Abstract:Pyrometallurgy to collect crystalline arsenic trioxide is one of the most promising strategies to cut off the environmental risk of arsenic, while it is still difficult to realize the in-situ release and effective collection of arsenic trioxide in nonferrous metallurgy flue gas. Here the formation process of particulate arsenic was clarified, and the inlet sulfur dioxide and oxygen presented important effects on arsenic concentration and toxicity of the formed particulate arsenic. Moreover, we first proposed using pyrite as vulcanizing additive to promote the insitu dissociation of particulate arsenic. The dissociation of particulate arsenic consisted of two-stepwise stages. First, zinc arsenate was transformed into zinc arsenite and zinc sulfide without the release of arsenic. Next, zinc arsenite was decomposed to zinc sulfide and arsenic trioxide, realizing the in-situ dissociation. Compared with the traditional vulcanization technology, pyrite was further exploited for its complete oxidation to provide all the sulfur. This study provides a facile and sustainable way for cleaning treatment of particulate arsenic in nonferrous metallurgy flue gas.
