Abstract:Hemodynamic parameters based on the blood flow velocity profile (BFVP) is used to obtain diagnosis information for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Coherent compound Doppler can achieve the BFVP measurement at high spatio-temporal sampling rate. However, there exists a compromise between the spatial and temporal sampling rates in this technique. We propose the reuse of an adjacent plane-wave for three-angle coherent compound (RAPC) to increase the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) (temporal sampling rate) without losing the spatial sampling rate. This method repeatedly transmits the sequence of plane waves with four inclination angles of to scan blood flows. Then, three successive receiving echo signals with inclination angles of or are grouped by reusing the last adjacent signal, and processed with the motion compensation to coherently compound Doppler signals, respectively. Compared with the traditional three-angle plane-wave compounding (TTPC) without the plane-wave reusing scheme, the RAPC-based PRF is advanced 1.5 times. In the simulation with the blood flow peak velocity of 0.6 m/s, the normalized root mean square error in RAPC-based results is 8.2% lower than that in the TTPC-based results. In conclusion, the proposed RAPC improves the Doppler-based BFVP measurement performance, which is hopeful to provide more accurate diagnosis information for related diseases in clinic.
