphere $S^n$ for all $n\geq 0$ and establishes the minimal finite model of the wedge sum of unit circles $\bigvee\limits_{i= 1}^{n} S^{1}$. In this work, we demonstrate that the minimal finite model of the M$\ddot{\rm{o}}$bius band coincides with the minimal finite model of the unit circle $S^1$. Furthermore, we establish that the minimal finite models of the spaces $S^{2}\vee S^{1}$, $S^{2}\vee S^{2}$ consist of only seven points, while the minimal finite models of the spaces $S^{1}\vee S^{1}\vee S^{2}$ and $S^{2}\vee S^{2}\vee S^{1}$ contain eight points. Additionally, we thoroughly discuss all the necessary homotopy groups and homology groups of the aforementioned spaces to provide a comprehensive and self-contained presentation in the paper.

On Rigid Minimal Spaces

Abstract:A compact space X is said to be minimal if there exists a map f : X → X such that the forward orbit of any point is dense in X. We consider rigid minimal spaces, motivated by recent results of Downarowicz, Snoha and Tywoniuk (J Dyn Differ Equ, 29:243-257, 2017) on spaces with cyclic group of homeomorphisms generated by a minimal homeomorphism, and results of the first author, Clark and Oprocha (Adv Math, 335:261-275, 2018) on spaces in which the square of every homeomorphism is a power of the same minimal homeomorphism. We show that the two classes do not coincide, which gives rise to a new class of spaces that admit minimal homeomorphisms, but no minimal maps. We modify the latter class of examples to show for the first time existence of minimal spaces with degenerate homeomorphism groups. Finally, we give a method of constructing decomposable compact and connected spaces with cyclic group of homeomorphisms, generated by a minimal homeomorphism, answering a question in Downarowicz et al.

Abstract:Without leaving finite mathematics and using finite topological spaces only, we give a definition of homeomorphisms of finite abstract simplicial complexes or finite graphs. Besides exploring the definition in various contexts, we add some remarks like that the general Lefschetz formula works for any continuous map on any finite topological space. We also noted that any higher order Wu characteristic as well as their cohomology are topological invariants which are not homotopy invariants. Energy theorems allow to express these topological invariants in terms of interaction energies of local open sets.

Nested homotopy models of finite metric spaces and their spectral homology

Abstract:For a real $r\geq 0,$ we consider the notion of $r$-homotopy equivalence in the category quasimetric spaces, which includes metric spaces and directed graphs. We show that for a finite quasimetric space $X$ there is a unique (up to isometry) $r$-homotopy equivalent quasimetric space of the minimal possible cardinality. It is called the $r$-minimal model of $X$. We use this to construct a decomposition of the magnitude-path spectral sequence of a digraph into a direct sum of spectral sequences with certain properties. We also construct an $r$-homotopy invariant ${\rm SH}^r_{n,I}(X)$ of a quasimetric space $X,$ called spectral homology, that generalizes many other invariants: the pages of the magnitude-path spectral sequence, including path homology, magnitude homology, blurred magnitude homology and reachability homology.

Abstract:This volume deals with the theory of finite topological spaces and its relationship with the homotopy and simple homotopy theory of polyhedra. The interaction between their intrinsic combinatorial and topological structures makes finite spaces a useful tool for studying problems in Topology, Algebra and Geometry from a new perspective. In particular, the methods developed in this manuscript are used to study Quillen’s conjecture on the poset of p-subgroups of a finite group and the Andrews-Curtis conjecture on the 3-deformability of contractible two-dimensional complexes. This self-contained work constitutes the first detailed exposition on the algebraic topology of finite spaces. It is intended for topologists and combinatorialists, but it is also recommended for advanced undergraduate students and graduate students with a modest knowledge of Algebraic Topology.

Cohomology of minimal Sullivan algebras of non-finite type and their realizations

Abstract:We prove that the morphisms from a minimal Sullivan algebra $\Lambda V$ to $A_{PL}(|\Lambda V|)$, the algebra of polynomial differential forms on its realization, can be quasi-isomorphic if and only if the cohomology $H(\Lambda V)$ is of finite type. Importantly, $\Lambda V$ itself need not be of finite type. For example, it can be the minimal Sullivan model of the wedge sum of a circle and a sphere. This provides a negative answer to a question posed by Félix, Halperin, and Thomas. Furthermore, we study the spaces whose homotopy groups are reflected by their minimal Sullivan models as a generalization of Sullivan spaces, and explore which properties of Sullivan spaces can be broadened.

Minimal models for minimal BCOV theories

Abstract:Minimal BCOV theory is a classical field theory which describes a subclass of deformations of the category of perfect complexes on a Calabi-Yau variety. We compute minimal models for $L_\infty$-algebras describing minimal BCOV theory and its variants on flat space and find that they give certain $L_\infty$-extensions of the infinite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebra $\operatorname{SHO}(d|d)$. We apply this computation to compare an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ action on an odd two-dimensional central extension of $\operatorname{SHO}(3|3)$ first discovered by Kac to an action of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on a variant of minimal BCOV theory previously found by the authors.

Abstract:In this article we introduce a definition of topological minimal sets, which is a generalization of that of Mumford-Shah-minimal sets. We prove some general properties as well as two existence theorems for topological minimal sets. As an application we prove the topological minimality of the union of two almost orthogonal planes in $\R^4$, and use it to improve the angle criterion under which the union of several higher dimensional planes is Almgren-minimal.

Abstract:Let TC$_n$(X) denote the n-th topological complexity of a topological space X. It is known that TC$_n$(X) does not exceed n-1 for non-contractible X, and so it makes sense to describe spaces X with TC$_n$(X) =n-1. Grant--Lupton--Oprea proved the following: If X is a nilpotent space with TC$_n$(X)=n-1 then X is homotopy equivalent to an odd-dimensional sphere. Here we made an attempt to get rid of nilpotency condition and prove the following: If TC$_n$(X) =n-1 then either X is homotopy equivalent to a sphere of odd dimension or is a homology circle with the infinite cyclic fundamental group.

Generic Compacta from Relations between Finite Graphs: Theory Building and Examples

Abstract:In recent work, the authors developed a simple method of constructing topological spaces from certain well-behaved partially ordered sets -- those coming from sequences of relations between finite sets. This method associates a given poset with its spectrum, which is a compact T_1 topological space. In this paper, we focus on the case where such finite sets have a graph structure and the relations belong to a given graph category. We relate topological properties of the spectrum to combinatorial properties of the graph categories involved. We then utilise this to exhibit elementary combinatorial constructions of well-known continua as Fraïssé limits of finite graphs in categories with relational morphisms.

Persistent Sullivan Minimal Models of Metric Spaces

Abstract:This is a note of the author's ongoing work on persistent Sullivan minimal models. Sullivan minimal models have been important tools in rational homotopy theory for representing topological spaces using simplified algebraic structures. In this note, we study persistent Sullivan minimal models for persistent spaces and establish their stability results. For the case of Vietoris-Rips filtrations arising from metric spaces, such stability results can provide a stronger lower bound estimate of the Gromov-Hausdorff distance between metric spaces than the standard persistent homology.

Towards Cohomology of Real Closed Spaces

Abstract:It was shown by Claus Scheiderer prior to 1994 that real closed spaces have étale cohomology. Following Scheiderer, study of real closed spaces fell out of fashion and o-minimal geometry became the focus for those at the intersection of model theory and geometry. I decided to breathe new life into the theory of real closed rings and spaces, as studied by Schwartz in 1989. In Section 1, I build the fundamentals of the theory using as little machinery as possible, and presented them as clearly as I could. Hidden gems include a full proof that real closed rings are closed under limits and colimits. In Section 2, I give an introduction to the category of real closed spaces in the first half. In the second half, I construct an equivalence of topoi between Scheiderer's sheaves on the real étale site, and sheaves on a real étale site $\rce/X$ of my creation. Since $\text{Sh}(\rce/X)$ can be defined without the use of $G$-topoi, the equivalence of topoi renders Scheiderer's theory computable. I end with a discussion of how one might use motivic cohomology to better understand recent results of Annette Huber in \cite{no_deRham_huber}.

Spherical objects in dimensions two and three

Abstract:This paper classifies spherical objects in various geometric settings in dimensions two and three, including both minimal and partial crepant resolutions of Kleinian singularities, as well as arbitrary flopping 3-fold contractions with only Gorenstein terminal singularities. The main result is much more general: in each such setting, we prove that all objects in the associated null category with no negative Ext groups are the image, under the action of an appropriate braid or pure braid group, of some object in the heart of a bounded t-structure. The corollary is that all objects which admit no negative Exts, and for which the self-Hom space is one dimensional, are the images of the simples. A variation on this argument goes further, and classifies all bounded t-structures. There are multiple geometric, topological and algebraic consequences, primarily to autoequivalences and stability conditions. Our main new technique also extends into representation theory, and we establish that in the derived category of a finite dimensional algebra which is silting discrete, every object with no negative Ext groups lies in the heart of a bounded t-structure. As a consequence, every semibrick complex can be completed to a simple minded collection.

Abstract:First, I will quickly recall some of the basic elements of the minimal model program. Then, I concentrate on the interactions between the minimal model program and some moduli problems. In particular, I explain the construction of moduli spaces of varieties of general type via the minimal model program. Abstract. The Hecke symmetry is a salient feature of Shimura varieties. In the more recent past these symmetries have led to the notion of leaves, a global structure on the reduction of modular varieties of PEL type defined by Oort, and conjecturally for all Shimura varieties with good reduction. The Hecke symmetry also led to the notion of canonical coordinates on leaves, generalizing the classical Serre-Tate coordinates. We will discuss some recent works related to the Hecke symmetry : (1) -adic and p-adic monodromy of leaves, and irreducibility of leaves (joint work with F. Oort). One of the methods for showing that the p-adic monodromy is big is inspired by H. Hida. (2) CM lifting modulo Hecke symmetry (joint work with B. Conrad and F. Oort). Abstract. In this lecture we explain how to attach a p-adic representation to a vector bundle with strongly semistable reduction of degree zero on a p-adic curve. We also discuss higher dimensional generalizations. This is a report on joint work with Annette Werner. Abstract. Since the proof of Iwasawa's main conjecture in the classical case (the- orem of Mazur and Wiles), automorphic forms on GL(2) have played an essential role to understand GL(1)-problems. After the breakthrough by A. Wiles ((1)), there has been a substantial progress in the class field theory for GL2. In this talk, open problems in classical Iwasawa theory are discussed from this perspective, based on Galois deformations.

In this article, we show that a smooth good minimal model has a holomorphic 1-form without zero if and only if it admits an analytic fiber bundle structure over a positive dimensional abelian variety.
