A Discussion on Theory, Method and Others in Humanistic Study

Abstract:The humanistic study involves many different aspects in terms of methodology. As a matter of fact, any method of world interpretation and understanding, in the course of its application on research domain, is supposed to be transformed into the method of world study, concerning the relationship between theory and method. With regard to the relationship between thought and reality, the humanistic study should not only be grounded on reality, but also focus on the understanding and inter-pretation of reality, the imbalance of which will inevitably result in the failure of impartiality. The relationship between the posi-tive and the speculative, which is closely related to the thought and existence, is expected to be taken into consideration, no matter it is applied in either the humanistic or social science domain, or it is an observation of the outer world of an understand-ing of the thinking phenomenon. From the perspective of more internal aspect, the positive and the speculative involve different observation domain, the latter of which manifests itself in a more specific form of intellectual thinking and dialectical thinking in terms of methodology. Indeed, intellectual thinking and dialectical thinking are of their significance in the process of world, so-ciety and culture understanding. Furthermore, when doing humanistic study, we should not only stress the disclosure of logic pattern and sequence, refraining from displaying thought development in a form of phenomenon mixture, but also focus on the complexity and diversity of thought itself, so as to make it more rich and concrete. Therefore, it is proposed in this paper that any humanistic study should embody the vision of“learning without the distinction between China and the West”, which means that it is of great importance to go beyond the confrontation between China and the West, and develop a worldwide vision in a broader sense.
