Abstract:After quick survey of some key results and open questions about the structure of singularities of minimal surfaces, we discuss recent work~\cite{Sim23} on singularities of stable minimal hypersurfaces, including some simplifications of the main technical discussion in~\cite{Sim23}.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the structure and properties of the singular set of minimal submanifolds. Specifically, the paper explores the latest work on the singularities of stable minimal hypersurfaces, including some simplifications of the main technical discussions. The main contribution of the paper lies in proving that in high - dimensional spaces, there exist complete stable minimal hypersurfaces with very "bad" singular sets, for example, the singular set can be of fractional dimension. ### Background and Problem Description of the Paper 1. **Basic Concepts of Minimal Submanifolds** - A minimal submanifold refers to a submanifold within a given region where the first variation of the area functional is zero. - The singular set refers to the set of non - smooth points on the submanifold. 2. **Known Results** - For the low - dimensional case (such as dimension \( M\leq6\)), the singular set is discrete. - For the high - dimensional case (such as dimension \( n\geq8\)), the dimension of the singular set is no more than \( n - 7\). - In some special cases, the singular set is countable or has a specific fractal dimension. 3. **Unsolved Problems** - In the high - dimensional case, the specific structure and properties of the singular set are still unclear. - In particular, whether there exist minimal submanifolds with very "bad" singular sets, for example, the singular set can be of fractional dimension. ### Main Theorems The main theorems of the paper are as follows: - **Main Theorem** - Let \( n\geq7\), \(\ell\geq1\), \( K\subset\mathbb{R}^\ell\) be an arbitrary closed set, and \(\varepsilon>0\). Then there exists a smooth metric \( g=\sum_{i,j = 1}^{n + 1+\ell}g_{ij}dx_idx_j\) satisfying \( |g_{ij}-\delta_{ij}|<\varepsilon\) and \( |D^kg_{ij}|<C_k\varepsilon\) (for each \( k = 1,2,\ldots\)), such that there exists a smooth embedded hypersurface \( M\subset\mathbb{R}^{n + 1+\ell}\) which is minimal and stable with respect to the metric \( g\), and its singular set \(\text{sing}M=\{0\}\times K\). ### Main Contributions of the Paper 1. **Construction Method** - By constructing a specific smooth function \( h\) and the corresponding solution \( u\), the paper shows how to construct minimal hypersurfaces with specific singular sets in high - dimensional spaces. - Use the solutions of the Symmetric Minimal Surface Equation (SME) to construct these hypersurfaces. 2. **Choice of Metric** - The paper discusses in detail how to choose an appropriate metric \( g\) so that the constructed hypersurface \( M\) is minimal and stable under this metric. 3. **Properties of the Singular Set** - Prove that the singular set can be very "bad", for example, it can be of fractional dimension, which provides a new perspective for understanding the singular structure of high - dimensional minimal submanifolds. ### Conclusion Through the construction method and metric selection, this paper successfully shows that there exist minimal hypersurfaces with very "bad" singular sets in high - dimensional spaces. This result not only enriches the theory of minimal submanifolds but also provides new tools and methods for further studying the properties of the singular set.
