Abstract:The laser alignment technique is widely used in the measurement of straightness due to its unique capabilities of non-contact detection, fast response and high accuracy. By coupling the laser beam into a single-mode fiber, traditional alignment method can be greatly improved, since the emitting beam from the fiber basically won’t be affected by the variation of the incident intensity distribution. However, such method still suffers from errors caused by the vibration of the emitting fiber end and air turbulence. In this paper, the traditional alignment reference, which is the centroid of the intensity distribution, is replaced by center of the dark spot in a diffraction pattern, by adding a spiral phase plate (SPP) into the optical path. The center of the dark spot is proved to be stationary when the laser beam drifts. The far-field diffraction model of SPP is theoretically analyzed in detail. In the calibration experiments, the detected position data of the scanned CCD is highly linear with a correlation coefficient of 0.99999. The system is guaranteed with outstanding stability by a series of experiments, in which the standard deviation of the x and y coordinates are respectively only 7.0% and 33.7% in short-term tests and 20.3% and 25.3% in long-term tests. With simple configuration, the proposed system demonstrates satisfying performance in laser alignment.
High-Accuracy Method for Measuring Two-Dimensional Angles of A Linear Guideway

Abstract:A single method for simultaneously measuring 2-D rotational angles is proposed by using a collimation laser. Compared with the traditional autocollimator measurement method, the proposed method can also be applied to longer distance and higher precision angular measurement. The 2-D angular drift of the reference datum beam is suppressed by a factor of 10 via expansion. A traditional single lens in front of the detector is replaced by combination lenses to increase the sensitivity and compactibility. The measurement principle of the 2-D angles is also analyzed. The feasibility and stability of the presented system are verified by comparison with the Renishaw ML10 laser interference measuring system. The experimental results show that the linear correlativity is 0.99999 and the point-to-point standard deviation error is less than +/- 0.2 arcsec in a +/- 60-arcsec range and 2000-mm distance. This proposal is most advantageous for simultaneous long distance and high accuracy of 2-D angular errors measurement of a linear guide manner. Abstract:The rapid development of modern science and technology puts forward higher and higher requirements for displacement measurement. As a non-contact measurement technology, laser ranging has played an important role in various fields for the unique advantages and has become a hot topic in the field of measurement research. At present, there are little research on high-precision displacement measurement at medium and long distance, the needs of which are widespread in practical application, so this work has important value. Among various laser ranging technologies, the laser triangulation method has the advantages of high-speed, high precision, simple structure, etc. Therefore, this paper chooses the direct laser triangulation method to carry out the research after analyzed the common types of laser triangulation system. In view of the requirements of high-precision displacement measurement requirements at medium and long distance, this article discussed the design of laser triangulation measuring system and the selection of structural parameters. Then we proposed a direct laser triangulation measurement structure under Scheimpflug conditions. This system selects PSD displacement transducer to collect the position information of the scattered light spot. After that, this paper discusses the principle of laser triangulation distance measurement and simulates the system. Then the influence of different parameters on high-precision displacement measurement and the relationship between them are investigated. Based on the research talked above, we got a set of structural parameters of the displacement measurement system. The measurement accuracy can be ~micron with the working distance of 500mm.

Abstract:A novel method for measuring four-degree-of-freedom geometric errors of a linear stage is put forward. A single-mode fiber-coupled laser module is used, and the laser beam from this laser module is highly stable, and can be used as the reference line for straightness error and angular error measurements. Only a corner retro-reflector and a beam splitter are adopted in the moving target in order to sense the straightness errors and angular errors. In this way, the horizontal and vertical straightness errors as well as yaw and pitch errors can be measured simultaneously. At the same time, there is no cable connection in the moving target, which gives a great convenience in the workshop measurements. The four-degree-of-freedom measuring system (FDMS) based on the above method has been developed, and the system has the resolution of less than 0.1 micrometer for straightness error measurement and 0.5 arc-sec for angular error measurement. The stability, repeatability experiments and the comparison experiments with API 5D laser measuring system were done. Experimental results and theoretical analyses showed that the measurement accuracies of straightness error and angular errors are about±1.0 μm/m and±0.5 ″respectively within the measurement range of 2 m.

Abstract:The laser technique based sensors and actuators can provide many superior properties as noncontact, high sensitivity, remote operation, and reliable performance in contrast to other mechanical and electrical techniques. In this paper, we design and fabricate a high-precision 360 degrees laser receiver for leveling, especially for agricultural and construction field. The laser receiver is primarily composed of photoelectrical conversion module, electrical signal processing module, and display panel module. Based on the centroid method, the detection error of the laser receiver with respect to laser source and silicon photocell array, is analyzed and simulated. The design and fabrication process are described in detail, including the overall structure and electrical circuits. Furthermore, this fabricated laser receiver is demonstrated to be high precision through several static and dynamic tests in the distance of 10 and 50 m. Besides, this fabricated laser possesses wireless transmission function, which provides much convenient for users in remote operation.

Abstract:In this paper,according to the principle of distance measuring using triangulation,a suit of distance measuring using single-point laser triangulation system based on CMOS is designed through the technique of MCU.The hardware of the system and the structure of the software are described in detail,due to the non-linear characteristic of the used light-sensitive transducer′s calibration curve,the method of using piecewise linear line to approximate calibration curve is given,at last,the results of the experiment are introduced and it is analyzed the relation between every parameter and experimental precision.The results of the experiment prove the feasibility of the idea,the measurement error of this method is less than 3%.
Error Correction Of Laser Scanning System For Reverse Engineering

Abstract:The current commercial laser probe is mounted on a computer controlled milling machine and the CAD/CAM integration can be easily achieved for the purpose of reverse engineering. As the laser probe is based on optical triangulation, the sensors are very sensitive to the parameters of the measured object, including color, material, roughness and relative angle between the laser beam and the object. We analyze the above-mentioned factors influencing the accuracy of the laser probes by simulation and experiment relatively. First, model of the systematic errors is developed based on principle of the optical triangulation and the simulation results of the model are given out. Then, experiments are carried out on the measurement error of the laser probe with respect to the color, material, roughness and the surface inclination. Finally, a software correction is applied the experimental calibration to the coordinate value of the measured point. The results show that the simulation model has the same changing trend as the experiment. The calibration to the laser probe by using the error correction method can improve the measurement accuracy for the free-form surfaces.
CCD Vision Based Surface Geometry Tracking for Real Time Navigation of CNC Machining

Abstract:This paper describes a method of fast in-process measurement of surface geometry features such as orientation and standoff of workpieces using simple shape analysis of a projected light spot by CCD vision. This is aimed to on-line navigate the CNC or robotic machining path in a 3-D environment. Further, the high temperature, visible light emitting hot spot or meltpool produced during laser processing was used to abstract information on position and orientation of the processing centre point on the workpiece. The information was used directly as well as compared to the tracking (leading) beam spot for the closed loop predictive control of the CNC processing. Other information such as edge, hole, bend, corner presence can also be detected using knowledge based heuristics. Theoretical study and experimental performance of the developed system are presented.
Aberration Analysis and Adjustment of Non-Spherical Lens in the Linear Ccds Three-Dimensional Measurement System

Abstract:Linear CCDs three-dimensional measurement system is constituted with three one dimensional imaging units (ODIUs) composed of charge-couple device (CCD) linear image sensor paired with equivalent cylindrical lens cells. The cylindrical lens is needed for optical transformation from object point to its realistic image line in the ODIU, and the imaging quality of equivalent cylindrical lens (width and distortion aberration of the image line) directly affected the reconstruction precision of three dimension coordinates. At present, the methods of how to design an equivalent cylindrical lens with both high precision and wide field of view were not reported in literatures. An improved Double Gauss structured lenses by replacing the first spherical lens in the traditional Double Gauss lenses with a cylindrical lens is introduced to realize the point to line optical transformation and aberration adjustment. The coma aberration and distortion can be automatically adjusted due to the structure symmetry of composite lenses, and the spherical aberration, astigmatism and curvature of field can also be largely adjusted by appropriately selecting material, luminous flux, curvature, thickness, and distance of lenses. Under the computer simulating by Zemax (an optical systems design software), the composite cylindrical lens was designed and fabricated. Finally, the three-dimensional positioning system made up of above-mentioned composite cylindrical lens and corresponding circuits is constructed, and the direct linear transformation (DLT) is adopted to three dimension coordinated reconstruction. The result of reconstruction error of X, Y, Z axis with in the view field of 700*760*500 mm. less than 1mm are obtained.

Abstract:Scientific instruments and facilities used for calibrating the dynamic angle error of inertial instruments have played more and more important roles in mechanism error research and accuracy improvement. Present attitude measurement methods can not simultaneously meet the requirements of the inertial instrument angle error calibration in dynamic environments such as linear or angular vibration. Based on the collaborative integration and modeling calculation of single-point laser Doppler vibrometer, this paper proposes a dynamic attitude measurement system that can completely realize non-contact real-time accurate three-dimensional rotation angle measurement, filling in the blank of non-contact dynamic angle error calibration of inertial instrument. Besides, we propose a distance calibration method to reduce the angle measurement error from 0.34 degrees to 0.0072 degrees, which fully satisfies the non-contact measurement requirements of the inertial instrument.

Abstract:Abstract On-site inspection with a laser displacement sensor installed on the spindle of a three-axis machine tool has found a wide range of applications in industrial processes. The calibration of the beam direction and the integration of the on-site scanned points are crucial for the measurement of free-form surfaces. This paper presents a method to calibrate the unit direction vector of the laser beam and integrate the on-site scanned points based on a standard ball. By scanning the fixed ball, a group of nonlinear equations is constructed. The nonlinear equations are solved by the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm to get the unit direction vector of the laser beam and the center position of the standard ball. Then the coordinate transformation parameters between the world coordinate system and the sensor coordinate system are calculated. The scanned points from different coordinate systems are transformed into the world coordinate system by the coordinate transformation. The method simplifies the traditional calibration process and realizes the integration of the multi-angle scanned points on a three-axis machine tool. The feasibility and effectiveness of this method are verified through simulation and practical experiment. By comparing fitting value under different measuring conditions with the nominal, the measurement parameters including the incident angle and the scan depth are optimized. In the experiment, the measurement accuracy of this method reaches 0.02 mm.

Abstract:For the conventional method of independently adjusting controlling parameters in multi-axis laser processing machine, it is difficult to guarantee the processing accuracy when performing large curvature trace or at high processing speed. This paper presented a new control method, which performed a circular path and calculated the roundness tolerances as the quantitative degree of adaptability between every two axles. Based on the roundness tolerances, a fully off-line parameter -adjustment technology for multi-axis system was developed, which has the characteristics of high accuracy, simple operation and low cost. This technology has been applied in open multi-axis laser processing NC system successfully.

Abstract:Aiming at the dimension measurement of image,a new high accuracy measurement technology based on area charge coupled device(CCD)and a measurement method by contrasting images are proposed.The dimension data of meas-ured parts are calculated by contrasting the images of standard parts and measured parts.By using the algorithm of subpixel based on polynomial interpolation and the technology of image contrast,the exact location of edge can be estimated within a pixel.An improved theoretical algorithm of subpixel based on polynomial interpolation is derived.An application sample in industry demonstrates that the maximum bias of the proposed procedure is 0.01 mm.

Abstract:Abstract Error compensation has become an important means of improving the manufacturing and processing accuracy of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. Quick and precise measurement of the various geometric motion errors (GMEs) of CNC machine tools is crucial. We propose a novel laser method for the efficient and direct high-precision measurement of the 21 GMEs of a three-axis CNC machine tool, or three linear axes of a five-axis tool. A corresponding system was developed, comprising a fiber-coupled laser unit, sensor head, target unit, and beam-steering unit. The beam-steering unit was designed to perform high-accuracy 90° rotation of the measuring beam, and the target unit was designed to be sensitive to 18 GMEs of the three linear axes. Stability, repeatability, and comparison experiments were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system. The results showed that the stability of the position error measurement is ± 6.3 nm. For straightness error measurement, the stability, repeatability error, and residual are within ± 60.3 nm, ± 0.5 μm, and ± 0.7 μm, respectively. These are within ± 0.12 arcsec, ± 0.5 arcsec, and ± 0.5 arcsec for the pitch and yaw measurements, and within ± 0.37 arcsec, ± 1.5 arcsec, and ± 1.0 arcsec for the roll measurements, respectively. For squareness error measurement, the repeatability error and residual are within ± 0.6 arcsec and ± 1.6 arcsec, respectively. Compared with a laser interferometer, the proposed system can measure the 21 GMEs of a three-axis machine tool with one-step installation. Without accuracy loss, the measurement efficiency is approximately 45 times higher than that of a laser interferometer, thus providing a new quick and accurate measurement method of GMEs and error compensation of CNC machine tools.

At present former static measurement methods with sliding guide have met with great difficulty when measuring the outline and large of large-scale workpiece or coordinates of objects moving in large dimension Thus we established the laser tracking system far high precision, large range, noncontact, dynamic measurement Laser tracking system involves in interdisciplinary knowledge and it can be made up, into a new type of computer integral system with both measuring and controlling capacity. With common static coordinate measurement system such as CMR[1], the probe must move along the three orthogonal guides equipped with standard rulers while the laser tracking system has no such objective reference coordinate system So we put forward the notion of "Virtual Coordinate System", that means during the measurement the coordinate frame is not fixed On the primary stage of our research, we established practical system for 2D moving target measurement in real-time. Tn order to measure the coordinate of the target three tracking stations are used which only measure length changes between the target and stations each, with no angles are measured By solving non-linear-least-square equations, the target and the lacking stations' coordinate can be attained respectively. We also present the optical design and the tracking controlling system based on the PID controlling principle. At the end of this paper, we will give the experiment result of the system.

Abstract:In the field of precision assembly of large & medium scale, the orientation and position measurement system is quite demanding. In this paper a novel measuring system, consisting of four motorized stages, a laser rangefinder, an autocollimator and a camera is proposed to assist precision assembly. Through the design of coaxial optical system, the autocollimator is integrated with a laser rangefinder into a collimation rangefinder, which is used for measuring orientation and position synchronously. The laser spot is adopted to guide autocollimation over a large space and assist the camera in finding collimated measurand. The mathematical models and practical calibration methods for measurement are elaborated. The preliminary experimental results agree with the methods currently being used for orientation and position measurement. The measuring method provides an alternative choice for the metrology in precision assembly.
